A friend recommended this place because she really likes the carrot cake. So I thought, let me give it a try. This is an in and out unless I overlooked gseating arrangements, so dressed or casual will fit. I noticed one side is a Jamaican restaurant serving traditional dishes and the other side is a bakery. I also noticed that there where 4 workers in the bakery, one worker was helping a customer, a second taking pictures of the product, a third singing and walking around, and a fourth was putting pastries out. NO ONE acknowledged me or any other person that came in after me. I guess the assumptions are that the customer doesn't have a choice, so they have a definite sale. The gentleman finally finished and waited on me. The cake I chose was vanilla with white icing and red.(Pictured) The cake was very delicious and semi sweet weighing more on the less sweet side. The improvements needed are, greeting your customers or potential customers when they come in. Even if the worker has no intention of servicing the customer. Just another day! OB's Bakery and Restaurant - Birthday cake - Bakeries Near Me - Jamaica, New York

Our family always pick up cakes from OB's for special occasions. This time we needed to order a custom cake for our mom's 80th birthday party. I gave 4 stars due to the beginning communication. It took about two weeks to get in contact with someone to order and finalized. In the event planning business that's unacceptable. Nonetheless, the order was finalized and upon delivery we were are all very pleasantly surprised and happy at the outcome. Pictured is the cake inspiration pic, what was delivered and lastly the final cake after our florist decorated the cake for us. OB's bakery management, we want to continue to support your business for our cake needs, but we just need better communication from your staff. Thanks again for the beautiful cake read more

The Definition of a Hidden Gem Near JFK I'm writing this specifically about the restaurant side of OB's. I was on a work assignment at JFK Airport, and this quickly became my absolute go-to for Caribbean food--I've eaten here for lunch and dinner more times than I can count. If you're looking for a fancy sit-down spot, keep moving; there is no ambiance to speak of as it's strictly take-out. But if you're looking for authentic, high-quality food, this is the place. Here is why OB's is a standout: The Consistency: I've had nearly everything on the menu at this point, and I have yet to be disappointed. The quality is hit out of the park every single time. The Portions: They are amazingly large. You definitely get your money's worth here. The Staff: The folks behind the counter are always friendly and welcoming, which makes a difference when you're grabbing a quick meal. The Price: In a city where everything is getting expensive, their pricing is absolutely spot on. I love the food here so much that even though I don't live in the area, I've frequently made the 30-minute plus drive just to pick up dinner. It's that good. read more

I went here for the first time today after always hearing good reviews. The place had a line but it moved fairly quickly. There was a variety of foods available to try including oxtail, jerk chicken, fish, curry chicken, stew chicken, etc. I tried the oxtail which was good. A small oxtail was $20, which seems a bit pricey. The jerk chicken was also good and had a nice spice to it. A small jerk chicken dinner was $8. For oxtail gravy it is an extra 75 cent. But the customer service was horrible. Both employees were rolling their eyes and obviously impatient when a customer had a question or was indecisive. I had to ask one of the employees what her attitude was for after she had to repeat her question because I didn't hear her the first time. If it wasn't for the rude attitudes of employees, they could have received 5 stars. read more

I ordered cup cake 2 week before pick up as I come for payment to my surprise cupcakes $72 24 all chocolate blue and white priced at $3 a cupcake I asked to talk to manager as I wait 30 minutes he never comes out from the back as I stand quite waiting he call police to stand beside me all I requested is to talk to him at this given time 4:01 7/3/26 I stand quite waiting and still he never comes out the best part about it is as I read the review the cake is no longer good and that was the only thing giving the life because the food been off nasty and old. its a good thing I not buy but this place and their overpriced bad service TIME TO CLOSE DOWN. read more

DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM. I ordered a birthday cake from them and it was horrible. It was not ready by pick up time. The icing, frosting and lettering was completely wrong on the cake. When they went back to fix it , they just scraped off the icing and just wrote letters. They misspelled the name wrong on the cake for the second time. When they scraped off the frosting, instead of fixing the cake by adding more frosting, they left it bare, so parts of the cake had no frosting on it. Customer service was horrible and lazy. I would never order anything from them again. I advise everyone to stay away from this place. They are not worth the money. read more

Myself and my family have been coming here for years and NEVER have I experienced the disrespect and discomfort I experienced today. The chubby dark skinned Jamaican girl with the plastic lashes has the most disgusting attitude ever. I asked to ADD to my order and she had an attitude...shouldn't it be the opposite?! The girl is in her 20s disrespecting her elders in a traditional Jamaican spot?? How?! read more

I came to bakery it was good the cakes are good but OB restaurant the prices went up on the food for 22 or more dollars you don't get your money worth no more the oxtails didn't have really no meat on the bone they was small they give you a lot of rice and really no meat I came here plenty of times the prices got expensive but you don't get that much meat you don't get your money worth read more

They have to have a different chef or change the recipe bc I found the food to be a little on the bland side. Other than that I have been here countless time since I moved in the area 7 years ago. They serve food buffet style and it's pretty good. Sometimes it's a long line and they have a very decent selection of Jamaican food. I go there for porridge sometimes and sometimes soup. Today I got curry shrimp and soup and a ginger bear and a fruit punch from tropical rhythm. Their prices sometimes I think is high but I literally walked from the Door to her and chose here over the Door definitely better price points. Added bonus is that they're a bakery so they have cake. Their cake is good. read more

A family friend recommended this place to me. For me, I love Rasta Pasta and I haven't had it in a while, so as soon as I saw this place sells Rasta Pasta, had to try it. From the workers to the food to the atmosphere it was great. The workers were exceptional and the food was amazing. I of course had to order their Rasta Pasta and I loved it. It was so creamy and had the perfect consistency. I also ordered their oxtail and it was very good. While eating the oxtail, it easily fell off the bone which is what I love. This place has a variety of foods to choose from. I was having a hard time choosing what I wanted. I will definitely come back to try the rest of the food. This is a place you have to try if you love yourself some good Jamaican food. read more

This restaurant and bakery is a staple in Rochdale Village mall. The food is always fresh and delicious. There is a always a long line to purchase food. You cannot go wrong with anything you decide to buy. I always buy the red snapper, jerk chicken, jerk salmon.. The jerk pork is foodgasm in your mouth. The prices are reasonable and affordable. Definitely a must try if ever in the area. read more

This is the worst Jamaican restaurant in Queens. All their food tastes old like it's been sitting for days. And the servers are always rude with a nasty attitude. I will never be going here again. read more

Haven't been here in years, but remember the fish a little more expensive so when I asked the young man how much$ he said $14 . I said Okay. The pay line was longer than the order line . I shoulda known that spelled trouble! The lady ringing up was slow as hell. When it was finally my turn she rings 18+ tax I told her the guy said $14 she said who? I pointed she said he's New he wouldn't know. U would think she was new as long as it took her to ring the 5 people a head of me. She said it was on the flashing Menu board but it was NOT. I didn't feel Like arguing so I paid. The cabbage was filled with water the bag was leaking. I had to drain the water before eating. The fish was Ok. But I won't be back. UmmExcept maybe for the black cake in the Bakery area holiday time. read more

I have been a loyal customer since the bakery only days. The consistency is nonexistent, I brought a large oxtail, there was no gravy on the dry rice,my cabbage raw,my oxtail undercooked, and I only had five oxtail on the plate. I would rather go to the door after my last experience. read more

This place is ok with me. Let me say 1st that I overlooked this place because I am petrified of "mall food" because I am afraid of food poisoning which almost claimed my life. Anyway, a a friend recommended it and I tried breakfast 1st. Compared to The Door the portions are slightly smaller and about $2 cheaper. I had codfish and fry dumplings with bananas and it was delish. Next time I had escovitch fish and spinach rice, so so so good. On this my 3rd visit I got food for my daughter and myself. Just for comparisons sake we switched up. I got Jerk chicken rice and peas and she got yellow rice. Both of us liked our chicken except for me they don't have a real Jerk sauce and they really didn't have enough spice in it. To me I would stick with The Doors Jerk chicken. The yellow rice was much fresher than the rice and peas. I added a slice of the toasted coconut pineapple cake, two of my favorite things. it was good but I couldn't eat thr filling, way too sweet. I would visit again and sample other things. read more

I was in the mall at the Western Union and my cousin said she smells oxtails. She followed her nose and found this restaurant with a line of patient customers waiting to be served. The staff was so friendly and fast. Everything looked delicious. But we wanted oxtail. Well, we were not disappointed, it was proper Oxtails. So delicious. The rice and peas was fluffy and the cabbage was fresh and nice. We really liked the food! read more

Always tasty. Love the bake goods. We ordered a few Xmas cakes and they were so moist and tasty.

I venture out there just to get a half pound to a pound of their Sweet Chili Chicken. It's worth it trust me. I also enjoy their plantains. Best curry goat in New York State. I literally mean that!!. The rest of the food sell off!!! There is no other Jamaican restaurant right now competing with these guys. I tried the door, Sally's, OG's, smokehouse, Jamaican flavors etc etc. they can't stack up to this place. The food is fresh and hot. They have so many mouthwatering dishes. I strongly recommend a visit to this place. It's queens best kept secret. This level of cooking in a shopping mall. Big big big UP! Way UP to OB's I don't know why they don't have a page for the restaurant. This is definitely a Round trip spot!. Happy eating folks! read more

This place can do no wrong. You know those places that the food is so good that you ignore the wait in line and the short tempers of the wait staff because you know when you finally get your food it'll be so right! That's this place in a nutshell, you can't make a bad selection here. Jerk chicken? Flawless. Red snapper escoveitch with spinach rice? Flawless. Curry chicken and bake with sweet plantains? You get my drift- Everything is always good. I bet the napkins taste good. No complaints ever. read more

3 stars is being generous, this is the only restaurant without a menu posted, you basically point at what you want, and they charge you whatever they want. They have a large variety of food too choose from, which looks good but looks better then it taste. I ordered fried chicken dinner with white rice and salad. The chicken had more breading then meat, and cut into Undistinguished parts. Ordered a festival (Fried dough) $1. Was hard as a rock, and was uneatable. I've seen a team of rochdale maintaince go over look at the food, and turn away. Minutes later I see them ordering from key food hot food section, smh LoL. Costumer service has always been BAD, for the last 20 years, and that's what makes the food BAD. read more

The food tastes OK and the portions are OK. What bothers me is the pricing (not the cost). I pass this place at least twice a week. They have a new electronic price board. For months, they had nothing, not even a flyer, and the prices seemed to change every day depending on who the cashier was. Now they have the price board with the prices, but they don't charge those prices. Oh no! They charge much more, but you don't know this until you reach the cashier, after you have ordered the food. The price on the electronic board for my red snapper dinner was $13, but the cashier said that with the tax, it was $17.42. Really? $4.42 in tax? I knew that wasn't right. It should have been $14.13. When I questioned why I was not being charged the price on the board, I was told "the price on the board not right." Other customers were complaining as well. $9.00 items were coming up at $13.04. Some people walked away, some made their order smaller, but most grumbled and paid the higher price because they had already been standing in line a long time to order. Beware of the pricing. No matter how good the food might taste, posting wrong prices on a new price board is not right. Seems like a bait-and-switch. It's not like you're getting sit-down service. This is take-out. They need to be honest about the cost of their food. read more

OB's is the best place to go for a hearty meal after school, work, or on the go! With an array of Caribbean cuisine, you are bound to try something new from their menu items on each return. The buffet style presentation is appealing to the eye and allows you to see the exact food you want to eat, as opposed to blindly ordering from a traditional menu. The food always has an abundance of flavor, and they are never stingy with the serving size. I'm a veryyyy regular customer! The only room for improvement would be the speed of service. Wait times vary, but more often than not it takes quite a while to make your full order/pay round. They try their best, but maybe more hands should be on deck as far as serving? read more

Gd day first I have to start with i love your pastries. I am of Carribean accent an they are hard to find. I traveled from Staten island to the bakery yesterday. I stood on the line over 10 minutes. Only fo a person who was paying for a Cake to be able to skip the line. You need to have two lines if this is how it goes. People buying already baked goods should not be treated any less. Thanks, I truly dont think i will return. I should not be treated less because I was not buying a birthday cake. read more

All my years of going to Rochdale mall for numerous amounts of errands and purchases. I never stop at this hidden gem because I am very skeptical bout mall food. I heard they have wonderful bake goods and custom cakes. Today I decided i give it a try since I was in the area and wanted some Caribbean food. As I joined a line there were two workers very helpful , prompt and friendly. I asked the worker if they had sweet chili shrimp she gone to the back and told me it'll be out in15 min which i had no problem waiting. Everything on the steam table was fresh and presentable. I got tempted by so many items while i was waiting. Every two mins a different meat was coming out smelling like heaven lol. I never order fish outside unless it's shrimp. But when the chef brought out the salmon and I saw the glaze sauce my mouth started to water. I couldn't wait no longer so I decided to go with the sweet chili salmon. I spent 17.00 on a drink and meal. For the price you pay it's def worth every dollar. you get a huge portion of salmon. Along with the sweet chili salmon I got yellow rice and sweet plantains. I opted out on the veggies which was cabbage since i had mixed veggies in the yellow rice. The sweet chili sauce was not to sweet nor spicy and it was a perfect consistency in the gravy. I love how lightly fried the salmon was to give it a little crisp texture then top of with sauce. When i got to work i saw how much food i got i was very impressive. Could've split the meal with 2/3 people to be honest and that's a plus in my books. The foil pan look like it was a large. Don't be afraid to try this mall food. You will not I repeat be disappointed. They have delivery and on uber eats. read more

I hate this place - that being said.. they have pretty good cakes.. and Jamaica is not exactly known for its vast array of bakeries. I came here to pick up a cake for a co-workers birthday.. it's inside of a really shady looking "mall" in Jamaica. I came in and was completely ignored by the staff. When I asked questions about the cakes I got lots o' 'tude. I asked what was in 2 cakes and you would have thought I was a bitch with a gluten allergy in panera. Finally, I chose a red velvet cake, she boxed it up, tied it up with a string (with a lot of puffing might I add). I then remembered that I needed the cake written on (just a simple 'happy birthday') so I apologized, with a smile, and asked her if she could write on the cake. She said no and continued to argue with me that she couldn't write on the cake because she already tied it up (it's a piece of string - come on). Arguing ensued, I took my cake and left, vowing to never go back. The cake was actually pretty good - hence the 2 stars. Don't go here if you aren't into major 'tude and mild to moderate verbal abuse. read more
