The Mexican food is OK; Service was lacking...had to call waiter twice for some needed service; $4 tea prices are ridiculous.

Typical Mexican restaurant. Food is well prepared and service was good. The botana plate was great. More food than one person could eat.

You can often hear the cook chopping up the meat through the little door leading to the kitchen. They offer Mexican style tacos in double wrapped soft corn tortillas. Non of that taco bell style hard shell that many Americans associate with Mexican tacos. The fillings are fajita, ground beef, or chopped grilled steak. If you ask for them with everything, they also put cilantro and grilled onions on them, unless you ask for them to go, then those toppings are inside your little foil packet of tacos, but on the side. The order of tacos comes with 6 small tacos and a small cup of charro beans. Charro beans is basically like a pinto bean soup in a rich broth with veggies and some bacon and pork rinds. Absolutely delicious. The portion at this location is way too small in my opinion. Beans are cheap and they could afford to give people more. They also serve mexican lonches (sandwiches) with fajita or bistek. You get 4 little sandwiches in an order for $5. A little over priced, but they are somewhat hard to find and this is the only location in Elsa that has them as far as I know. Get 2 orders or add beans and a baked potato if you are really hungry because they are small. These sandwiches don't come with a cup of beans if you take them to go, but they will give some to you if you dine in. They come with a slice of avocado, shredded cabbage and tomato along with some green and red salsa on the side. The lonches are not overly greasy and that is slightly good except that it might be the reason they are not as tasty as the ones from across the border. Don't bother with the taco pirata at all!! It is just a big overly cheesy bland quesadilla with added meat, sourcream, avocado and onions. I didn't enjoy it at all! Very, very bland. The Panchos are very much worth a try. Basically loaded nachos with refried beans, steak and lettuce, tomato and sour cream. Very tasty! They also have imported Mexican sodas in the bottle for those wishing to satisfy a craving.

Never again. The order was wrong and the food wasn't good. The food was over salted and we didn't…read moreget enough sides.

It is a locally owned and operated coffee shop and restaurant serving specialty coffees, teas, refreshers, and sporting a nice menu with sandwiches, soups, great breakfasts, and some Mexican favorites. I decided I wanted to try their chilaquiles. I was trying to choose between red and green salsa, and the server suggested I could get half and half. So that's what I ordered, to be topped with an egg. She asked how I wanted the egg, to which I replied, "over medium" (whites done, yolks still mostly runny). To drink, I ordered sweet iced tea because they told me it was fresh brewed. The iced tea was old and cloudy. I could barely drink it. The chilaquiles were delicious, but the egg was very much well done. The egg was not that big a deal to me, but a coffee and tea shop ought to know that when iced tea gets cloudy, it has gone bad. Update: I found out their iced tea is not meant to be a Southern style American iced tea, but some kind of a Japanese presentation that the owner says is supposed to look cloudy... So that answers that; It's just not what I thought I was ordering. I wasn't going to say anything, but Siomara came to the table and asked how I was enjoying my meal.so I told her about the undrinkable iced tea. She immediately apologized and offered me a replacement drink. She also offered me a goodie from the dessert bar to make up for the overcooked egg. I chose to just get a replacement drink. I think the staff at Betuzas cares about their customers. They seem to do so many things well; the chilaquiles were great (bothe the red and the green). I would go again. I will just order a fruit refresher instead of their iced tea.

The two dishes I've had are important ones though (menudo and enchiladas), so I can say this place gets 2 thumbs up. Most of us locals remember this place as a gas station throughout the years. Someone finally decided to give this spot a repurposing into the town's favorite type of establishment, which is of course, a restaurant. Let's see if this one can last! It is supposed to be a seafood and Mexican spot, but I would just call it Mexican with some seafood. The food is no frills. It is however, full of flavor! I ordered the menudo for pick-up one Sunday and it was on point! $8 for a quart that is big enough for 2. Comes with all the fixings. My mom and I approved and will have it again. On another visit my friend and I tried the enchiladas special for $6.50. Soooo worth it. I would buy this plate at the regular price of $8, but on Wednesday's you won't have to. I had been craving a shrimp cocktail and tried a medium. I won't try it again. :( The shrimp are too big and the sauce is lacking some spice and definitely heat. Presentation was nice, but that was a waist of $10. Shame, since they try to pass themselves off as a seafood place. The place is nothing to brag about inside. The old coolers are now covered with pics of fish and I like it because I'm corny. :) I look forward to trying their other specials and maybe even some of the other fried seafood on the menu. Those big shrimp have to be better battered and fried. ;)
