Constant delays, miscommunications, work was not up to code, and workers literally peed on our…read morehouse. Do yourself a favour and avoid this company at all costs. During the quote process they told us what they thought we wanted to hear which completely changed the scope of our project right after digging the first pits. Then at the end of it the work was not up to code and failed inspection. Finally, when we had leaks the following year, they wanted us to cut out the walls of our finished basement before any other diagnostic or work would be done. If we wanted to go that route we would have used a company that repairs foundations from the interior, which would have been cheaper anyway. Our main issues and the company's way of addressing them were: - Project changes were not communicated from head office to the workers and part of our walkway was wrongly destroyed - Shield did not charge us for the digging but did no patching to fix the damage - We requested they let us know when they would be doing interior work, they gave no warning - General apology - No poly was hung and no dust mitigation was used for the first day of indoor jackhammering in our finished basement - General apology - Ignored our input regarding the location of the sump, causing them to jackhammer a main branch of our furnace duct - General apology - Did not measure interior vs exterior distances correctly when drilling the foundation for the sump outlet - General apology - When poly was finally hung they completely blocked off the door to our bedroom unnecessarily - General apology - Blocked our garage/driveway without communication when there was plenty of street parking available, did not move even after we asked them multiple times - General apology each time the issue was raised - Wood access hatch was used even though the quote stated metal would be used - They eventually replaced it after much back-and-forth - Workers used the side of our house (front yard, right beside a window) as a urinal - Lack of accountability, general non-apology, statement of "working on a site is hard" - Worker special needs were vaguely blamed but no accountability or desire to improve was expressed by the supervisor. Sloughed off as "just a one-off" and every apology was followed by a "but" - Sump was not connected or tested before the workers left - Workers returned and addressed these concerns - Sump was not installed according to code, had no ticketed plumber attached to the work, and could not be permitted. Lid was not airtight and outlet was missing the required check valve - It took multiple calls and conversations with Shield, including the owner, wherein we were given completely false information and told that retrofits don't need to meet code requirements, before they finally brought it up to code - Work was completed in the fall of 2025 and the "Spring Top-up" where they backfill holes that have settled did not begin until September 2026 - It took months of emails before they finally came. Staff constantly blamed being overwhelmed due to the record rainfall, but no one is forcing them to take on so much new work that they overwhelm their staff and force their other projects suffer. Shield, if you're reading this, do better.

First let me start with the owners Dennis and Rocky - sons of the founder (George). These guys were raised right. They really understand the value of customer service. When I called and spoke to their very friendly office receptionist, both brothers (owners) were at my door within a few hours. They quickly assessed my drainage situation, and were very fair when it came to pricing. But their service goes a lot further than a good price. Great communication skills. I really liked these guys, and I was completely upfront with them regarding the challenges of my job/drainage project. You see, I had just laid a bunch of new concrete next to the house, and I didn't want that tampered with. Not only that, his guys would have to hand dig around a gas line I had running to my garage. I think they appreciated my candour. Rather than trying to hit me up for extra cash, or make a big deal about the situation, they quickly assessed all of the challenges I was throwing at them and calmly explained how they intended to overcome them. We were off to a great start. They suggested we get started the next week, and all of the paper work and permits were quickly put in place, without me having to lift a finger. These guys run a VERY professional operation. When the site foreman, Rick, showed up the day of the job I was even more reassured I had made the right choice going with George's ditching. This guy was truly awesome. Very skilled with a backhoe, and he treated my property with the same level of respect as if he was working on his own house. Every now and then, I would ask the 3-4 guys working on my sewer line replacement a question, and they were all very respectful and happy to answer any questions or concerns I had. Now here's the best part. THESE GUYS ARE INCREDIBLY EFFICIENT! I can't stress how impressed I was with how quickly they were able to locate and replace my new sewer line. They had anticipated that it was a two day job, but they were completely done within 7 hours - all in less than one day. And that's with all my nit-picky requirements! If you're not familiar with the "new" latest technique they use to replace a sewer line, I'll provide you a brief primer on what I learned/discovered. First of all, they no longer have to dig a deep trench across your entire yard. Really! They just dig a small (3'X3' hole) on either end and use a hydraulic system to insert a new strong PVC replacement. Owners Dennis and Rocky even brought a sample with them on their first visit. I digress, anyhow back to Rick the site foreman. Rick was extremely talented with how to strategically dig the required holes to meet my requirements, and do as little damage as possible to my landscaping. Then after the pipe was replaced they took great care to return the clay/dirt, and packed it down well. When they were all done, Rick went over sweeping up my new concrete with a broom. How's that for a complete job. I only wish there was a way to give these guys a 6/5. I have no hesitation to highly recommend them for any ditching/sewer line job. Good people.

After almost an hour we had dealt with the garbage and Matt had his team sweep out our garage, ensuring it was clean. Our neighbour noticed the truck and asked if she could dispose of an old bbq. With a few seconds of negotiation, the bbq was loaded up and gone. Great service, high standard of quality and careful attention to the disposal of old fluorescent tubes.

ESPECIALLY when my smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector started going off! Not knowing if I'd slowly die of carbon monoxide poisoning was scary-- especially on the coldest day of the year so far! Fortunately, the lady I spoke to at Acclaimed reassured me that what was going off WASN'T the carbon monoxide detector (once I gave her more details). They couldn't get anyone over here any sooner, but she did refer me to some other businesses to see if anyone else had availability any sooner. For the peace of mind she gave me in the middle of chaos (with the detector blaring in the background), I will give them a fantastic rating. It was SO appreciated!

Our heat pump wasn't functioning, and because of the reviews on YELP we asked them to send out a…read moreservice technician. The communication beforehand was excellent. The technician arrived on time, was courteous, professional and seemed to be competent. After about 30-45 minutes he told us that we needed to replace the heat pump and that it could not be repaired. We paid the service fee of about $200 and asked that they send out someone who could give us a estimate to replace the heat pump. 2 days later another technician came out, and gave us an estimate. Again, he was on time, courteous, professional and friendly. I mentioned the need to replace the heat pump to a friend who lives in our building. He mentioned another company and so we called them to get an estimate on replace the heat pump. They came out, and looked at it, asked some questions, did some maintenance and the heat pump is working! No replacement needed! Getting this 2nd opinion saved us literally thousands of $. We are so grateful for the other company and will probably not call Acclaimed! again for a repair - since either their technicians are not competent, or they tried to sell us something we didn't need. After I posted this review, the owner of the company apologized for the misdiagnosis and offered to refund the initial service fee. He was very polite, listening and we had a good conversation. He handled this with grace and so much better than other owners. I'll raise my rating to a 2 from a 1 because of this call. It was appreciated.
