Quail Hollow Farm is a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) located in the Moapa Valley. They…read moregrow organic, sustainably-raised vegetables (well, I guess as sustainable as you can get in a freaking desert, but whatever) that are DELICIOUS! I will rave about specific items later, but just know that you'll be getting some quality stuff... if you can get in! I signed up the first season that shares were available, but now there is a waiting list to get in... the word is out! You buy a "share" of the harvest for each season (or for the entire year) up front, then each week you receive a basket of veggies, herbs, and sometimes fruit or flowers. It ends up costing about $40/week, including the delivery charge. You can pick your veggies up at the farm or at one of several locations around town (I get mine at Rainbow's End, which is very convenient for me). They have special events at the farm, such as an heirloom tomato tasting or a potluck for shareholders to meet and mingle. The farm also sells eggs and honey and chickens and turkeys for Thanksgiving, if you're into the meat. They will also let you play with the baby goats and rabbits if you visit if you're more into the cuddling! For a fall share, expect lots of squashes and pumpkins and melons. The most amazing cantaloupe! Winter brings lots of leafy greens and broccoli (also, best broc!), and spring and summer have beets, the tastiest carrots I have ever nibbled upon, heirloom tomatoes, and onions (can you tell that I'm writing this in the middle of the spring/summer share that is fresh in my mind?). I got some artichokes once, a kohlrabi, lots of sweet crunchy spinach, arugula, mizuna, chiogga beets, garlic, chamomile, sunflowers, and cilantro/parsley/marjoram, just to add on.... Seriously, put your name on the list now, and hope you get a spot ASAP!

Hoping to share the benefits of fresh locally grown produce with my mom, who still lives in Vegas, I searched the internet (thanks, Yelp forums!) and was pleasantly surprised to discover a family-owned farm in Moapa which offered that and more. Since 2010, my mom has been a Meadow Valley shareholder. The shares are split into seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, and range from 8 to 14 weeks long. When we first signed up, a weekly box per season was the only option, but now they offer a Half Share (every other week), and a choice between a Standard Share (the vegetables in your basket are preselected) or a Premium Share (customize your basket online the previous week). You can pick up your basket directly from the farm, but they will also deliver to the Las Vegas, Henderson, and Mesquite areas for a small fee. Their prices are incredibly reasonable and the product far surpasses what you can get from a grocery store. Obviously, the harvest varies by season. Still, after two years, my mom never fails to comment about how the fresh carrots or kale or beets or squash or (feel free to substitute your pick of produce here) are bursting with flavor. I never would have imagined that such an abundance of greens, veggies, and fruit could come from Moapa. Not only that, but they offer an Egg Share option, and sometimes have honey or bread. It's not uncommon for herbs or flowers to pop up, either. I have to make special note about the quality of customer service offered by the owners, Lyndy and Bryce. My mom isn't internet-savvy, so I handle everything from my end, and how I "signed" her up to be a shareholder was complicated because of the circumstances. It didn't show from their end, though; they were happy to accomodate us and have always been quick with responding via e-mail. They even called her to make sure her first delivery was on par. My mom is picky and unafraid to be vocal about it, but Meadow Valley has far surpassed both her and my expectations. I'm happy to support both their business and their principles. In the spirit of "community", they even support other local CSAs -- trust me, Las Vegans, if you haven't experienced what's akin to a farmer's market delivered to your door, you don't know what you're missing out on. Anyone looking for fresh, local, quality produce in the LV metro area should absolutely give Meadow Valley a try. Yes, you can join a CSA even if you live in a desert!

I have to tell the cucumbers I buy from Bryce & Lyndy are fantastic, as well other vegetable fresh chicken and eggs. We also find there honey, fresh bread, nuts, and more. I recommend my clients to go and hold fresh produce. I am an Esthetician who likes very much natural products to eat and for my services, specially for masks, lotions and more, I have my Spa close to the market so it is convenient to go between clients or before I open. When I entered there were lots of cute kitties lounging about, and a market where they sell produce they grow and baked/canned goods. If you continue to the left there is an area with seating that is not to busy and you can eat food and hang out and chat. If you want to see the animals you pay admission and they give you some stuff you can feed the animals. The area with the animals was fun lots of piggies, goats, horses, tortoises, turtles, birds, sheep large bulls even! We never managed to find the rabbits, and there were some areas that were closed off when we went. There were some cute spots for good photos and my son had a blast. The market I had gotten some baked goods like zucchini chocolate chip bread, ooey gooey butter bar, and a lemon bar. Honestly I had higher hopes. The zucchini bread was pretty dry and didnt have shredded zucchini like I hoped, the base for the bars was not my favorite. And the lemon topping was not to my liking. I havent opened the pickles I got yet so cant judge those. I think ill stick to just buying produce next time. However the space overall its a fun experience and I'm glad I went.
