In particular it makes me have some orthopedic issues. Dr Humeniuk was recommended by my geneticist. He listens better than 98% of doctors I have met. He is incredibly thorough. His office staff is caring and they seem quite happy working there. I appreciate all the extra time he spends with me because his insights have been invaluable in understanding the big picture of what I have going on. He's even given me some great ideas for non-surgical interventions and not-orthopedic issues (such as doctors to see and things to talk to my other current specialists about). I belong to an online support group for people with my chronic genetic condition. In that group we have what we call "the good Dr list". I suggested adding him to it recently and when I did, at least a dozen other members piped up to say that they see him and that he is phenomenal. One of them called him "the unicorn" of doctors. We usually talk pretty frankly about bad experiences and we rarely all agree on an overall good experience with a doctor. There's almost always someone who has had a poor experience in our group, but no one had with Dr. Humeniuk. That says a ton about his focus on his patients, especially considering we are people who see a lot of different doctors. I appreciate his commitment to my health and helping me see and understand my own health from his perspective. His staff is kind and happy and I can see that he treats them very well. Sometimes you do wait a short while to see him (15-25 minutes). I've had specialists who expect me to wait 4 hours or more, so that's nothing to me. I suppose if you expect to be seen exactly at your appointment time, try someone else but that's not something that bothers me. His skill and willingness to listen and help me understand more than makes up for any short wait.

I had a recent MRI which showed severe arthritis but he looked at it more closely and realized my pain was something else and I was pain free within 2 days. He also took the time to listen to all my complaints and ran some blood tests and discovered an illness that no other doctor has been able to find. It would have been easy for him to just see the MRI results and move on, but because he did not I am finally able to have answers for all my chronic issues. I will be forever grateful for him. If I could give Dr Freeland and their staff a zero I would. I think Dr Freeland is knowledgeable…read morebut it's what she did to me financially that is inexcusable. 1st Appt: goes well but she tells me it is $1500 ($500 per treatment) for laser for toenail fungus. Pricey but perhaps that's what I needed. But then she tells me ..hey why don't we get a simple lab test to determine if it's really a fungus before you're spend that kind of money. ok... sounds reasonable. They take the sample and I get told they'll follow-up once the lab tests come back....here's where it goes downhill. - A month passes and now one calls me. - Then the lab sends me a bill for $1300+!!! I called their office and said hey...what's with this and why haven't I been called for the lab results. So we schedule the f/u visit. - Dr Freeland says good news ..simple fungal treatment and no laser really necessary. Prescription is $150 a pop...but at least it's not laser. - show her the lab bill...she agrees that it's looks to be way too much and her staff would look into it. - two weeks go by...I call back to her staff...they claim they will talk to Dr Freeland. Still no call back. - call again and now they tell me they don't handle this and call their main office for billing. - billing says they don't handle it and there's no way they will help with the bill - billing says they will talk to Dr Freeland about perhaps relief for forgoing the Dr visit costs - weeks of calls...still nothing It seems the business could care less about the financial burden they put onto me without a single call from anybody much less Dr Freeland...just constantly stating that "we aren't responsible for what the lab charges"...and apparently they aren't responsible for recommending a very costly test that could have done in a local clinic for $50. Whatever you do...don't allow them to order tests...you will pay for their carelessness .

Dr. Hotchkiss made a few recommendations and eventually recommended a lumbar fusion. I had a lot of questions. Where many doctors don't spend the time to answer every single question...he did. I even brought my family with so they could understand what I was going to go through and my recovery. He answered questions from my 8 year old son. I am now pain free and able to do so much more. I would recommend him and the entire team there to anyone with orthopedic issues. They are fantastic! Special mention also goes to Kathy in scheduling for always being upbeat and very helpful with working around calendars. This place is the best!

He and his staff will stress-test your willingness to understand and participate in one of the most significant medical events of your life. He listens. He explains. He repeats himself. He expects questions. And he expects you to understand not only what he recommends, but why. Dr. Salinas has a rare gift: You are his responsibility. That distinction is why I would choose him again. I showed up with an old MRI. My primary doctor said it showed substantial degeneration at L4-L5 and I need a neurosurgeon to look at this. I eventually went to see him. What I did not get from Dr. Salinas was a quick look at the films followed by, "Yes, there's the problem. When would you like to schedule surgery?" He looked deeper, found S1 nerve damage. Then, he listened. My family's experience with spine surgery began in 1961, when my mother underwent surgery to remove a spinal tumor and was left paralyzed from the waist down. I wasn't afraid of doctors, but I possessed a lifetime of respect for what can happen when someone operates near the spinal cord. Avoid at all costs was my mantra. Dr. Salinas insisted on conservative options first--physical therapy, injections, and time. Surgery came only after those avenues had been exhausted and the clinical evidence pointed squarely there. Then some important things happened after the operation: his relentless communication. He repeats important instructions. His staff prepares me thoroughly. Questions get answered. Details get revisited. Before surgery, that seemed excessive. During recovery, when you are tired, medicated, and trying to remember a dozen protocols at once, you discover exactly why he does it. Then, I couldn't believe what happened next. On the third day after surgery, I contacted his answering service about a possible complication. Dr. Salinas was out of the country at the time. Yet, it was Dr. Salinas who responded directly to me with an answer--not a weekend on-call doctor. The next day, another issue developed. The hospital's discharge instructions conflicted with his specific protocol. He answered my texts directly, then bypassed messaging entirely and called me, considering the matter too important for text. His message was uncompromising: Nurses, PAs, MAs, and other hospital staff may participate in my care, but he alone is responsible for my health and recovery. I was to follow his instructions. That rare gift. Dr. Salinas brings more than elite surgical skill--though his educational pedigree is impressive. He brings something rarer to the operating room: judgment before surgery, fierce ownership afterward, and a refusal to delegate his accountability in between. Since I first reached out after surgery, he has called me daily, sometimes twice. It is still a work in progress. He's repeated that many times. I was diagnosed with phlebitis in my left leg post op a total right knee replacement by Dr…read more Toulson. I called to make appt with Dr. Toulson but he couldn't see me that week and told me he had me set up to see Dr McKeller, his partner. I needed a medical clearance so I could resume physical therapy. Dr McKeller kept assessing at my rt leg and both the assistant and I kept telling him my phlebitis was in the LEFT leg. He then ordered an xray of my rt knee and said my knee looked great and discharged me. I thought he would call in the medical clearance and resumption of care orders to the PT but he didn't. My physical therapist said they could not resume without the clearance or new orders. Dr McKeller also had advised the reception staff to cancel my next follow up visit because my Xray of my knee looked good. I then had to set another appointment to see Dr Toulson to get new PT orders. At my appointment I complained that I never got the medical clearance or PT orders. He replied that Dr. McKeller said my rt knee looked good. Frustrated, I said my phlebitis was in my left leg, not my right leg and that was why you sent me to see Dr. McKeller in the first place...because you didn't want me to wait until I could see you. Then; to my detriment, I added, if Dr. McKeller can't tell a left leg from a right leg maybe he should retire. Dr Toulson immediately excused his staff assistant, got down on his knee in front of me had me bend my right knee backward to test my range of motion then advised me "I was going to be just fine". I could tell he was angry over my remark and expected him to address my rude comment but he instead just got up; asked me to follow him. He then walked me out to the reception area and told the discharge clerk that I was ready for discharge. The clerk asked when to schedule my next appointment and Dr Touls shook his head no and told him I would not need another appointment. The clerk said "but she" and Dr Toulson interrupted him and repeated I would not need another appointment then turned and walked away. Dr Toulson did not give me discharge instructions nor resumption orders for PT. I was stunned. I called PT and they said they had not received any new orders. They suggested I call my family doctor to get resumption orders. My appointment with my family doctor was almost 3 weeks away and I was extremely upset. I looked for my post op exercises from having my left knee replacement Zanesville OH the previous year and followed those exercises until I accomplished full function of my right knee. My family doctor did call in new orders about a month later but by then I found I was doing okay on my own. Thank goodness I had kept my folder from my Ohio orthopedic surgeon. I do have two really good knees but ultimately give credit my Ohio surgeon for my post op recovery on my right knee because Dr Toulson couldn't take hearing a negative comment from a frustrated patient. My recovery was ultimately good because I kept my post op exercise orders from previous total left knee. I am a retired RN and was the medical director over a Home Health and Hospice. I know that patients can sometimes become angry/frustrated and need a extra support or understanding when they are upset. I also know that sometimes these same patients can get out of line with comments and/or behavior and need redirection until they can calm down. However; they ultimately need to feel they can share their feelings when communicating a complaint and be supported while a plan to address their concern is completed. I don't feel my one agreeably negative comment was worthy of a full patient discharge early in my post op period. To discharge a patient because of one rude remark seems pretty petty to me. I could have been addressed for this negative comment about his partner but I feel discharging me without follow up care was reckless and inappropriate on his part. He's didn't send out a patient satisfaction survey after discharge so after much thought....felt like I could call and complain to Medicare or... just share my experience this way. Maybe another patient won't experience what I did or.... He will be kinder to his next frustrated patient and at least make sure they have a safe discharge plan.

I made an appointment on their website and someone called me to get my insurance information and…read moreconfirm my appointment. The next day, I got multiple calls and text messages from their office saying that they need to collect my insurance information. I wasn't able to answer right away and they kept calling over and over and leaving different messages, including one message that said my appointment was being canceled because my drivers license is expired (it isn't). I called them again and they confirmed my insurance is valid. Went in for the appointment and the receptionist tries to get me to "Self pay" and says I don't have valid insurance. Had to provide the insurance a 3rd time before they finally acknowledged it. I got as far as seeing the medical assistant. I showed her my most recent MRI and a stack of medical records going back 2 years. She quickly told me that the doctor wasn't going to be able to help me and I left. Never saw the doctor. Also their office is full of red flags, like advertisements for laser hair removal, ketamine injections, Regenexx ads all over the place (which is not a proven treatment and is experimental at best), something called the O-shot for woman sexual improvement. I feel stupid for going here.

I called several times after seeing the doctor for my 91 year old mother to get the next steps done for her epidural and they never call back or respond to the cardiologist office who also contacted them. But they called, texted and left a voice mail when they needed the insurance information yet could not call me back about the patients needs of getting the epidural moved forward. Terrible office staff and unfortunately I will take my mother somewhere else because I will not deal with the terrible, disorganized and lack of help in the office.
