The prices are reasonable and booking in advance is normally only at busy periods such as Christmas etc. probably best to cal if you have doubts. The tables have plenty of room so less on the knocking elbows and the staff are very polite and helpful. The food speaks for itself and with the choice of the carvery or set meals from the menu there is guarantied to be something for everyone. The restaurant and bar has its own off road parking and beer garden so great for the summer as well and worth a look.

I have to say that we were totally disgusted with the service, attitude of staff and on some items…read moreridiculous high cost. The staff closed the toilets and left it as disabled only where you have to ask for the key. Considering we had three children, one who is autistic and has an issue with toilets, having to ask for the key every time was ridiculous. I know also that it was only because it meant they did not have to clean them later. This also then took away the reason for having a separate toilet for disabled only. If you were in a wheelchair you would have to wait for all the families to finish!! Considering the fact there were many staff doing very little it seemed the height of laziness to us as a family. We also were told that we could not have toast for one of the children, even though we asked specially as he had it his mind he was having toast and he could have marmite. The way he works he saw marmite expected toast but could not have any.... To him he did not understand. Not exactly helping in the family friendly department!!! What family restaurant can't do toast! Plus I was told by a man whilst on his way passed me. Not even "I'm sorry we are not able " or anything just "No we don't, no toast!" Then one of the children wanted a yoghurt. A tiny fromage frais you can buy anywhere, £1.25, outrageous cost, that is where it is seriously silly. Cakes and coffees you can just about understand silly prices, but that took the biscuit. Then the cheek, total disregard for the customers and seriously disrespectful attitude was apparent when the staff started putting chairs up on tables around people still drinking and eating. We felt such a need to rush out (even though they did not close their doors to customers for another 38 minutes). Service, treatment and facilities not acceptable in our mind. I won't visit again in any hurry unless its under new management. The staff need some customer service training, and also general work training. You don't just all stand in a line by the till talking when people enter. You don't try to then appear to be totally disinterested in your customers. A little smile and helpfulness goes along way. Especially when your only customers at that point are families. £60 plus was spent on just a couple of sandwiches, drinks, cakes and children's fish fingers. Ashamed is what they should be, You never know who you're serving... Golden rule of customer service...Always treat every customer as an important one no matter who they are and even if you deem them as not!!

I don't drink so all I wanted was a glass of water, which only came after the food was served and I reminded the guy. It is difficult to flag down servers because it's almost as if they have been trained not to look at customers. But I should have known: the worst time to be in stores and restaurants is when things are quiet. The staff are doing other things - cleaning, setting tables, stocking etc. You get much better service when things are busy. Generally restaurants should put something, anything, in front of a customer while they wait for their food. Water, bread or bread sticks, whatever. I waited a loooong time at that table with nothing to do. The worst was paying bill - there was no one around. I was tempted to leave without paying because Harry's really didn't want my money. Recommendations: Harry's should use a regular time-tested policy for service with a waiter and bus boy assigned to a certain group of tables. Now the customer can know who their server is. Then, check on customers before, during and after the meal to make sure everything is okay.

I'd compare this with the Queens Arms (see my earlier review) as the nearest thing to it, although the Rose & Crown benefits from having a large garden out the back making this THE place to go when it's sunny. The pub is in a beautiful setting, great for walkers and not too far from town to be worth the trip. We regularly leave the car here and get a taxi back into Yeovil or Sherborne which sets us back less than a tenner. There's regular live music and a healthy following of locals who are always in there, regardless. I've introduced this place to a number of guys from work, who now regularly take clients here for lunch.

Expect to pay around £15 per person depending on what day and time you're visiting. The price doesn't include drinks, so it can get pretty expensive. The restaurant itself is enormous, so there should usually be tables available, even on a weekend. This looks like food paradise from the outside, but few of the dishes are actually of half decent quality! Most of the food is the same cheap rubbish you could buy for £1 from Lidl or Iceland and eat at home (including my personal favourite, 'British Dessert'). Maximise your value for money by feasting on prawn and fish-based dishes as well as the teppanyaki noodles and veggies. The Chinese-style garlic broccoli is pretty good. Avoid the sushi, as it tastes dried-out and far from fresh. I was glad that there were at least a few dairy-free desserts to choose from (lactose-intolerant over here), as most of them were covered in whipped cream. I can imagine the chocolate fountain is fun for getting creative with your desserts. Probably not the place to visit if you're looking for a high quality dining experience, but would be good for larger groups and children if you don't mind the price. I noticed many people were eating just chicken nuggets and chips, which baffled me a little as there's so much choice! If you do end up here, at least get value for money and try a bit of everything - it's not too scary!

Front of house staff are very pleasant and efficient too. This place has long been a favourite haunt for people that want a decent meal in town and it's my local restaurant as it's just down the hill from me. So I was hoping that it would be blinder so that me and the missus could wander down for dinner and drinks on a regular basis and not have to fork out a taxi. Unfortunately not. The menu lacks imagination, and appears to be devised by someone who really can't be asked with doing anything new and interesting. For instance there was a choice of 5 starters, almost all of which were repeated in the main course section, i.e. mussels as a starter or a main, crab cakes as a starter or a main, etc. The other odd thing was the mussels, listed as local - well they can't be that local as we're not near the sea. Furthermore, after a bit of questioning the kitchen (thank you very helpful front of house girls) it transpired that their mussels were supplied by Samways in Bridport. Now Samways is a very good supplier, but their mussels come from wherever they can get them, mainly Cornwall, Wales but sometimes from Scotland. The local mussels (well as close as you can get) are from Portland which can be very dirty. I suspect our mussels were from Cornwall due to the clean shells, but that's a pure guess. One page of the menu was dedicated to steaks - every type imaginable. The girlfriend as ever went for fillet steak, even after my advice to the contrary. My worst fears were realised when this thing came out, which although technically fillet, didn't really look like one, more like a sirloin with the fat cut off. It also had no real flavour, cue more pepper sauce. In summary, I'd rather spend the extra money when going out and go somewhere great, like The Green in Sherborne. Maybe I need to move there?
