Her first visit was in 1985 (same owners then too) she was back in 2005 and again with me in 2011. The owner was in for breakfast one day and was delighted to hear the story. He said the most loyal guest had visited from the age of 5 to 90. Here are reasons pertinent to choosing the Harlingford yourself: * It's affordable and pleasant. * It's a short bus or tube ride or a moderate walk from Soho/Leicester Square Theatre * It's a short walk to a couple of tube nexuses where you can jump on nearly any train line * It's close to attractions like the British Museum The hotel is a two-star hotel and will be a different experience than a Hilton or W Hotel. However the price offsets this difference as you're saving £100-200 per night! The free full English breakfast can give you a substantial and quick start to your day. If you are addicted to Starbucks there are two within two blocks. There are several nearby dining spots including an Indian restaurant named Depa and a city-class fish shop named North Sea Fish Restaurant. In addition to price, location is important, but it can be a challenge if you don't know the city. When looking for a hotel for our five night stay, there were many affordable options in good areas of London, but in the end we chose 69 The Grove, a lovely B&B in the Vauxhall area of London, and it was a GREAT decision. 69 The Grove is so-called because the address is 69 Vauxhall Grove. It is in the Vauxhall area, which is just south of the Thames. While a bit further away from all the main attractions in London, it was just a five minute walk to Vauxhall Station, on the Victoria Line, and took just 20 to 30 minutes to get to wherever we needed to go. It was a perfect balance of being in a quiet residential area and having quick and easy access to the busier parts of the city. It was also within walking distance of many restaurants, parks, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Lambeth Bridge, and other attractions. I absolutely loved the area. The price of our five night stay was $1,205.35 CAD (including all taxes), and a full English breakfast is included each morning, Monday to Saturday -- an excellent value. While the room was small, it had everything we needed -- a private bathroom, comfy bed, a mini fridge and kettle, and it was clean and quiet. If my budget allows, I want to make another trip to London, and I hope 69 The Grove is still in operation. It was such a pleasant place to stay, and I would not hesitate to go back. I highly recommend 69 The Grove. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Hotels]

Great rooms, and what a deal. It's no wonder I had to book again the same week for another layover day. There rooms are so comfortable. Only negative was that there was a minor blood stain on my pillow which was really disgusting, the 2nd time around. (No pic provided, but #569 was horrid because of that) Please wash and thoroughly check your sheets, and esp pillow cases before presenting that to a guest. All and all though I would say a 3 1/2-4 because of that incident. If that didn't happen, a def 5 for me. Food was great too. Love how they have a restaurant and a Costa Coffee cafe. Never Judge a Book by it's Cover…read more Never has a statement been soo true. I would never have walked into this pub. If I had walked in, one look at the football flags on the ceiling, the dirty dated decor, dodgy loud electro music and the clientele would make me turn right around and run away. All over the walls are an eclectic mix of female film idols, drink advertisements for beverages they don't even offer and general tat all look odd and out of the place. The walls are painted in rich colours and trendy wallpaper completely juxterposed the original - old man pub - carpet. Inside there menus describe themselves as a 'shot bar and restaurant' with a picture of a flaming glass. This is possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen, as apart from the Blue Neon lights installed above the bar, this is so far from the image they really project. When I was there it appeared two 14 year old boys were manning the bar. One, clearly experienced, the other who - while polite, couldn't serve alcohol for some reason. They sell wine in mini bottles and if it doesn't come out of a gun, they don't sell it. Also in that night was Southall's biker society. Why am I here you ask? Apart from having little choice in the matter (demanding ex) I was told the curry was great. In fact I was told that the previous owners of what was The Glassy Junction by Southall Station were now set up here. So, we order the food. The Menu had a great variety and was very very reasonably priced for the area. Lots of veggie options clearly displayed under 'non meat'. The barman who was new had no clue how to use the till to order food and so the farce continued. It may have taken half an hour for him to take our money and another 50 mins for our food to come out. However - (big however) when the food came out, it was pretty amazing. Moorish and full of flavor. Generous portions, cheap prices and absolutely beautiful grub. The veggie curry was so yummy and the Dhal was the best I've ever had. Smooth and creamy in texture. The Baji's were not grease, but perfectly cooked and seasoned. The entire experience was so awful and surprising at the same time. I'm torn. Do I give one star or 5? One star for just how awful the place really is, or 5 for the hilarity and beautiful food?

I won a one night stay at this peaceful rural retreat by composing a poem about The Chilterns area…read morewhich has been published on the Visit Chilterns website. The booking by email was administered very efficiently and we extended at a cost of ninety Pounds for one extra night as my Australian friend was over. Miv, the owner asked us if there were any special dietary requirements but there are none for us. We caught,at some expense, Chiltern Railways from London Marylebone to Princes Risborough. The internet instructions I got, not from the actual B&B website, but from Google Maps or something, proved to give us the runaround. We walked in the pouring rain and I had to knock on someone else's door in a different part of town for directions as there are two streets with 'Icknield' in them. Our upstairs room was very clean, quite large with a small TV and a rocking horse, shower and comfortable bed. We were able to order an Italian meal from a local takeaway to be delivered on the first night which we ate in the kitchen. The breakfasts are superb with bacon, sausage and the usual, lovely bread and I tried Grape Nuts for the first time with yogurt and lemon curd. We walked into the quaint town on the next, much sunnier day and gazed at the lovely church and Amy Johnson's house, browsed charity shops and then caught the 300 bus to Aylesbury which I had never visited before. The 300 bus we caught back (destination High Wycombe) and this dropped us at the end of the street from the B&B (we just had to pass a crossroads). Miv gave us use of the annex lounge and kitchenette which opens onto a very large garden and I finished a crime book sitting and lying in the sun next to a farm at the end of the garden. The cats are shy - I would have liked to have stroked them. A real rural retreat from London, peaceful and some of the houses are very 'Midsomer Murders' around this area. Well done Miv for donating this prize - I've never really spent the night in a large house in The Chilterns before and her husband very kindly gave us a lift back to the station for our train to London as it was raining. I can understand a B&B owner not wanting smoking inside but I think an ashtray for the garden would be handy although we didn't really get negative comments about our cigarettes. It reminded me of New Zealand this B&B!
