Meanwhile, recent reviews are way more positive, and honestly, they reflect my experience perfectly. This hotel deserves more love! It's not flawless (what place is?), but the staff and overall value deserve high ratings, and I'm rooting for them to get more recognition. Let's break it down: 1. Location, location, location. You can't beat the convenience--steps from Paddington Station and right in the heart of central London. It's perfect for tourists and locals alike. The area is accessible and easy to navigate, making it a great base for exploring the city. 2. Spotless cleanliness. One of the biggest highlights. Housekeeping here is stellar. Our room was always tidy, with fresh towels and a clean (albeit compact) bathroom. It's clear the staff takes pride in keeping the place in top shape. 3. Exceptional service. The front desk staff here make the experience memorable. Mehdi, the manager, was super professional, while Amin (I hope I got his name right!) was warm and eager to help despite being new. At checkout, Hakeem stepped in with just as much enthusiasm. They even assisted guests with their luggage--impressive since there's no elevator. Sure, it's inconvenient, but the historic charm of these Norfolk Square buildings makes it understandable. 4. Value for money. Affordable rates in a city as pricey as London? Yes, please. Considering the location, cleanliness, and service, this place is a steal. A few notes for improvement: Our room was in the basement, and while it was cozy, we could hear the Underground at night. Thankfully, it stops running past midnight, so it wasn't a dealbreaker. Bottom Line: Cleanliness Hospitality Location Affordability If you're looking for a charming, centrally-located stay without breaking the bank, Tudor Court Hotel is an excellent choice. Recently stayed there, and I had a bit of a mixed experience…read more The positives: the location (convenient, quiet, close to tube, etc); friendly staff; apples everywhere; very clean; comfy bed; nice breakfast, with newspapers. (The Continental breakfast is included, cooked extra). The negatives: to do with the room, really. It was on two levels, down a long corridor which felt a bit of an annex, although in reality it is one floor of the adjacent building. On the 'ground floor' level was a decent enough bathroom, with a single chair and occasional table outside. The bathroom was expensively appointed but getting a little rough around the edges. Upstairs was a sleeping platform with a huge and comfy bed, but an incredibly low ceiling, in the middle of which was a beam. It was painted purple to make it stand out, but inevitably I hit my head on it at one point. The ceiling is only 5' 9" high anyone taller would have to bend over all the time. And the beam is about 5ft off the ground, and you can only access the bed by walking past it. (See photos) The dressing table and wardrobe were up there, too, so for tall people it really would be most unpleasant. To the side of the bed was a cubby hole fitted with velvet mattresses and cushions, like a sort of snug. I'm no sure what you'd do with it, though, as you couldn't easily see the TV from it. The other problem was that above is an apartment which is not owned by the hotel. The owners (or visitors?) returned from a night out at 2am and made a lot of noise until 3.30am. Not good for me as I was working next day. I told the staff who said they would complain to the neighbours, but I'm not sure they would have much control over the situation.

Bathroom was tiny but also gleaming, had its own hi-tech light panel and lighted shaving mirror. The Henley lays on a super continental breakfast (not a full English) including tea, coffee, toast, rolls, juices, boil-your-own eggs, croissants, cereals, yogurt, apples, cheese and meat slices, jams, Nutella and more. Served in a wonderfully bright glass sun room (not a dark chamber) that was built new in 2015. Tucked away on a quiet street, we didn't hear much traffic, yet only a 2-minute walk to the Earl's Cross tube stop. Many pubs and restaurants by the tube also. Minor complaints only: no bedside clock, extremely few channels on that beautiful tv, the beds were a bit firm for me, toilet was unusually difficult to flush, very balky and underpowered lift.

The room we were in was really nice, the bed was really comfortable and huge, and the coffee machine in the room was a great bonus. This is not a large hotel, but the rooms are clean and appointed well enough to make you forget this former townhouse is just a bed & breakfast in the middle of what is bed & breakfast row. The Savoy is open if you want to blow £450/night. All the rooms are slightly different, and the website doesn't accurately depict each room type--not their fault, but don't expect too much. I originally booked a deluxe room on the second floor. I entered a room where the furniture was nearly all white and smelled like wet paint. The antique armoire, while a nice touch, had one wooden hanging bar with no shelves or drawers--not a good thing. I called downstairs and switched to a much better third floor room (room 203) called an "executive room" that had nicer, more corporate styled furniture. I doubt any of the bathrooms have tubs, only smallish shower stalls. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to book a top-floor room so that you won't hear your neighbors above you or people walking up & down the stairs. This hotel is creaky but no noisier than what I'd expect from similar rehabbed old townhouses. I happened to take my earplugs along for the flight over, but I ended up using them to sleep through whatever footsteps I heard above. If you're an American reading this, you'll want to understand bedding terms in ye olde B&B hotels: Small hotels rarely follow naming/sizing conventions you're used to in the States. If you ask for a King Double, you'll probably get a room with two twin-sized mattresses pushed together to form one big bed. This has an undesired side effect--once the sheets are put on, one mattress might be slightly lower than the other. It's one of those things you'll have to see to understand. Prepare yourself: One of the oddest things is that the lift doesn't stop at the floors you'd expect. You'll see what I mean once you're there. My room was 203, yet the closest the elevator stopped was "3"--then I had to walk down half a flight of steps to get to the floor. As for the breakfast, it was nice. Some of the menu items changed from day to day to keep selections interesting. My fave items: fresh Boursin and Brie cheeses that were refreshed daily. Getting Boursin cheese in the morning is like getting caviar for dinner. The lobby area in the front is compact and lovely. Remember that the Sumner Hotel is not a fancy business hotel with all the trappings you'd expect from corporate lodging. This is a superb B&B with just enough fancy touches to make your stay relaxing without gouging your billfold. Extremely friendly employees were pleasant and unpretentious. I'd like to thank all the employees for being so friendly and accommodating during my stay. Beata, Peter N., Lukas R. and Mark D. made my first trip overseas terrific.

They had us on 4th floor (5th floor to Americans) on one side the first night and then asked us to move to the same floor on the other side (back down the stairs and back up the other side - it's two old Georgian townhouses joined together - the room towers don't join). They said they would move our bags for us for the second night so we wouldn't have to carry them down and then up, but they only carried them down. Then they left them in the lobby all day, sometimes unattended (with our computer, passports, cash, etc.). They promised to bring them up, but only brought one, and after an hour (and we ready to go to bed) they still hadn't brought the other, so I went and got the bag from the unattended lobby and hauled it up myself. They offered no discount for the lack of a lift (elevator) - nor any advanced warning though it is a planned replacement and not an unexpected outage. They did discount breakfast (from 15 GBP per person to 7.50) but it was terrible - not worth the half-price cost - better to hit a coffee/tea shop. This was the only place on a 15 night, six city tour that disappointed us. Until they get their act together (and their elevator replaced), I would AVOID The Sumner Hotel.

They are comfortable and the controls present in the walls give good control over the temperature and various lighting settings. The TVs are smart TVs and offer the ability to screen mirror from your mobile device. I found that while this worked in general it would seem to support my streaming services. The staff were very nice, welcoming and helpful.
