I can't imagine a better hotel to stay in in Oxford! Although 'hotel' might be a little inaccurate…read more- this place is more of an inn or b&b. The location can't be any more central - down a tiny alley, right on top of the Turf Tavern and just around the corner from the Bodleian and Trinity College, Bath Place really is right in the heart of Oxford. Booking is a bit of a pain - like many smaller English hotels, they prefer that you book by phone, which is less than ideal when you have to pay international calling rates, but that's just a small hiccup. We arrived a bit later than anticipated due to some car trouble, but the hotel was perfectly accommodating. We were greeted by the receptionist and two friendly terriers, and shown to our room. I'd requested room 12 specifically because it's one of their few rooms with two beds, and it was perfectly lovely, but not for the mobility-limited. It's up a narrow, winding flight of stairs and there's no lift, so anyone who might have issues climbing stairs or those with giant luggage might struggle. We didn't mind, and had the top floor of the cottage to ourselves with a view of the bell tower and a pretty back garden. The room was quite spacious, especially for an historic property, and well appointed with a dresser, vanity, and mini-bar complete with tea and coffee fixings. The bath, although lacking a shower, had a generously-sized tub and a heated towel rail, which I was supremely excited about. We had a good night's sleep, uninterrupted by Turf revelers - with the windows closed, we couldn't hear a thing, although I imagine it might be different in the summer - and in the morning availed ourselves of the breakfast buffet. Breakfast is included in the room fee, and the buffet spread wasn't lacking. Meat and cheese, fruit, juice, cereal, yogurt, and tiny glass jars of jam and honey. Fresh bread and warm croissants were brought to our table, as well as a tiny French press of coffee made to order. There was also an option to order additional hot items like eggs or beans on toast, which we didn't bother with as the buffet was plenty. Although checkout was at 11am, we were able to leave our luggage at reception until our train later that afternoon while we explored the town. The room fee was very reasonable, especially considering the historic nature of the property, the central location, and the wonderful breakfast. I can't wait to return to Oxford and stay here again!

We booked in for a week on our next visit to Oxford. What a lovely place to stay. Our room was well appointed and furnished, the breakfasts filling and tasty, the bar area very welcoming. What a great place to stay. Come enjoy!

We chose this establishment for the one night we were planning to stay in Oxford. This property has the best location of any hotel or bed & breakfast in the immediate area. It's right on Broad street almost smack dab in the middle of town. Frankly, the location can't be beat. We stayed in a remarkably average room. The bed wasn't very comfortable, the television had very poor reception and limited channels and the bathroom was VERY oddly designed; we had to dangerously climb onto a polished marble "step" to enter the raised bathtub area. Again, the saving grace for this property is its wonderful location. Also, the complimentary breakfast is delicious and hearty. To my knowledge, this property does not have an elevator available for guest use, so be prepared to begrudgingly carry heavy suitcases up a steep flight of stairs to the reception area, and then possibly up more steps to your room. Pleasingly, all the staff we encountered were friendly and accommodating. However, after dark, the area has a generally seedy feeling to it, with dim lighting and sketchy characters lurking about. I definitely recommend this property to anyone planning to stay overnight in Oxford. Third time's a charm: the location of this establishment is IDEAL.

Had a great 1 night stay at Ethos. We booked direct with the hotel and received an email with pre-…read morecheckin instructions so checking in was super easy. Checkout was a breeze too. We booked a deluxe double bed room with 2 doubles for a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children. Refrigerator with free fresh milk and bottles of water (both sparkling and flat). Very fast internet. Comfy beds and very quiet although our room was next to the street. Strong pressure shower and thick toilet paper. Worth every penny booking the business direct rate which includes free parking, full English/continental breakfast, £20 food credit at cafe ethos, early checkin at 2pm and late checkout at 1pm and an Oxford city card that includes a 10% discount to Oxford castle and many more. Can park in front of the cafe or there's a private lot behind the cafe. If you have a midsize car or suv, it might be difficult for you to park in the back. Staff doesn't always pick up the phone but if you stop by the cafe, they will get a hold of the front desk staff for you. We used the food credit to get 2 pizzas at the cafe. Pizzas were quite yummy! Breakfast had a nice spread of continental buffet and made to order items. Easy 15 min walk to city center. Would stay again!

Having never been to Oxford, I was looking for something close enough to walk since I did not have…read morea car. Ethos is close enough but outside of the center of the town. It's located in a quiet neighborhood. At first it was not clear where to check-in, (if you go it's in the café). The ladies I dealt with most of my visit (Bushra & Claudia) were very pleasant. They were nice welcoming faces to come back to each day. The room I had (directly above the Café) was bigger than anticipated (not a bad thing). It's technically like your own mini-apartment. Queen bed, bathroom with tub, kitchen (no stove or microwave) mini-fridge & sink, table and sofa. I loved all the windows! It is a bit quirky, not necessarily in a bad way, you need to know there is no lift, so with my heavy/large suitcase this was a bit challenging, there is no phone in the room so you have to use your mobile to reach the hotel staff, the light over the bathroom sink didn't work, and it could use a bit of work/deep cleaning (water gets all over the floor when showering)...however, it was still quite quaint (maybe not as much for the price). The bigger downfall for me was the breakfast, it can get busy and with only one person working I think she seemed quite frazzled and it came off as rude. I pre-paid £10 for a hot breakfast each day and the first day was the only day I could get that since it was the only quiet day, the next 2 days I got cereal since it was almost impossible to get a coffee never mind ordering something hot. I even tried getting a take-away cup one day for tea and received quite the bit of attitude from her....I paid £10 and only got cereal! Luckily there was a gentleman who saw this logic as well and provided the cup for me. (to be fair, I was heading to work each morning, so I did not have an hour for breakfast, If I was on Holiday I suppose I could have waited longer for service) I know I was not the only guest who felt like this since a few of us chatted a bit about it. Nonetheless, I slept quite well and this is probably the main purpose of a hotel so I was very happy to feel rested each morning.
