Nicely furnished rooms with a good sized bathroom, free wifi, and a nice pasture view. The Pub/restaurant has a good ale selection and a fullbar. The fitness center is large and well equipped . There is also a spa treatment center on site so I may have to take advantage of their 1/2 price massage deals....

It's a quirky little hotel, with great charm. A couple of notes: 1) We didn't want to drive in Oxford, but this location is just a couple K from the Lower Heyford train station. Dropped car there, took train right to downtown Oxford... avoided driving and parking hassle. 2) Location is also very close to Blenheim Palace.

The room was so bad that we asked to move and were given another room that, although not as bad, was still very poor. However, the staff were very pleasant throughout and very helpful (I hope this is not because it happens all the time!!). The food was another matter. The set menus start at approx £85 which does appear to be a little bit pricey, but do not be put off because the food is absolutely amazing. Intertwined with the 3 courses are another number of smaller courses to really set your pallet dancing. I have never eaten such beautiful and clever food. At the end of the meal I did not feel completely stuffed, but pleasantly full, all washed down with a lovely bottle of red. The food here is amazing, pity the rooms do not live up to the same standards. A good place to go to treat yourself to a wonderful evening of food (just don't stay the night!!).

The hotel is unusual in that it is made up of several buildings with reasonably pleasant gardens in between. Very nice in summer, but I should imagine it could be a nightmare in winter! My room was in one of the remote blocks and was reasonable quality but nothing special. I only ate in the restaurant for breakfast, and the kippers, whilst tasty, had a ridiculous number of small bones in them. Despite this it was a pretty good breakfast in general and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Superb scenery outside, great service staff who were always ready with the drink and canapes. The canapes themselves were exquisite. Wedding "breakfast" was one of the best I've ever had at a wedding, and if I'm ever in the area again I wouldn't hesitate to have lunch or dinner at their usual restaurant on site. Less than an hour away from the City, you arrive at a beautiful estate, surrounded by lovely trees and golf course. You may recognize the estate from a couple of James Bond films. If you are not a golfer, they have a spa that is perfect for some solo time, or for a day with girlfriends. There is a lounge/waiting area where you can order all sorts of snacks. Speaking of snacks, Stoke Park does the nicest tea service I have ever encountered. I could devour all three tiers of sandwiches and sweets all by myself, but only because I am little piggy.

I take Sunday lunch very seriously when we're in the UK. If a pub says it serves "Traditional…read moreSunday Lunch," I expect it to be served by a balding landlord, huffing up the stairs from the too-small kitchen while arguing loudly with his once-attractive but now tragically large-busted and over-made-up wife (called Barbara), while muttering insults under his wheezing breath. Too specific, y'think? Probably, but that's my expectation and, damn it, I'm the customer! Which brings us to The Ivy House, a great pub stuck on a hillocks to the side of the Amersham Road. We visited with a quite-large party, in the latter hours of what is generally considered lunchtime. It was to be our last big meal before flying home, and I had taste buds that needed to be sated for about another year. The place delivered mightily. Pleasingly for our diverse crew, it had a great selection of meals for traditionalists, kids, and vegetarians. Service was swift and friendly absent the balding landlord and trollopy wife in my imagination but full of an efficient waiter who couldn't have been more helpful. The roast beef was good but, as the last of the day, it was a little dry and gristly. The rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard was lovely, though perhaps a tad too sweet for some. All five of the kids with us thoroughly enjoyed their meals, too, so the whole party was completely happy. The ale I had was the icing on the cake (not literally), though it's name now escapes me. The Ivy House is an excellent spot for a great Sunday lunch. They had signs in the pub, asking for patrons to support an effort to stop a new train track being laid across the fields right in front of the pub. I surely hope they succeed in this effort. The pub's in a very serene spot. If we're ever in the area again, we'll be back.

Staff were attentive to dietary requirements. For the afternoon tea they require a deposit during booking. (Advice is to book your afternoon tea well ahead of time, with your set dietary requirements so they can accommodate for this beforehand). We went during Christmas, so the afternoon tea was composed for the season. This consisted of seasonal sandwiches, seasonal cakes and treats. Very generous portions for the price, and lovely desserts. As for the sandwiches, they were not up to scratch unfortunately. Very basic tasting, and dry. This is why I am giving a 3 star rating, as I would probably only return for the location / ambiance / dessert aspect of the afternoon tea. Parking is in abundance. Do check it out!

We dined in the Thai restaurant which is a small, lower level area that is a bit cramped. Food was great but seating was very squashed. I'm 5' 10" and was OK but anyone over 6' might struggle. Bar ambiance was good but again a bit cramped - it's long and thin with people coming through a lot of the time so not a great place to stand. The room was a bit strange (see photo) but comfortable although (and there's a theme developing here) the bathroom was a bit small and the door was not well placed - I trapped my fingers in it once. Overall a fun experience with good food so well worth a trip but I would book the more spacious English restaurant next time!
