Having never played here before, I wasn't sure what to expect. It turned out to be a great pitch and putt course. Unfortunately I sucked this day, but that is certainly not the fault of this course. It was all me!! This is a nice challenging course. I played the back nine after work with some co-workers. You can very easily leave your woods in your bag and play irons and most often wedges for many of the holes. For those of us who need work on that part of their game, of which I certainly do, it was a good challenge. No bombs away here, you will need to actually shape your shots. Several dog leg lefts and right will prevent you from just trying to blast your way to the green. The twilight price is very affordable, $16 for nine or $24 for 18 you can work your day and still get some good golf in. I thought about giving a horrible review so there would be less people coming here to get their golf, but that just wouldn't be fair for this great little course. read more

With sprawling greens and a tidy attention to the details, Oakway Golf Course is a hidden gem in the center of Eugene. It's clean, well kept, and routinely watered - keeping it lush even in the middle of August. I've seen a variety of animals in my time on the course, from birds to squirrels to wild turkeys. This is one of the friendliest places to play golf that I have ever visited. Maybe I'm just used to being around pretentious California golfers and our golf clubs, but the players and staff here seemed to all share a very warm and friendly personality. I was staying at a hotel nearby on my trip to Oregon to pick up my Army buddy, and I found this place on the map. I called the proshop around 5PM to see if I could book a tee time, and they told me that if I walked in after six that I could play for 10 bucks walking. I got there at about quarter till, and I noticed that there was no one on the tee, and that there was a line of folks waiting to pay the twilight round. I reconned the course, and thought, holy cow- this is not a 10 dollar course. I went back into the proshop, asked to pay the regular green fee so that I could beat the rush, and I was only charged 16 bucks! I went to the tee box, and there was a couple who were teeing off. They asked if I wanted to join, and I said yes, of course, and we had a wonderful round together. After our round, I ran into the greenskeeper, and the headpro, and they were very friendly people who did not mind shooting the shit with me for a few minutes. The clerk at the proshop gave me a club logo ball as a souvenir, and wished me a good night. These were genuine people who seemed to love their job and cared about the golfers coming through their course. Awesome place. There were a couple of tricky holes where the tee box is about 30-40 feet above green level, while water is in play, and a par four with a sharp dog leg right, but most holes were easy enough. Minus one half star for lack of driving range (which made my first few holes miserable) but otherwise, this place is great. read more

Oakway is located in a quite neighborhood and is a wide open in expensive track. It's a pretty straight ahead golf course that is great for the beginner. Not much in the way as in vertical challenges, but plenty of straightaways and the occasional dogleg. They don't have a range, but have a small netted hitting area to get warmed up in. It's a relatively well kept course and convenient being that it's in town. We never had problems getting a tee time and the guys there were friendly enough. Most of the players here are pretty cool locals, so it's a really laid back vibe. Parking should be plentiful and if you're not too familiar with the area, I'd map it out first. read more

Steve in the pro shop is funny, personable, and just a really nice guy. I haven't been to the course in a while, but happened to see him from afar at another golf course. He smiled, waved, and shouted "hey! Good to see ya!" to me. Real top man. The facility has a small putting green that is pretty decent. It rolls just like the greens on the course, but is a little better-irrigated, probably from being a bit more sheltered than many greens, so it isn't as hard in the summer, so chips won't run out quite as much. There is also a short game area with a bunker and some longer grass to practice playing out of the sand. It's been closed for a little bit, but I imagine they have it opened back up. It's a really good little area to practice. They do not have a driving range, which is a bit of a bummer, but they did everything they could with the space they have. The course is pretty good, too. In the summer, it gets pretty hot and dry, since a lot of the holes are exposed to the dead heat, but they generally do a good job keeping the place nice and tidy. The greens get very hard and patchy in the summer, but they lost their irrigation system this past summer, so they had to use a temporary green on the first. This was a rough summer for them. In the spring and winter, the course was in top shape. Every hole has nice, even greens with little undulation in general. They're super receptive. I create a lot of spin, so I usually don't play for too much run-out on most holes, but here, I usually have to strip some spin off on the shorter par 3's to keep the ball from rolling back too much. I've de-greened myself from the middle of the 10th (Lob wedge, 88 ish yards) and 12th (8i, 165 ish yards) from spin on the spring greens. Both have false fronts, but still, that's pretty ridiculous. The layout is pretty short and sweet. All par 4's are driveable, and there is only one hole at 302 yards. The rest are in the 240-280 range. There isn't a lot of trouble, apart from some houses lining two par 4's (5th and 17th). There are houses along other holes, but they're more out of the way. There's a little pond to the right of one hole, but it's not really in play unless you hit a wicked slice on the 140-yarder. Bunkers line many greens, but all of them are nice to play out of. The sand is pretty soft most days, but isn't powdery. They're not too tricky as far as bunkers go. It's not a terribly windy course, but it becomes a tricky course if there is wind. You get a lot of different-angled holes relative to the wind, so it will challenge your ability to judge distances in imperfect conditions. The golfers there are generally pretty slow in groups of 2 or more. It's a very flat, beginner-friendly course, so many of the groups have first-timers or high handicappers. I've joined up with many a group after catching up to them, and everybody I've played with has been really cool and open. You don't see the snobby type golfer on this course. If you want a nice, confidence-boosting course or are just getting into golf as a beginner, this is certainly a great course to try out. It's my favorite spot to take my friends who I'm converting to golf-ism. read more

I golf here several times a month and appreciate the ability to jump on the course after work and hit a quick 9 holes. the fairways are in good shape, and they're doing the best that they can to keep the greens in good shape, considering how busy they are. A great little "pitch and putt", with a few longer holes to mix things up a little. Inexpensive, surprisingly well maintained, and beautifully landscaped, this is a small gem. I prefer the slightly more challenging back nine if I have a choice, but it's all good. Men and women's league is fun to join, and a great price. This course is one of the best! The staff and crew members are the best you can find. They are all super friendly and work super hard rain or shine. The course is kept in pristine condition and competes with the country club courses. The price is great and it is my go to course whenever I get out to play. Join the men's league or even the women's league, I play in the men's league and it is super competitive and fun to play in. I recommend oakway to everybody who plays golf. The course is extremely well kept,the staff is friendly and helpful. This is my go to course when I want to play a quick 9 rounds. Location is close and convenient with a great value for the money. The greens are always very playable under all weather conditions and that is saying something in the rainy northwest. There is good drainage to keep the water running off the greens so they are playable shortly after the rain stops. My hat is off to the greens keeper. The new woman running the pro shop needs more training on how to send groups off the front and the back. She is apparently afraid to send groups off the back and misses opportunities to balance out the load on the course. With many golfers only playing nine, the front ends up being very slow and the back receiving less than half the capacity it could handle. read more

Fun little course. Jamaal and staff are very friendly and try to make your experience the best it can be. Don't read too much break for most putts. They are straighter than you think. Greens are slower so tap it firm to get it there. read more

I have lived in Eugene for over 35 years and had never played this course. I have played famous courses, such as those at Pebble Beach and Bandon, and many of the finer golf destinations in the Northwest. I found this course to be a delightful experience and an wonderful value for the money. As other reviewers have mentioned, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere very relaxed. Stopped by for a round 6/12. Paid $33 w/cart. They were sanding the tee boxes, so temp tees set up in front. Not a difficult course by any definition, but enuff challenge to make things lively. Kept in good shape, lots of trees and houses, but surprisingly quiet as you make your way around. The locals seem to take a lot of pride in their course as they rightly should. I recommend this course for all that appreciate a simple but quaint golf course. read more

I have been playing Oakway for about 8 years. I have seen a great deal of effort from the management to make it into a quality course and that effort has been successful. It is one of the nicest executive courses I have ever played and I am now a regular there. read more
