Dr. James Nikoleit walked in 10 minutes late with no apology, told me to "sit down" when I asked a simple question from one of their own pamphlets, and rushed through the entire visit. Told me 'I don't have to read it to him, he knows what it is, now put that back and sit down'. When I explained I'd actually started feeling better after stopping the medication he prescribed, he said, "maybe we should have increased the dosage instead, not stopping it". When I asked more questions on symptoms, etc. - he got very short, got up and said it sounded like we're done, no more time. He got visibly upset when I told him he showed up 10min late to me. He walked out. That summed up the visit -- no listening, no curiosity, just an automatic push for another prescription and another billable cycle. I could feel and see his pivot when he learned of lost 'business'. Weeks later, I can now say with certainty: I feel 100% better off the medication he wanted me to take more of. It confirmed what I suspected -- this practice runs like a revenue engine, where patients are time-boxed, rushed, and billed, and where keeping the prescription annuity flowing seems more important than genuine care or outcomes. In past visits, he spent more time talking about his old Porsche or golf clubs than my health. But I get told there is no time to talk about my medical concerns. What?! It's clear the focus is volume, not value. For more context: a family member of mine was misdiagnosed by another doctor in this same practice -- told his symptoms were "just depression." He suffered a major stroke the next day. And just this week, a family friend saw this same doctor and left in tears after being cut off mid-sentence and told she needed a "separate visit" to ask her questions. Too many things too close to home. This office has become a transaction factory, not a place of care. If you want a doctor who actually listens and cares about outcomes -- not billing codes -- go somewhere else.

Sounds easy, right? The woman who called told me repeatedly that I had never been seen there. That's not true--I've been going there for about ten years. She finally said I hadn't been seen since the new charting system. How was I supposed to know what she was talking about? She also told me more than once that they weren't seeing sick patients because of the pandemic and I can't get a prescription without being seen. Sounds like a catch 22, right? At the very end she asked if I wanted to be transferred to one of the "girls" (are they employing high schoolers?) to schedule a televisit. So they ARE seeing patients, just not in person. I was so frustrated by the end of the call, I said no. Hey, Northwestern, when you have a minute, train the people on the phone to say, "Since you haven't been here since we changed systems..." and "We're not seeing patients in person, but we can set up a televisit" so that someone who is sick doesn't feel she's out of luck because "she's never been seen and they're not seeing people, so sucks to be you." This is probably a good time to switch doctors. (P.S. I don't know why Yelp is saying I live in San Francisco--I live in Crystal Lake)

They required me to change my primary care doctor with insurance, so I did and made an appointment. At the appointment he walked in and said "I do not treat pain here!" He did this without even looking at the 2 inch thick stack of paperwork, nor did he look at the surgeries I had just days prior. I believe he is trying to scam insurance companies for the initial visits and has no interest in helping anyone. Treated me incredibly rude and without any respect. Do not waste your time with this person.
