It was 9:30pm in Oakland city center where most businesses are closed already. My friends and I just finished dinner and since it is Valentine's Day tomorrow, we were planning where to go to get flowers for our wives before going home. Just as we spoke about the florist seeming to be closed but yet the Open light was turned on, a worker heard us on the street and told us he'll open it for us and get his boss to come. Sure indeed, within less than 5 mins the boss was there and selling us flowers, patiently and allowing us to look at all that she has that they were preparing for tomorrow. Most of us got a bouquet of roses with assortment of color and type of flowers for $30. Freshness and quality seems better than regular grocery store. Price of $30 was reasonable considering Valentine's Day tomorrow. read more

Needed some flowers on a pinch. Thankfully this place was open! Parking: Street parking and structured parking. Feels: Relatively close to Downtown Oakland with Oakland Mariott City Center and in the heart of Chinatown. The place itself is nothing flashy, basically a room decorated with orders of flowers. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly and straight to business. OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Great! I got a simple bouquet for under $17. It was a good amount and had a lovely selection of colors. It's not a flashy place but it gets the job done. If you're looking for flowers regardless of the occasion - large events, simple events, or just getting something yourself, check out this place! Tips: * Call ahead of time to check if they have what you're looking for or if you're trying to get quotes. read more

My little cousin had prom and didn't have a boutonnière. We were cutting it close because it was mother's day weekend and I suspected that all floral shops were pretty much swamped at this point. When I called Oakland Florists when they opened, the woman who helped me kindly asked me a couple quick questions to confirm if it was a boutonnière and corsage set or just a boutonnière. Then she asked what color my cousin's outfit was for prom (black suit, choosing between red or pink bowtie). Then she said, "Okay, I have one boutonnière available in red that will match his outfit. I will reserve for you. Come by anytime today to pick it up." The pick-up process was fast and smooth. The boutonnière came out really nice and was very affordable. Shoutout to this local, AAPI-owned, small business for coming through with the last minute accommodations. And yes, my little cousin's outfit was hella fly for prom!! read more

My first check-in at Oakland Florist was Saturday, January 27, at 3:00 PM. The purpose of my visit was to meet with my sisters and brothers to select funeral wreaths for the passing of my mother. The owner, Elayne Su, allowed us to go through the photos on her tablet to determine which wreaths we wanted to ordered and delivered to the mortuary this coming Friday. It took us some time to select the floral spread for the casket and six funeral wreaths. I was glad that my two sisters-in-law were with us American born Chinese. I would have been at a loss to figure what needed to be done. They are more knowledgeable of the traditional Chinese customs. Elayne was also helpful and pleasant. She answered questions that we had. Because I was short on cash, she was kind enough to allow me to return two days later to pay my share for the funeral wreaths. Thus, the second check in was to take care of business. Finally, the funeral wreath I selected is my high school colors - purple and gold (yellow flowers). Purple is also my mom's favorite color. Rating is 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. read more

Needed to get two bouquets of flowers for a company event. I picked out two dozen roses of different colors and the florist mixed the roses together, added baby's breath and some beautiful foliage, wrapped them up nicely and added a pretty bow to each bouquet. I carried the bouquets back to my office feeling like a beauty pageant queen and got smiles and comments on the way back about how pretty they were. Back at the office I arranged them in these wide mouth glass containers that we had. Gorgeous!!! Three days later the flowers still look beautiful. Will definitely remember this place for next time. read more

My second straight year ordering from here for Valentines. I ordered a dozen roses with tiger lilies and a separate mixed bouquet. The roses/lilies ran about $75 but wilted really fast. The other mixed bouquet was a little overpriced as she seemed to come up with an arbitrary price in the midst of the Valentine's Day rush. Will most likely try a different nearby florist next year. read more

Short notice and fast service. 2 phone calls and a few texts, Ms. Su got the beautiful wreath delivered next day. I definitely will visit her store soon to buy some fresh flowers! read more

My dad suddenly passed away about 2 months ago, and my siblings and had to plan his funeral. It was an extremely difficult time for everyone involved. My mother was in China at the time visiting her relatives for my granddad's funeral, and her relatives there requested specific Chinese style standing sprays; different groups of relatives brought one, and needed formal family title labeling which we don't know about, since we were raised in the US. Eylane, the owner was very sensitive with our situation. She made time to meet with us multiple times within a week as well as through the phone to sort out all the details. She had an iPad full of her recent work (portfolio) and was very organized. She even gave suggestions on what colors we should pick for flowers, and which types of flowers to satisfy any superstitions of Chinese culture that we knew little about, that may have been important to my dad. Such as... since my dad was relatively young, certain colors and types of flowers covey a certain message to our Chinese relatives. She helped us write the ribbons for the sprays, a message to our dad. Delivery was included since it was within Oakland. The sprays arrived before we arrived (1-2 hours earlier than the funeral start time). My siblings and I are extremely grateful for the care, sensitivity, promptness, and beauty Eylane put in her work for our dad's funeral. The funeral was beautiful. We were able to see our dad's physical form one last time with beautiful flowers all around. As for pricing, the sprays were around $50 - $100 cheaper compared to Mei Wo Florist on Webster Street, also in Chinatown. read more

Wow I had such a great experience at the Oakland Florist. I was shopping around and was quoted a $3.50 per stem for some calla lilies. I called another florist across town and was quoted $10 for the same flower. Uhhhh... I called back the Oakland Florist and was pleased to learn my order would be ready the next day. The lady on the phone was super excited to get me the freshest calla lilies straight from the flower depot. My order was ready bright and early the next day at 8 AM. A really pleasant experience, I will be sure to return for more the next time I'm in the dog house. read more

I needed last minute flowers to decorate a birthday party in a Chinese restaurant nearby. I had strict requirements since they needed to fit into flimsy pedestals. The owner, Elaine , helped me pick a bright bouquet and steered me away from cultural taboos which I appreciated. She did not try to oversell me nor did she make me feel bad for not picking the most elaborate expensive arrangements. The display was better than I had hoped for and they even delivered it for free since the venue was nearby. Check out the photo. It really came out beautiful. I'll use them again. read more

After being told to take a picture of the bouquet when flowers opened which I did Oakland Florist offered reimbursement of $16.95 only as a credit to their own company. Why would I want to purchase another bouquet from their company when the first one was horrible. Obviously the standard was not what they had advertised since they are giving me back money. It's a shame that they force customers to buy more products from their company when the company is not reliable and in the wrong. They have not contacted me back when I refused their offer. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE!!! And their service fees are a least $17.00 if not more on some products!!! read more

With less than two months until the big day, I was still debating whether I wanted to do my own flowers or use a florist. One of my bridesmaids took floral classes and would often do arrangements for centerpieces. She had done flowers for friends, so I was considering asking her. However, since she was a bridesmaid and busy with other duties, I decided to go with Oakland Florist. My parents and I went to inquire and spoke with Elaine. She was very nice and friendly. She went through the breakdown of the different bouquets and boutonnieres. The prices were reasonable. She gave us a business card and said that we only needed to contact her a week prior to our wedding. At that point, I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to use and was still thinking of what colors, but she gave me some good ideas and showed us her portfolio. After doing some research, I found a bridal bouquet online that I really liked. It was blue hydrenias with off cream roses. The bridesmaids and groomsmen wore the color of Bluebird, a shade of light bluish, purple, kind of a periwinkle. Our second color was the cream. So I decided to use the off cream roses for the bridesmaids and junior bridesmaid. Parents of the bride and groom would have a double purple orchid, while the aunties had a single purple orchid. Off cream roses were for all the uncles and carnations were for our helpers. Bunny and I met up with Elaine one week prior to the wedding with the order of exactly what we wanted. I showed her the photo of the bridal bouquet. Hydrenias are not typically in season during Autumn, so they had to be kept in water. She said that she would have them in water until the last minute. Then while putting the bouquet together, she would keep some water where the stems were, in order for the flowers to remain fresh. Although orchids were not in season, she said she would do her best to find everything we wanted and needed for our special day. We decided against centerpiece for each table, but wanted one for the head table. With so many things to get done in the morning, we were unsure if we could pick up the flowers that morning, so we were happy when Elaine offered to deliver them. The drop off time was one hour prior to our wedding at our venue, which was in Emervyille. That gave us enough time to distribute all the flowers and boutonnieres to our bridal party and families. One of my bridesmaid was there to meet Elaine and she was very prompt. Everything in the boxes were organized and easy to sort out. and When I saw my bridal bouquet, it was exactly what I had wanted. The head centerpiece was also beautiful. The boutonnieres were fine and the bridesmaids bouquets were nice. I wouldn't say they were the best flowers in the world or the most elegant, but they were pretty and simple looking, which , which is what we were going for. I would recommend Elaine and Oakland Florist for those looking for a florist. read more

I was a bride on a budget. We were going to do our own flowers for the wedding, and then a friend took us to Maria. We quickly threw the silly notion of making our own flowers away, because Maria's were sooo affordable (REALLY!!), and she was knowledgeable about trends, flowers, and what goes well together. For an indecisive bride like me, she was perfect. We wanted a wild, natural garden feel to our bouquets, and we got what we wanted. They were LOVELY. My husband and I both thought it matched my personality perfectly :) We also ordered boutonnieres, corsages for the bridal party, family and officiates, and a lovely hairpiece for me. They were ALL gorgeous and simply perfect, even though I didn't give her exacting details or had to tell her too much. She's experienced and she knows what she's doing. The best part was that it didn't hurt our pocket! I especially loved the hairpiece she made for me, which I had imagined would be horrible. Now that the wedding is over, I shudder to think of what it would have reaally cost us if we had attempted to DIY those ourselves. An important tip: When discussing flowers with Maria, it's important to let her know your budget and she can adjust the size of the bouquet to match that, so you don't need to compromise on the type of flowers you love but still get them at a price you love! She's a sweetheart, and offers little freebies here and there (especially when your order is large), oh and she'll call you on the day before to remind you (just in case you're so busy you might forget!), and the flowers arrived packaged prettily in boxes with covers. The only reason why this isn't a 5-stars was because my flowers looked a little dehydrated after being driven from Oakland to San Anselmo (about 45 minutes?) and I wish she had taught me some precautions to prevent that. But that day it was REALLY hot, so it's probably not her fault. Everything was still really really lovely though and they somehow managed to survive until the night :) read more

Maria is my florist at my wedding. I love the bouquets and the boutonnières she made. Her price is really competitive! She is very professional and knows the trend! The ribbon she picked for the bouquets exactly matches the color of my bridesmaid dress. Just my bridesmaids' bouquet is a little smaller than I thought but still looks pretty! : D read more

Maria is the best! I've been working with Maria for over 15 years on annual dinners for my professional organization. These dinners have over 350 guests and Maria provides the centerpieces for the tables. She has never failed to deliver. She was so good, I asked her to provide flowers for my father-in-laws funeral this year. Again, top notch flowers and fantastic service. Our flowers arrived well before the service and were exactly as promised. You can't go wrong here. read more

Another scam, not the worst, but still bad. I ordered a set of flowers for mother's day for my sister in law and I picked one "as shown" where the flowers where 2-3 times wider than the vase, so it looked pretty and elegant, and full. They did do a same day delivery so I give them that, but the flowers that arrived were a tiny collection that barely extended beyond a square vase. They were embarrassingly small, something that should cost $20, not $80. read more

Uncle was shot to death a couple weeks ago. Didnt have time to plan where to get flowers from on top of everything else we had to do. Stopped by Oakland Florist 25 minutes before work, and was greeted by Maria. I told her I wanted to order a floral arrangement for the casket.. with all roses. And she showed me a picture from on of the books. Picked out the color, and then ordered another foral arrangement for 100 dollars. I told her the story of my uncle, and she told me she would take care of everything. Floral arrangments were delivered to Grant Miller Mortuary on time, and they looked beautiful. Maria is a pleasure to work with; I was in & out of the shop less than 10 minutes. read more

Elayne at Oakland Florist was a pleasure to work with for our wedding! She was willing to work with us even though we had a smaller order (cascading bridal bouquet, boutonnieres/corsages) unlike some other florists which have minimum spends. Her pricing was reasonable (even on Mother's Day weekend) and presented many options for us. On the day of the wedding, she delivered the flowers at the designated time and they were beautiful! Tip: She was busy most times when we walked in and we ended up having to wait to speak with her, so we started making appointments which was very helpful. read more

this place may be cheap, but customer service i received was terrible. im assuming the lady whom i spoke with during my visits is the owner. she definitely needs to work on her demeanor. i really wanted to order a big bouquet for my mother as a surprise, not the regular bouquets found at safeway or trader joes. something bigger! so i looked up florists on my yelp app and this place popped up that had 5 stars and promising reviews. i happened to be in the area one weekend so i checked out this little, flower stand crowded, poorly lit flower shop to get some quotes on flowers. i told her id be back soon while i shop around for several minutes. i actually went a couple blocks away to another florist just to compare prices. 10 minutes later, i walk back and she had closed the door on me. she closed up her shop an hour early. this was a bad sign to me that this shop's hours are not consistent. i was actually with one of my sisters that day and we decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. she probably did have an emergency or something important to attend to to as to why the shop had to close an hour earlier than posted on her door. second time going in and she remembered that i wanted to purchase a large bouquet for my mom. she asked me what day i needed it by and i said soon in several days. she said she cant help me. then she went on explaining how shes going to be on vacation for about 3 weeks. i didnt understand why i couldnt have had another one of her florists help make it while she was on vacation because i did see other people who work there. disappointed, we walked out sure that shes really not into helping me out as a customer. and another thing that was bad was that she had these flower stands laying out, which youd have to be careful walking around in her shop. my sister almost tripped over one and she blamed my sister to her coworker in chinese pretty much how klutzy my sister was and she was going to have a heart attack if the stand fell. another bad sign talking down about your customers, in front of them! i guess its another chinese business where customers are never right because i do believe that it was her fault for putting the stand out, cluttering her sales floor. to me, its a lawsuit waiting to happen. she shouldve put it behind the counter or in the back for safe keeping if she wanted it "safe". read more

We had our loved one passed away recently and we've decided to go to Oakland Florist. We had no experiences and never had to deal with ordering flower arrangements with Chinese traditions. The owner Elayne helped us. She guided us with the traditions and suggested the writings on each arrangement based on who the arrangement is from. All the flower arrangements came out beautiful and delivered on time. We were glad that we went with them. read more

We had purchased flowers from Oakland Florist several times in the past. Although their flowers were never really fresh, they were acceptable. But the last time when we ordered sympathy flowers for an aunt's funeral, the flowers were WILTED. They looked like flowers recycled from another person's grave site. When we first saw the wreath at the service, we were appalled and ashamed because other people might think we tried to save money by ordering a cheap wreath when in fact we paid good money for it. Needless to say, we never patronized Oakland Florist again. read more
