The website says they have won awards for being good with kids who have special needs - they were not good with my son, who was just diagnosed with ADHD. The parent manual says they work with parents if kids have trouble in the classroom. They did not work with us, although the director did tell me that they worked with another child for a year until he went to kindergarten and ended up bringing a knife to kindergarten. It seemed like they favor kids who have been there for a long time or whose parents they know, I'm not sure. They did not appear willing to work with our son's therapist to develop a plan for our son, either. The director told us, "sticker charts don't work." I also didn't feel like they did much "teaching." My son did not do one worksheet during his time here. I did not see any educational work coming home. The children in his class seemed to bully a lot for such young kids. They called our son a cry baby and made fun of him for calling his mom "mama." The teacher is very experienced, but she appeared to be worn out or overwhelmed. The facilities are inviting but seem crowded and less than pristine. On the positive side, I will say that my son had fun with a lot of the activities they did, such as the summer luau. The director is pretty good at communicating with parents, even though I felt that she was either biased or dishonest in her communications with me. Bottom line? If your child is a fairly easy kid, and you aren't too focused on your child getting the best educational environment you can find, this school might work for you. If your kid is hyper or challenging like mine, this might not be your first choice.

Another dad, getting into his car, recognized my feelings and reassured me with a smile and "Don't worry. Pretty soon it will feel like family!" He was right. The Octopus Garden has become all three of my children's home-away-from-home. They feel safe. They are loved. They learn. They have good friends. It's a preschool where manners and kindness are taught along with the ABCs and 123s. It is a very special place, a place that is governed by Love. Now when I drop my kids off at The Octopus Garden, they run in happy! They are greeted with smiles and hugs and everyone is eager to begin the day. Each week they are introduced to new concepts, books, activities and are fed healthy meals. The dedicated teachers at The Octopus Garden have become our true allies in parenting. They are our friends and they do indeed feel like our family. My husband and I are comforted with the knowledge that our kids are being provided with the same care and kindness that we provide in our home. We feel so blessed to have The Octopus Garden as our preschool!

Food : We selected no beef as kids don't really enjoy cheese burgers/hot dogs. But even on the pizza days they were served turkey hot dogs and most days kids would tell us they did not finish lunch. After first day, they were not served milk on any day. I would have written this review if not for the experience on 8/7. One of our daughter fell from the monkey bars on her left arm during the morning recess Teacher or administrative staff did not notify us about the injury or let us know once we went to pick her up in the afternoon around 2pm. My daughter ended up waiting 4 hrs in pain and was given icepack once in that 4hrs. We had to take her to urgent care to find out she had a buckle fracture in her arm and has to wear sling for 4 weeks and no activities for 6 weeks. Extremely unprofessional and negligent staff with zero accountability! I will never send or recommend anyone to use their service

The staff are helpful, attentive, and they have so much love to give to our little ones. My two littles started at 9 mos / 1 year and they're now 5 and 3 y/o. My 5 year old graduated the Pre K program but uses the after school bus rider program and gets picked up at WSS with his sister - another AWESOME perk that WSS offers! We moved to Forney, and switched my daughter to By the Barnyard Gate in Forney (owned by the same family). I wish I could say that I love Barnyard as much as I did Whistlestop! So many of the staff and teachers at Barnyard just don't seem to care or want to be there. I NEVER get updates about my child's day at Barnyard, but I got them daily at Whistlestop! Everyone took the time at Whistlestop to get to know me, my family, and my daughter at Whistlestop. Now, at Barnyard...I'm fairly certain no one except my daughter's actual teachers know either of us. In fact, every time someone different has been to pick her up (i.e, my Mom, Dad, mother in law, etc...) no one has bothered to ask them for any information. Thankfully, they are people that were on the list...but what if they weren't?! Needless to say, I wish we could go back to Whistlestop in Rowlett. (We'll be taking my daughter out of Barnyard very soon!) Whistlestop Station in Rowlett is a Phenomenal School!

Her 2nd day there which was Tuesday June…read more2nd, I sent my father up there to check on her around lunch time because she had listed off a few reasons for why she didn't have a good first day there. After my father got there and spoke to my daughter, he called me and told me that a little boy had punched my daughter before they went outside to play, and then while they were outside playing the same little boy kept teasing her and chasing her and also kicked her water bottle across the playground. I was surprised to hear this because I hadn't recieved a single call from anyone at Pillars about any of this happening. So I called up there and asked to speak to someone that was aware of what had happened, and after being on hold for 5 mins a lady got on the phone and told me she qould have to call me back and before I could say anything she hung up. About 5 mins later they called back, so again I asked to soeak to someone that was dealing with my daughter being punched, teased, and her water bottle being kicked around the playground and the lady said that she had talked to my daughter's teacher and they all were aware of what took place. So I asked her why I wasn't notified about any of this happening, and her response was " we normally only notify parents of a situation if the child gets hurt"... So I asked her how would she know how bad it hurt my daughter when the little boy punched her. After she realized how stupid she sounded, she then said "oh I misspoke, I meant to say that we normally only notify parents about a situation if the child is bleeding or gets bruised"... I dont know which statement was worse, but they are both bad, and most importantly wrong. I told her that just because my daughter was not bleeding, or whether she had a bruise or not, that none of that matters and they should have called me to inform me in at least a reasonable amount of time. But according to both of her answers, I highly doubt I would've ever gotten a call from them to notify me that a boy had punched my daughter, teased her, chased her, and kicked her water bottle across the playground. At this point I was frustrated, and honestly wasn't going to keep my daughter around "adults" that were this out of touch with reality, and around people that clearly didn't really seem to care. So I told her that my daughter would not be returning ever, and then she started to get an attitude with me and then she hung up on me. So to all of the parents out there considering leaving their child under the care and supervision of The Pillars Christian Learning Center, I would advise you to seek care elsewhere if your child's safety is important to you. This all happened within 2 days of being enrolled there, I can only imagine all of the negative things that would've continued to happen if I left my daughter at that poor excuse of a Christian daycare. I would trust my dog to look after my child before I would ever trust anyone at The Pillars Christian Learning Center.

Then came the time to actually leave my 6 week old with the team and of course I was nervous. But after seeing how much love surrounded my daughter when I dropped her off, my husband and I are able to confidently go to work and know that our daughter is being cared for as if she was the daughter of each and every one of the team members. She is so happy when she gets there and when she leaves. As much as I don't want her to grow up and leave the classroom with Ms. Aida, Raaja, and Parachi- I know that as advances to the next classroom she will receive just as much TLC and great education from her next group of teachers. P.s. our daughter had her own art gallery at our home from all the artwork she does as part of her weekly lessons! We love it! This is the place for your kiddos. Hands down. We had two kids there and one graduated already but we loved the care she got. Our son still attends. Teachers are loving, caring, and really interested in each of their interests. They're open to fun ways to help the kids learn and give extra attention when needed. Anytime any feedback was provided they quickly adjusted to resolve everything. Overall we have been pleased with the dedication and love they truly provide to our kids.
