Really, what a headache! Even 9 months later. I called February of 2015 and said we'd like to look at homes in Oak Hills on the West side. We were very specific in our search area, I did a lot of legwork myself. I told Jerry our budget was 350 max, and since our search area was so restricted I knew we might have to wait a while for the right home. Between my significant other and myself we've purchased 5 homes. So this wasn't our first. We met Jerry on a weekend and the first flyer he showed us was for a home priced at 500,000! I asked him if he was kidding because this is 150 more than we wanted to spend. Of course we looked at the home and fell in love. Who wouldn't for 500 in Oak Hills. We made an offer about a month later. Jerry said he's been in the HD for 30+ years and knew all the right people to get us a good deal and hold our hand through the entire process. We felt thats what he was getting paid for, and we are busy professionals raising 6 kids, so we were going to let him work for us.
Honestly, I could write a book, but to keep things short.... the Home Warranty wasn't ordered correctly, the home inspection was a joke, the roof cert is an even bigger joke. I am going to the contractors board and filing a complaint against the roofer. We made the mistake of allowing Jerry to guide us. When purchasing a home, do the legwork yourself. The only thing you should use a realtor for is the legal paperwork. Take control of your home buying process, research, research, research and find the answers yourself. Also the home we purchased was listed and sold by Oak Hills Realty, another mistake on my part. Go with a realtor that has nothing to do with the listing. read more
