The greens are always in fantastic condition, and the entire property is truly a hidden treasure. But what really sets Woodland apart is the people. Every time I stop in to grab my cart key, I'm greeted by Angel. She is genuinely one of the highlights of coming to this course. She works incredibly hard, always has a smile on her face, and makes everyone feel welcome. On our most recent visit, we decided to add another nine holes. The weather took a turn, and I was debating whether to play because I was so cold. Angel actually offered me her jacket. That kind of kindness and hospitality is rare these days, and Woodland is lucky to have her. (And as a bonus, she makes an amazing Bloody Mary!) This is one of my favorite courses to play, and Angel is definitely part of the reason why. Beautiful course, great atmosphere, and outstanding service. Highly recommend!

That said, hats off to the staff at Luxe for treating me no differently than anyone else there that night. The evening started with a lovely buffet that included a nacho bar, both barbecue and dry-rub chicken wings, fruit and vegetable trays, and pizza. I highly recommend the pickle pizza, a delight I learned to love in the Twin Cities!! The chicken on the nacho bar was moist and very tasty. I also enjoyed the barbecue wings; they were meaty and the sauce was generous. When food started to run low, staff were quick to respond and the kitchen seemed up to the task as the buffet was replenished as quickly as it seemed possible. I was very impressed. I don't drink very often, and this night was no exception to my general rule, but I did sip my friend's tropical cocktail, and found it worth every penny because it was strongly alcoholic and very refreshing. Everyone in the large group I was there with seemed to enjoy the golf aspect of the evening. This was my first experience with a place like this, and it was fascinating to to watch. This is quite an impressive set up, and I'd be happy to go back anytime able-bodied friends are going.

It was once a wide-open field when I was in elementary school and when the center first opened in 1998, not much changed. Still a field, now with a small building, a long line of tee boxes, and some flags. As the years went on, the center continued to grow with the addition of a mini golf course and covered tee boxes (eventually converted to a near full enclosures). My first golf lessons as a kid were there and they still offer them today. Currently the center also offers club fitting, club repair, comprehensive pro shop, and optional add on ofToptracer ball tracking system. It might not be as sleek as newer ranges like the tri-level "Luxe" in Franklin, but the prices at Gastrau's are lower and it makes more sense for those with a heavier focus on improving their game, than a carefree night out with friends. Plenty of lighting keeps the range open day and night, while heating allows for practice during Wisconsin's harsh winter months. Swing into Gastrau's to polish up your skills or for a laid-back round of mini golf.
