I do think that the advertisement for 'all levels' of lessons is tailored more towards children. The adults I saw taking lessons seemed much more advanced. I had ridden on and off for years, and wanted to get back to basics because I lacked any real knowledge of appropriate technique. I was also interested in the emphasis on dressage because roughly speaking, it's about moving with the horse and using your body more than the reins. The acutal lessons itself made it clear how knowledgable the trainers were. However, every other aspect of the experience was negative. The indoor ring was busy with multiple lessons occuring at once and people tacking up the horses while trying to give appropriate space in close quarters, which is where I felt the most ill at ease. I was new to the space and the personaliity of the horses, and I didn't want to do anything incorrectly by spooking a horse or interrupting a lesson with a question. I felt like a nusience and a waste of their time. Other people seemed to be treated with more patience (like the parents of the children taking lessons and lobbying for their child to be put on a certain horse), but for some reason, it felt like I couldn't do anything right. I was there to learn and it was discouraging since I would drive 40 miles round trip for each lesson.

Southern Belle Riding and Ammie the owner are by far the best place to board and take lessons. Ammie is very detail oriented and can fix even the toughest habits the rider or horse may have. Daily she checks the horses to make sure everything is ok I never have to worry about them or my daughter in her lesson. There is not one bad thing I could say about Southern Belle!!

She attended for several months, during…read morewhich her therapist repeatedly canceled her appointments the same day they were scheduled to occur. Of course, the inconvenience this posed to both my daughter and myself was never considered. However, when our family suffered a sudden death, and my daughter needed a same-day cancelation, this organization hit her account with a $75 charge. Policy or not, this is bad business practice and goes against everything this company claims to stand for. We expected understanding. We expected support. Instead, it was all about the money they felt they were out. This also happened to be the time my daughter let them know she would be discontinuing therapy at Courage Reins because she felt they were not adequately paying attention to or addressing her mental health needs. While we were told repeatedly this charge would be refunded, it was not, and both our calls and e-mails were ignored. Never mind the likely thousands of dollars they billed our insurance, they felt entitled to an additional $75 as a punitive measure when our family suffered a loss we could not have anticipated. Beware. They pretend to care about the mental health of their clients, but it's really all about their bottom line.

We had met David Story, the co-founder and pilot for this new Utah-based tour company at a charity event, and after discussing our interests with him, and our desire for an all-in day trip tour of the Grand Canyon, we decided to fly to the less crowded West Rim of the majestic Grand Canyon. Flying out of a small by convenient Ogden Airport, we enjoyed an easy and comfortable 2 hour flight on the 5 passenger Piper Navajo PA-31 twin engine prop plane. The flight wasn't too bumpy especially considering the mountain ranges we flew over on the way. Exactly two hours after departure we arrived at the West Rim airport and our pilot walked us the few hundred yards to check-in for the tours, and we set off on our adventures. The West Rim is on an Indian Reservation so it's one of the few places where you can take a short helicopter ride down to the Canyon Floor. As a result we started our adventure with a short helicopter flight to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. This was breathtaking as we took in amazing views of the Colorado River and the narrow canyon walls on our 1000 foot descent. At the bottom we enjoyed a cool boat ride along the Colorado River and enjoyed the incredible solitude and awe inspiring canyon walls. After returning to the heli terminal we took the short shuttle ride to each of the three scenic spots which were less than 5 minutes apart. At each one the views were amazing, especially from the Sky Walk at Eagles Landing, where we took the short walk out onto a glass-bottomed walkway nearly 4,000 feet above the floor of the Grand Canyon. Breathtaking! We ended up with a surprise overnight stay at the Hualapai Ranch, where we enjoyed the bonus of Indian BBQ, a nice camp fire, a beautiful sunrise over the Canyon, and a really cool horseback ride along the Canyon walls. Our return flight was slightly quicker and just as easy although a little bumpier. It was an awesome trip! Thank you to our pilots, David and Bret, for making this a fun and safe experience and dealing so admirably with the minor issues.
