I would love to give a mixed review. The cleaning staff and physical therapists would get as many…read morestars as I could give. The facility smells nice, not like a rest home smells. Some of the other staff are also caring and kind. My biggest complaint is a lack of care for time of day. I have been here 2.5 weeks, and on 5 occasions, someone has come into my room in the middle of the night with questions or concerns that are not appropriate for that time of night. Last night at bedtime I declined a topical pain cream that was prescribed "as needed." It was the 3rd day in a row that I declined it. At 3:15 am a CNA walked into my room, turned on the lights, and started putting on gloves. When I asked what was going on, she mentioned this cream. I'm afraid I was very unkind when I told her I didn't want it and she needed to leave!! It seems they forget how important sleep is in the recovery process. Or they forget that just because they are awake and working, the rest of us are not.

To sum it up, I walked in with crutches and left without them (no, he didn't steal my crutches, haha!). I had hurt my ankle and I wasn't able to walk on it without pain, he took a look at my ankle, found where the pain was, and then he showed me exactly what bone and tendons were causing my pain on an anatomy app he has on his tablet. He then did all sorts of weird things to my ankle that I don't understand that physical therapists do, and then he taped it with a knob inside the tape to help keep my cuboid in place. After that, I was able to walk without my crutches. Absolutely amazing! All my other injuries have been treated with care, humor, understanding, thoroughness, and speed. I will never like the ASTYM treatment, but dang it, it WORKS. hahaha! If you have an injury, go see him, he's a miracle worker!

We kids and her had just had an experience at another skilled nursing facility (SNF) where she recovered from pneumonia. Every aspect of that encounter was abysmal. So when Mom broke her hip, we scouted several Utah County SNFs, looking for a better situation. We were greatly rewarded! What we have to say about Pointe Meadows is based on more than a month and a half of constant, 24/7 observation of Pointe Meadows staff because we kids took turns staying with Mom in her two-bed room and never left her side. Here are our grades: Day-in day-out, night-in night-out care: 10 Staff Timeliness: 9 Staff Cheerfulness: 10 Staff Kindliness: 10 Staff Encouragement: 10 Staff General Attitudes: 9 Nursing Competence: 9 "Anything more I can do to help?" 10 Daily Housekeeping: 10 Room Quality/Physical Environment: 10 Common Area Housekeeping: 7 Breakfasts: 8 Lunches: 5 Dinners: 3 Physical Therapy: 10 Occupational Therapy: 8 Brain Therapy: 9 Courtesies toward Mom's Kids: 10 Attentiveness to Mom's Kids' concerns: 10 Assistance with insurance issues: 10 The accommodations were top-flight. Large room. Room air conditioner worked flawlessly. Excellent lighting. Good beds. Plenty of storage, even for kids' things. Two TVs (one did not work). The ceiling in Mom's room was about fifteen feet high so her room felt spacious. If our lodging could have been improved, we would have had a small refrigerator and an air purifier in our room. (We provided those things.) A few staff deserve special commendation: Tristan Foy was one of Mom's certified nursing assistants. He was superb: always upbeat, knew what to do, how to do it very well, consistently went above and beyond, was a pleasure to interact with, and always deflected well deserved praise. Also, Pam Magliocchino, a physical therapist, was terrific. From the first day, she displayed amazing knowledge about how to deal with Mom's unique circumstances and needs. She too performed in a highly professional and effective manner. Dave was another top-flight physical therapist. All things considered, we have nothing but praise for Pointe Meadows.
