Okay, simply put...this is absolutely awesome. This path, the rich history behind it, the scenic beauty, the friendly deer...wow. Color me absolutely impressed. Oak Forest Heritage Preserve is a true diamond in the rough.
This morning, my husband and our three year old (thankfully in the jogging stroller, as we wound up being out a bit longer than we intended) set off to explore the OFHP. Suffice to say, we were NOT disappointed. I uploaded a number of pictures from this morning (10.19.16) and they don't really even do it justice.
Here's something wildly interesting...have you heard of Potter's Fields? In my almost 36 years of life--most of which have been spent in the OF--I had no idea this even existed. As many as 90,000 people are buried near/next to this path. 90,000 people! Mind.officially.blown. Check one of my uploaded images for more information. That's another awesome thing about this trail...there's quite a bit of information available at various points throughout the path, usually by a set of benches. There's a modest pond. There are different legs to the trail (some paved, some gravel). There are small bridges. This is truly a hidden gem. An easy five stars, seriously. Check it out! read more
