When we found the Applied Scholastics Curriculum we knew we had found something special. We came to Oak Crest Private School when our son was 5. We loved the ways the kids were encouraged to dream about possibilities and to think. We were fascinated to see kids at Oak Crest keep their excitement for learning in middle school and beyond. We learned firsthand why this was! Our son is now 14, soon to be 15. He is in his second semester at Hebron High School. It has been proved once again how our decision to give him the foundation at Oak Crest has paid off in spades. Our son enjoys learning. Due to Oak Crest teaching "How to Learn", he knows he can learn anything! If he struggles with some subject, and he has, he finds where he last understood well and goes back and revisits the information from that point. In each case he has a word that he has gone by that he didn't understand. Due to this practice from Oak Crest, it allows him to learn the material with 100% certainty, versus take a wild guess. Also, this prompts our son to get with his teachers on any problem he doesn't get correct, so he can clarify what part he did not understand. This sounds like common sense as I write it, however, what teachers and school curriculum actually teach a child not to go by a misunderstood word and implement this as standard practice? Oak Crest Private School does! This one factor has been a life learning habit that is priceless. It allows our son to excel in every single subject. Currently he sits on the A Honor Roll and was selected Student of the Month for English and Spanish class. He received 100 or high 90s as scores in all of his classes He has been recommended for Accelerated English class and is now in PreAp Algebra where has scored high marks so far. He was able to take the PSAT early his freshman year and due to his high score, was able to test out of STAAAR testing. This was due to the quality of teaching at Oak Crest. The other wonderful thing that we have noticed about our son now that he is more independent in High School, is his work ethic. Oak Crest does what is required to have a child learn the subject material and excel. This means handling homework. Due to this practice at Oak Crest, he is well equipped to handle the increased work load of high school and beyond. He wants to complete the homework to be sure he is understanding the material. Oak Crest Private School doesn't just teach the child. They teach the child how to learn, so they can be independent learners. They teach the child how to dream and how to believe that any vocation is possible, even if they struggle with the subject material, because you can learn anything by simply clearing the words to 100% comprehension. It becomes a matter of what a child's interest are, and not just want a child is good at. This gives a child so many possibilities to be everything they choose or be anything they choose. Oak Crest Private School also teaches leadership. By having the different classes (age groups) interact on a daily basis, this teaches natural leadership in kids. This was important to us, as he is the only child at home. Even so, he is a natural at being around kids and enjoys fully being around his younger cousins because of this school! (That speaks volumes as he has gotten into his teen age years!) I leave the best for last when I say, from Hildegard to the teachers and entire staff at Oak Crest, these are the best of people! The way the teachers care makes them more like family then teachers. They see the best outcome for each child and are able to spend the quality time as needed to ensure that desired outcome. This cannot be overstated as you can imagine what this does for a child's confidence and desire to learn! The relationship that our son has with his teacher is one of his favorite relationships. Although he doesn't think anything will compare, the experience gives him the ability to do his best to recreate that relationship with his teachers in his future. We are so grateful we made the choice for him to attend Oak Crest Private School. It actually wasn't just an education for him; My husband and I also got to learn/ re learn so many topics and subjects as he went through his 8 years at Oak Crest. This school is amazing! I have 2 children that attend. The class sizes are small and the children get a ton of one on one attention. My children are excelling academically and they are happy! They actually ask to say late and attend study hall. My children have an extensive vocabulary that is used on a daily basis. I sometimes forget that I am speaking to a 7 and 9 year old. It's just perfect !!!! I have two kids in the school 4 and 7 years old. Both of them didn't speak English at all. After few months they are literally reading English kids books and shortly after learning Spanish The philosophy is simple , full mastery of the subject to leave no empty holes in the child education. The teachers are very friendly and highly qualified . They evaluate each child needs and give them the full attention to succeed. What a coincidence... after conversing with the Headmistress/Director last week regarding me being instructed to remove my comment from YELP relating to my experience with Oak Crest school, a well in - depth compliment of the school from a "minority" surfaces after only having 2 comments over the past 3 years. This is beyond sad and far from being a coincidence ... From the cost of private schools to the daily neuoncies throughout the day, the last thing you should have to be concerned with is feeling unwanted, uncomfortable,  etc... from the people the care for your children and their education. There were some teachers that were great there though it starts with the leadership. From being told that my child need to be on a Gluten-free diet at the age of 3 years old to being given 25 minutes to have access to your child during lunch throughout the entire day is absurd.  Everyone is entitled to Freedom of Speech and what I'm exercising is my experience with this school. My wife and I both experienced/seen for ourselves these instances regarding this school. I personally would not recommend this school... read more

Oak crest private school is absolutely an amazing school my three kids have been coming here since they were babies pretty much. The teachers are amazing Miss Brenda is extremely nice and very smart, miss Hildegard the principle is very experienced and involved with the children. Ms. Peterson is very sweet and caring. Very impressed with the positive change in my grandson who attends Oak Crest Private School. Kobe is a very active 8 yr old that has a 24/7 high energy battery and was a challenge to all teachers he's ever had. But at Oak Crest he met the programs, the care and understanding that immediately calmed down. He stopped frowning and is doing his homework gladly. He comes home whistling and talking. After spending a miserable year and half in the CFBISD dual language program, I enrolled my daughter in Oak Crest Private School. Coming from a Montessori background, my standard were pretty high. I must admit I was a bit apprehensive, as I was not well versed in the teaching of Ron L. Hubbard. However, I must say my concerns all but dissipated within a week. Before entering OCPS, she was constantly searching for social acceptance, bullied, afraid to participate in class, would shut down completely if she 'gave the wrong answer' or was teased for any reason and had very little trust in her teachers/administrators. To witness this daily and the impact it had on her (despite all the praise and encouragement she received at home) took it's toll on everyone in our home. Naturally, it also effected my work. Now, my daughter looks forward to going to school. There are no more morning battles. Her writing/spelling has improved drastically. She is pushing herself to learn triple digit math, a unit they aren't even learning at OCPS, so 'she can make her teacher & mommy proud' (her words). Before joining OCPS, she count each page before attempting to read a book. Now, she LOVES to 'the big girl books' and attempts to read as many as she can to fill her reading log. I am no longer subjected to tales of bullying, which I never expected to encounter in elementary school. I've stop counting the number of times she asked my to wait so she can finish her final 'study hall' (yes, they actually learn and get homework assistance in day care!) assignment. What's more amazing, many times it's an upper classmen (who is also staying late) that's helping and encouraging 'as they have been there' (that's a direct quote from a 9 year old BTW) her. The teachers are compassionate, patient, and genuine invested into seeing each child succeed. She's not anxious anymore. I'm not stressed trying to figure out how to 'fix it.' It's like our household is finally at peace. To see her confidence soar, observe her challenging/motivating herself and just 'fit in' ALL IN ABOUT 3 MONTH is priceless. Honestly, I can't tell you how many times I've cried tears of joy. I can't even talk to the head mistress without wanting to tear up. This experience has truly been a blessing. If you have a bright child, this may be the school for you! Oak Crest has a rigorous, demanding curriculum and bright, responsible students excel here. Class size is small with plenty of one-on-one attention for every child. My son has been at the school 2 years and he is already several grades ahead of his friends in public school - and he LOVES to learn, go to school and be an active part of his class. And bad behavior is not tolerated so students learn by example and encouragement how to be polite, respectful and courteous to adults and their classmates. Oakcrest Private School provides children with a curriculum that ensures the student will successfully master every aspect of the subject that is being taught to them. The children are encouraged to explore and question. The classes are small so when a child is not understanding something it is not overlooked by the teacher. Children do not fall behind or "slip through the cracks". The homework given is graded an not considered complete until every question or problem is correct. The teachers hold every child to the same expectations and rules, however creativity and independent thought is highly encouraged. Art and music are incorporated into the learning process.
