Great tour; had a wonderful night; would recommend and would definitely go back again

I am so thankful I found Oahu Private Tours. The best part of Oahu Private Tours is the fact they are small and give personal attention from start to finish. They made a change at the end of the tour that made the whole vacation very special for my wife. After booking on-line for the "private adventure tour" we were contacted by the owner Jason. He confirmed what we had booked, snorkeling and a hike to a waterfall, and gave us additional information on what to expect. I contacted Jason a day later letting him know we had already spent a day snorkeling and was wandering if we could do something else. Without hesitation he mentioned a couple other ideals and made the changes. We were picked up (on time) at our hotel by Arielle, our tour guide. She was awesome! We asked if we could swing by a coffee shop due to waking up late. She took us to a local coffee shop and not one of the "big chain stores". On the drive to the hike to the water fall Arielle took the time to find out a little about all four of us and gave us a little history of the island. The hike to the water fall was beautiful. We did not see one other person on our hike in. At the water fall there was only a couple other people. We spent some time swimming and taking pictures.  Then she had us climb along the side of the water fall to a second level. No one was at this water fall.  It was our own little provide oasis. For lunch Arielle took us to another little local place that was amazing. Not a place any large group tour could go to. During lunch my wife mentioned we had come to the island with friends 15 years ago. They took us to a place that had tide pools. It was one of the best memories she had of the island. We knew the general location but not how to get there. Arielle contacted Jason and ask if he knew of the pools. Jason seems to know ever inch if the island and gave her exact location through a text. It was not the easiest place to get to, but Ariel did it. It brought back memories for me and my wife that we are forever grateful for. If you do ONE thing on your Hawaiian vacation, make it Oahu Private Tours. Seriously, we did more unbelievable things in our eight hours together than I did during the other eight days I was here. I found OHP on Instagram, where I fell in love with their vibes. (If you haven't seen their 'gram, you should check it out, it's gorgeous and gives you a great idea of the types of experiences they offer). I had a day to kill on Oahu by myself and knew I wanted to "see the island," but wasn't really sure what that meant. I knew I didn't want to be one of 80 people on a giant tour bus, or even one of 12 people in a minibus, or heck, even one of 6 people in a van! I had one day and I wanted to do it my way. I appreciated that the team was very communicative leading up to my trip (answered emails promptly, checked in a few days before with more details, etc). The night before, my guide (Jason) asked me if we could start a bit early, 7am. I said sure, and I'm really glad I trusted his suggestion - the early start helped us get to attractions before small parking lots filled or before beaches got crowded, so the whole day it was like every place we visited was on a private island we had all to ourselves. Jason was friendly, easy going, and super fun. I was on the tour by myself, but there was never an awkward pause- it was like we were old friends from the moment he picked me up. He was incredibly flexible all day. For example, I hadn't had time for breakfast, so he took me to a cool local spot for coffee and hot malasadas (basically just extra crispy perfect donuts - mine was rolled in cinnamon sugar with filled with coconut cream). Over breakfast, we made a plan based on what I'd already done on the island and what I hoped to do, and set off for the North Shore. Our first stop was cliff jumping. The beach was gorgeous: completely empty, with gold sand, black rocks, and light green water. Jason led to the spot and gave me instructions. It was scary, but awesome! He was also a spectacular photographer, capturing amazing portraits, action shots, and enviable Instagram pics. We were going to head to a waterfall, but I was really enjoying floating in the water on the empty beach."You're lovin' the water? No problem, let's find more water!" And just like that, on a whim, our plans shifted. We hit a gorgeous beach with shallow water, and got to enjoy the sand and sun. I splashed around, enjoyed the rays, and relaxed before the next adventure. Next was snorkeling. Jason knew exactly how to get through the waves ("ready? we wait for this set to finish, then we go") and swim between the black and tan rocks out to the deep cove. It was full of fish and much less crowded than my last snorkeling destination. Our last stop was a highlight: swimming with TURTLES! Probably the most memorable thing I've ever done. It was incredible, swimming alongside these graceful, giant creatures in their natural habitat. Finally, the day ended with a stop at an AMAZING local taco stand. The whole day was incredible. We had a super laid back and amazing tour today with a great guide Kenny! We started off with warm Hawaiian/Portuguese Custard Donuts and then a local coffee plantation stop to pick up some coffee. Afterwards, we were off to the North Shore to see a couple awesome beaches including the Pipeline. He took us to an ancient temple site with a great view and then off to a hike to a waterfall with a small spot for canonballs. We then concluded our day at a good ramen joint. Kenny recently completed his Bachelor's degree and was a wealth of information. To me, as a small business owner, his hospitality and ownership mentality was evident and inspiring. You can tell that he truly loves his job and people as well. We could not have enjoyed our day more! Memories were made and it was magical. After a couple days in Waikiki it was nice to get out into the countryside. Mahalo! read more

Zero stars! We booked our trip in January, and it's April. We have been waiting for our tour guide to pick us up for an hour. No one answers the phone, no one emailed me back, no one has called. Their website claim "best of", but I am thinking worst might fit. Now that I have left a bad review, is anyone going to call? read more

We are so thrilled with our day and guide Justin! He was so accommodating, knowledgeable, welcoming, and personable. He picked us up in a very new and sparkling clean minivan that was large and comfortable. He first took us to get Portuguese donuts at a food truck and they were wonderful. Then he took us to a coffee farm as we all mentioned we liked coffee. We then went to snorkel at Shark's cove and he provided the mask and snorkel. He was kind enough to hold on to our valuables while we snorkeled and gave us instructions on where to go. When we got out of the water he handed us our towels which was so kind of him (little things go a long way). Afterwards we went on a small walk to Waimea Falls which was beautiful and he took lots of photos for us. While on the walk he was extremely knowledgeable about the plants and former Hawaiian royalty. Then we got to go to Waimea Bay. Finally, he took us to a food truck lot where there were several different types of food trucks and we ate there. He was kind enough to extend our tour an hour as we had gotten stuck in traffic earlier. We are a quiet group but he was very interactive and kept talking to us which I appreciate. His amount of knowledge was impressive as he had answers to all our questions and informed us of things we were passing on the regular. He also was extremely kind to any service person (food truck workers/ ticket sellers /etc) we came into contact with which speaks a lot about his energy and personality. He always referred to us as friends and family which was so welcoming. Justin was undoubtedly the greatest guide we have ever had and we would recommend him to anyone coming to Oahu! We did two tours with Justin, had a great time and learned a lot about Oahu. First we did the south side of the island, and then the north side of the is. and. We learned about the history of Oahu, and talked about the future of Oahu. Talked about the different birds that live on Oahu. The tour provided transportation, towels, and snorkel equipment (but we did bring our own towels and snorkel equipment). We ate some really good local food and had some Hawaiian coffee. One highlight was a hidden lava tube that we climbed through and had a great view. I think this lava tube was kind of a secret destination, because there were a lot of people in the area, but we were alone for this view. Both days we went past the end time as Justin wasn't a clock watcher, so we appreciated that. I would recommend OPT if you're visiting Oahu. read more

I researched and found OPT on Tripadvisor. We booked our North Shore tour with Jason before arriving on the island. He was wonderful with communicating via email and phone. There were 7 of us and their van fits 6 people. Jason had his tour guide bring his wife's personal van so we can all be together. A private tour with Oahu Private Tours is so much better than a bus tour where you're stuck with so many other people and on a schedule. OPT tailors the tour to your group, your likes and dislikes and if you're enjoying the activity you can stay longer (and vice versa). Jason is a rare, one of a kind business owner who doesn't just care about making money. He cares very much about his customers and their satisfaction!! My husband and I took the Circle Island Tour with KC as our guide. We had a great day - stopping at places we were interested in, following KC's lead on places we should see, and moving at the pace that was right for us. KC was very knowledgeable regarding the island and all of our stops. She had great suggestions for lunch and snacks too. Great way to explore the island! read more

I emailed Jason about doing a tour and gave him the dates. He responded days later asking a couple follow up questions and I said sounds good let's book it. Then no response for 5 days. So I emailed again just to follow up and make sure the email didn't get lost in cyberspace. Again no response. One more try a week later and nothing. I wouldn't waste your time with this company, find a place that actually cares about the experience and taking the time to talk to new clients! read more

Nikki was our tour guide for the North Shore tour. Wow, she was energetic, thoughtful, wonderful and an awesome historian. Within minutes of meeting her, we knew Oahu Private Tours was the right choice. She made our day adventurous and fun. We felt a family member was giving the tour rather than someone we just met. Nikki has the Aloha Spirit for sure. We enjoyed every stop and wished the tour would never end. That's the impression Nikki left in our hearts. We had a fantastic day on the Circle Island tour. We requested to stay away from the big crowds and spent more time near the North Shore. It was such a great way to see the island for the first time. Our guide Nikki was fantastic! She showed us spots that I know we would have never gotten to see otherwise. She was so patient when I basically had a panic attack at the beginning of our snorkel experience....I did get over it and had a wonderful time! Even saw a sea turtle! I highly recommend! read more

We did both the South and North Sightseeing Tours and had a wonderful time. It was our first time to Hawaii and served as a great intro to the island. We learned some really interesting stuff and it helped us get our bearings and better plan the remainder of our trip. Plus, it was really nice to have a tour where you weren't a number on a bus and didn't have to worry about getting around, where to park, etc. Do yourself a favor and book a tour! read more

Our North Shore hybrid tour tour was amazing! (2 sisters in our 20s) We had a great day with Jason (and Mariah, who was training). Tip for the cliff jumping: don't stand up there and think about it, just jump! Otherwise you'll get freaked out. We had some awesome food (malasadas, acai bowls, shave ice), spent some time sightseeing and visiting beaches, and overall had a fabulous time. You really do feel like a local by the end of the day. I would say it's better to do this kind of tour at the beginning of your trip, since you learn lots of useful info - for example, how to avoid getting pummeled by a wave, how to tell the difference between good and bad shave ice, etc. Highly recommend :) read more
