I tried a used foldable bike and it was ok, maybe, but reminding me of how uncomfortable biking has been for me, not liking a ten speed riding position, balancing, seat height, handle bars awkward to reach, all the things that make me prefer walking! It had 6 speeds but no way to switch the gears. So wanting to follow their enthusiasm and tweak the seat height and the handlebar position we chatted awhile about all kinds of fun things with music, and riding as new gear switches and cables and magic transformed this potential bike into a sweet ride. It felt like a different bike- smooth, easy, I actually said out loud, "I Love it, sold." I love that they're nearby and if the bike needs any adjusting I can bring it to them. They were so fun and kind. I will be back to visit just to say 'ello. Thank you my new friends!

They are located right on the bike trail, which is super convenient. We rode from Northampton to Amherst for lunch and made a few stops along the way. The trails are great by the way. It was a 90 degree day, so having pedal assist was not only fun, but a much needed break. This means riders of all skill/fitness levels can enjoy the trails. I had walked in about 10 minutes before closing and the guy up front (John, the store manager and head mechanic) gave me all the attention and professional courtesy that is sorely missing in many businesses these days. Even with the time crunch (he had to make an doctor's appointment right after), he helped me pick out a used crankset for my wife's commuter bike and I left the store 15 minutes later without feeling like I was rushed or given sub-par effort. Now that's what I call service. In my subsequent visits to the store, I got a better feel for how the business is run and what can be expected from them. When it comes to repairs, John is as upfront and honest of a mechanic as you can hope for. There is a fear in many customers from hearing horror stories of mechanics taking advantage of their ignorance and milking out as much cash as they can get away with. Having a good deal of experience with bicycle maintenance myself, I can definitely say that you get what you paid for, whether it be bikes, parts or service. You won't get $100 goods for $10, but you won't get $10 goods for $100, either. Comparatively, the parts and labor costs are very reasonable. I've paid more for less at other shops. There is also a great selection of new and used parts that customers can browse. Rims, bike seats, shoes, racks, brakes, gears, you name it. If you have the right tools and know how, you can buy the parts and install them yourself. Not a bad place to start looking for certain items where the line between new & used grows thin after a short while. Like with any kind of maintenance, I'd rather there be none to be done. But when the need arises, I'll definitely be doing it here at Chandler Bikes.

Well, I had a brake emergency last night... called fist thing this morning, brought it in half hour later, had breakfast down the road and picked up a few things at the market in town. Went back less than 90 minutes later, new cable installed, everything else in the brake system was cleaned up and adjusted, brakes working better than when the bike was new a year ago. On the way out I got some maintenance advice, and some suggestions for new tires. All for about $35. Most important for me as a daily bike commuter (ie my primary transportation), I know I can call them up and if at all possible they'll fit me in same day. Priceless! Thanks folks!

I came in looking for one of those newfangled "wireless" bike computers. I like to keep a record of all my rides so I can keep track of trail conditions, my stats for the ride and dogs who like to chase bicyclists. (I'll admit encountering a rambunctious canine is a great way to develop a fast sprint !) I purchased one if the Cateye cycling computers which was reasonably priced and has an easy to read display when riding. Now I am monitor my current speed, distance traveled, average speed for the ride, elapsed time and several other features. The computer mount was easy to install as was the sending unit which went onto the fork. I'm very pleased with the computer ! I also had one of the employees show and explain to me the difference in the pedal binding systems. It's a little late in the season for me to invest in a dedicated pedal / shoe system but I'll be back for them come springtime. It won't be that long before I come back though, because I need new cross country ski boots ! Great shop for all you ski and cycle needs !

I visited this shop early on a Saturday morning. I had gotten a tune-up at a bicycle shop in the Greater Boston area in preparation of cycling Vermont Route 100, and picked up my bike on Friday night (the night before I planned to leave). When I brought it home (and after the shop had closed) I found that my bike's chain was making noise in certain gears. I tinkered around with the derailleur to try to fix the problem, but to no avail. I feared that my Vermont trip would have to be cancelled. I decided to try to find a shop in Brattleboro, my planned starting point, and selected this one because it opened the earliest. I visited there early on Saturday, explained the issue, and immediately was introduced to a mechanic (I asked for his name but have since forgotten it, unfortunately). He kindly and patiently explained what he was doing as he went through his evaluation to diagnose the issue, and invited me to stand alongside him to watch and learn. Within minutes, he deduced that the height of the derailleur was incorrectly adjusted by the previous mechanic, causing the chain to rub in high gear. He made the correct adjustment and it worked perfectly. Amazingly, he didn't even want to charge me more than $10, although I insisted on giving him that and then some for his help (and for basically saving my trip). I love cycling, but I know that visiting bicycle shops can be a frustrating process. Many bicycle mechanics seem to delight in making the customer feel ignorant. Here, the mechanic was not only skilled and instructive, but he was completely without pretension. It is a shame that I live more than two hours away from this shop, or it would be my default for repairs. As it turned out, the mechanic's adjustment on a Saturday morning ended up saving my cycling trip, and the bicycle has functioned perfectly since.
