In Ireland, there is something called "Sunday Lunch", which you basically have a nice giant hot meal for lunch. I think this place is family run, as the "waiter" was a nice and hard working 13-14yo boy working at the same capacity level of 3 waiters and 2 busboys. (Not sure what Ireland's child labor laws are, but he seemed happy and at his own will) 12 euro got me a hearty tasty Cottage Pie(like a Shepherd's pie) with a whole bunch of sides, and included coffee or tea. The best part was the ridiculously delicious 5 euro Apple Crumble with cream on top. If you've never had the cream on Ireland, it tastes 99 times better than that crap in a can they sell in America. I'm sad I didn't take a picture of this Apple Crumble. :( Great place for a meal before or after a visit to the Rock of Cashel.

Yummy hake! Half portion was a perfect size.

Delicious homemade food! I highly recommend even though it's in a touristy location. Get the soup!

I found the surroundings a little less nice than one might expect for what was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in Cork, according to our hotel. It's essentially a prix fixe dinner, with multiple variations. Appetizers were excellent. A crab salad was delicious, as was the gravlax. The prawns in phillo -- which I thought were going to turn out to be some tired en croute dish -- were instead more like spring rolls, and they were outstanding. We had some time to contemplate the first course. In fact, a lot of time. In fact, an unreasonable amount of time. In fact, we had to speak the waitress -- twice -- about the passing of time. And when the second course came, it was a disappointment. A lamb dish was stringy; it reminded me of pot roast. My own roast pork belly -- typically a juicy cut -- was dry (no wonder they included sauce on the side). A dish of pasta and chicken was tasty, but it was pasta and chicken. I think there's a very good restaurant in here somewhere. But we didn't get their "A" game, regrettably. Much as I want to give it more stars -- and it certainly deserves 3.5, had the system allowed -- I think 3 stars is right, given the prices they are charging.

The lobster ravioli was to die for good. Honestly, I could've had two more and called that a meal. Superb!!! However I forged on to the main course of delicious monkfish and chicken and mushroom lasagna. Again, very tasty. The monkfish was perfectly seasoned and was delicious. The lasagna was a mixture of mushrooms and chicken puréed and placed between thin flat noodles. For desert I had vanilla parfait with strawberry reduction and sorbet. All was completely delicious. Don't walk, run to this little gem of a restaurant.

Campagne is really an *outstanding* restaurant…read more I can't give it anything but 5 stars. It is absolutely amazing that they have a Michelin, considering how difficult it is to get one (and considering how traditional the judges are :) ?) But they totally deserve it. Let me tell you why... I was on a day trip to Kilkenny and decided to give it a try. It was one of the best decision I took that day :) We went for the 3 course meal with wine. The starters were amazing. My SO had the Guinea fowl sausage with lentils. The sausage was good, but the lentils were delicious, with a perfect seasoning. Lentils can be a little dull, but there it was a pleasure for the palate. I took the Celeriac mousse, which can sound a little boring too... But was incredible. There were so many different tastes in this plate, with the hazelnut dressing perfectly balancing the acid and sweet taste of the pickled ear. The celeriac mousse and chutney were very interesting (and delicious). For now, perfect performance, Campagne! The dishes arrived quickly after, with a colloquial and very nice waitress. We shared the roast cod and the pork belly. Spoiler: both were a success. The pork belly was tasty, perfectly grilled. The plate was absolutely beautiful, and as good for the mouth as it was for the eyes. What was the best in this dish was the jus, which gave an incredible taste to everything, including the cabage. The roast cod was outstanding. Not only it was beautiful, but the piece of cud was huge and everything in this dish worked perfectly. The different tastes replied one to another. I'm usually not a fan of cauliflower, but I couldn't stop myself from eating the whole plate. The lobster bisque emulsion and cauliflower purée were perfect with the cod... All this with fresh food and skilled cooking, what else? The wine was exceptionally cheap and good (as a froggy wine lover!) We had the Mont d'Or, and it passed the test of filling our 2-month good-cheese craving. Creamy, tasty, decadent... Yummy! The dessert was also of high level. The chestnut ice cream was crazy good. The opera was nice but slightly lacked this layered feeling I love so much. However, I would lie if I didn't say that it was really good. The best surprise was the bill, which was of 32€ for the 3 course menu, and 9€ for 2 glasses of wine. Long live Campagne! Thank you for this delish experience... I'm already planning to come back!

I had the Irish steak & she had the hake. Both were excellent! For dessert the creme brûlée was great, as was the "exotic financier" (a coconut sponge cake). The atmosphere is cozy & romantic. Only complaint was the service was a bit slow, but we ate late and have American ideas in a European place. Highly recommended if you want a great meal in Waterford!

Considering this is often regarded as one of, if not the best, fine dining restaurant in Waterford,…read moreI found the food to be pretty mediocre and underwhelming. I ordered the "Early bird" three course menu for ~29€ which I hope would not affect their usual quality. I started with a creme broulee of crab, intrigued by the fact a creme broulee could be served as a savory starter. It was fine, pretty standard fare but really nothing distinctive. For the main course, I had the steak (which was 4€ extra) and that was honestly pretty disappointing. It came in what I can only describe as gravy. The slab of meat, while cooked to a medium-rare as I requested, was soggy and over-tenderized and when drenched in that sauce just all went down like a heavy soup. Taste was fine but there was just too much gravy-sauce! My friend had the chicken and she wasn't impressed either. In a turn of redemption, we reluctantly ordered dessert after probably being way too full and it turned out to be the best course. The sablé was fluffy, light, and just delightful when paired with a scoop of sorbet (it was to come with vanilla but we are partial to a more tart flavor profile so we asked them to give us sorbet instead). Very nicely presented and the acidity helped us round out the meal. Overall, I found food to be pretty mediocre and the service to be acceptable...(they asked us if we were ready to order probably about 5 times despite the fact that we had our menus open and was obviously reading it but otherwise it was fine). I'll just also add that I am a visitor to this lovely town so perhaps I am not attuned to the Waterford palette but I was personally not impressed.
