(Note: My tour group got here pretty early in the morning during off-peak tourist season in early March. So please consider this review with that background in mind.)
Food/Cost: (2) I ordered Rockhouse's homemade Scone (2.50 euros). It was nothing special. After eating three prior scones during my time in Ireland, I can safely say that the scone is a bit expensive for what you get. If you like crunchier scones then this one is for you as much of the scone is crunchy. They serve it with a lot of jam and the customary tab of butter. I suppose I would pay up to 2 euros for the scone, but 2.50 is a bit steep.
Ambiance: (3) In the morning, this place was quite deserted. My tour group was the only party there so I can't really judge the typical crowd that dines here. The decor is homey and welcoming but nothing terribly special; you walk up the stairs and see the cafeteria style food counters along one wall.
Location: (5) Rockhouse is located an extremely short, 1 minute walk from the Rock of Cashel. I'd say this is prime location.
Service: (3) The cashiers and servers behind the counter were courteous. That's about all I remember about them.
Overall: (2) If you are coming here just for a baked good, I'd say forget it. On the other hand, I took a look on their website and the prices for their entrees are actually relatively low. It is quite likely that this restaurant has hearty food for the price for lunches and dinners. Also, I imagine that Rockhouse would attract plenty of tourists during peak tourist season, which may greatly change the atmosphere of the place. read more
