This is a standard statewide rule for superior courts handling family law matters like divorce. https://selfhelp.courts.ca.gov/substitution-attorney 2) We met for 5m just to sign 1 paper that he is now representing me. 500 usd for 5 min. 3) Next time we met was only to hand him a check and let him know that he is no longer needed. While he may partially technically be right in terms of meetings only, think again if you like to have this kind of ethics follow you during your case and weather something like this should cost 1,500 USD.
