Our extended family, my son, his new bride and her parents traveled the Beara peninsula on Friday, May 4th, 2018. When we reached the harbor of Castletownbere; it was mid-afternoon; a light mist had begun and we were all starving.
Right in the middle of town - we saw O'Donoghue's & we decided to go in & see if they were still serving lunch. As luck would have it; they were. We settled into a cozy, cushioned booth and everybody ordered - a mix of cider and brews. Since the Chowder was made on the premises - we ordered it. it was great; came out hot & quick! Hefty servings with lots of flavor and a side of butter and homemade brown bread. It was so mellow sitting inside looking out on the square as the rain picked up. Our server and her husband owned the place and his mom had cooked the delicious chowder. We felt at home and they were nterested in us; even congratulating our newly weds who went home with a t-shirt to remember the place. Just right read more
