Queso.

Meh, just another mediocre Mexican restaurant in East Tennessee. I usually judge a Mexican restaurant by the rice, salsa, and queso. The salsa was typical of around here - no cilantro, no onions, flavorless. The rice was average. The queso was only cheese - no spices. I also wish more places had the thinner white tortilla chips. They taste far better. I got 3 tacos - chorizo, al pastor, and carnitas. The chorizo was adequate - but it's difficult to mess that up - you just cook it. The Al pastor was the same as any other place - average. The carnitas was a good cut of meat, but flavorless - no spices. I wish Mexican restaurants around here would use cilantro, cumin, chili powder, etc. You know - actual spices to give their food some flavor.

Great drink and meal deals daily! I love the variety of entrees that are different than other local Mexican restaurants.

They had several draft options and canned/bottled alcoholic beverages. I had the strawberry Suntory 196 vodka seltzer; it was good and reminiscent of Japan. They also had pool tables and darts. We shared the house salad with the creamy feta dressing. It was yummy with local fresh heirloom tomatoes and plenty of mozzarella. They have an extensive menu, but I had the pizza last time, which was really good, so both my husband and I ordered pizza this time as well. His was a 14" hamburger and bacon with traditional tomato sauce. Mine was a 12" Alfredo base sauce with ham, bacon, onion, black olives, and spinach. I typically eat gluten free as a preference to help with my inflammation, but they use a sourdough crust that is more easily digestible. The pizza was delicious; crispy at the back but just chewy enough to not be too crunchy. Our server did a great job taking care of us, bringing refills without us having to ask, and checking in frequently. The atmosphere is cool, having things local to Tennessee. It's a bit of a sports bar feel with plenty of big screen TVs on the walls with different games on. The kitchen is open and you can watch them hand toss pizza crusts and see the pizza oven, and the fired grill. Overall, we'd give it 4.5 stars and definitely go back again!

I love Bella! Given dining choices in Maryville, this is the probably my favorite non-steakhouse…read morehigher end dining spots. Their food is consistently very good. I especially like the restaurant atmosphere. It's very comfortable, upper scale and no matter how packed you can have a conversation with your table mates and everyone can be heard. The bar has most of the standards...even higher end options. It never ceases to irk me that they either don't carry Hendricks gin or are always out. Must try dish at Bella is Pasta in the Wheel. Fettuccine pasta flambé in a grana padano cheese wheel can be ordered as an appetizer or main course. Truly decadent!

For the appetizers, I really liked the presentation of the focaccia bread with a table-side drizzle of olive oil and with a pesto, goat cheese, and a bulb of cooked garlic. We also enjoyed the arancini, which is basically fried risotto. I didn't like my main as much. I had the mushroom rigatoni. As I'm not a vegetarian I had to try a side of meatballs which I did enjoy. While I really enjoyed the nuttiness from the toasted hazelnuts, the mushrooms were very chewy, almost as if they'd been rehydrated, and a lot of the pasta was pretty dried out. Needed more sauce for the rigatoni. I can see how the dish can satisfy a vegetarian option but it would also be perfect with grilled chicken. I took a bite of the creamy Tuscan shrimp and thought the shrimp was perfectly cooked and very creamy. And the pork chop with polenta had an interesting sweetness to it. While I wouldn't order my entree again, the service plus the other dishes makes them a 5 for me. You Bella believe I'll be back!
