When you take your car to a shop for repair, the best you could hope for is that the shop you take…read moreit to treats you fairly, does a good job, and they respect you and your situation. The last thing you hope for, is that they only want to get as much money as possible from you and they have little concern for you as a customer. I wouldn't recommend bringing your car here because my experience was bad, and I'll explain why. I'll also recommend the transmission shop that worked out well for me. I usually start any repair by calling a few shops to see if a shop can do the job and what they estimate the cost to be. When I called Transmission Super Shop, I talked to the Owner Joe. And He didn't remember that I had called for a quote about my coolant system months ago, and he had given me a quote on transmission.. The previous quote I got was $5500. And during this call he was quoting upwards of $6000. It was easily a 15-20minute call, because I was driving from Downtown to Santa Monica and I was parking in Santa Monica when we concluded. Most of the discussion was him explaining to me why it was so expensive. I could tell he was upselling me from the previous time we spoke. And it concluded with me saying, "Well I simply don't have a budget for that amount" A few minutes later, He texted me back, saying that he would do the job for $3500. I will include Screenshots. Already, I would consider prices that are based on the amount of money the customer has, a "Yellow Flag" if not a "Red Flag". But after discussing it with him, it sounded more like he was scaling the type of work to fit my needs. He was willing to do a repair, rather than a replacement. And seeing as how they are a transmission shop that specializes in that type of work, it made sense that they would be willing and able to do that. I said, I would think about it and get back to him. At the time, I was considering selling the car, and My lease was up on my place, so I had to consider the added costs of moving. Tough Choice. I did some budgeting, and Messaged him a few days later and he said that the price was only good for that week. Which, okay, that sets off some warning signals. Why would the price change in a week? Sort of seems like a tactic to pressure the customer into doing the job... And it was. But, I thought about it and later that week I asked him if I could bring it in on the following monday because rent was due and it would work better if I waited till another pay check. He didn't remember our conversation. He asked what it was about, and he said he deleted the conversation. I totally get it, customers come and go and you deal with a lot of people, but it wasn't the best customer service. You would hope that if someone gives you a week to decide, that when you call back later that week they would still remember the ultimatum that forced you to consider rearranging your life to meet. But as it turns out, that's not the kind of customer service and consideration that Transmission Super Shop Offers. It was inconvenient to him. He said it was okay to bring the car in on that date. When the date came, I actually texted to ask if I could bring the car in earlier. Once again He didnt remember. And he said it would take 2 weeks. Which was different than what he had said earlier. So I asked why. He no longer wanted to do the job. But you should read the text messages and get a feel for the customer service and get a sense of his thought processes and mine. Decide for yourself what you think of it. But I'll give you my impression and my takeaway, because that's what a yelp review is. An account of my experience of a business. As a means of helping other people with their big decisions when considering that business. My impression of Joe and the Transmission Super shop.... They want your money, they want you in and out. Don't ask questions. Don't be inconvenient. Don't waste their time. Every conversation was actually a negotiation. RECAP: 1. I called for a quote and he didnt remember the previous quote and raised the price. 2. I didnt have the money, so he made me an offer, but said it was only good for that week. 3. I asked if I could bring it in early, he said no, & it would take 2 weeks 4. I ask why, and he says he doesn't want to do the job anymore. But as a customer, I was always acting on the information from our previous exchange. And each time he didnt remember and changed the situation and seemed annoyed by my questions. In his mind, he's giving me a deal and I should just bring it in no questions asked. He wasn't understanding of my situation. For me it was a months rent trying to save the life of my car, for him it was annoying. When your mechanic is annoyed that you have questions, its a problem. One day it intermittently began shifting early and bogging down the engine. Leon's Transmission in Reseda told me they needed to witness the problem to diagnose it, but every time I brought the truck in the issue wouldn't show up. Eventually the truck became nearly undrivable, randomly shifting through gears and sometimes disengaging completely. I limped it back to their shop. The frustrating part: the diagnostic process required replacing the burned-out overdrive indicator bulb so the transmission computer could display a trouble code. It took four weeks for them to replace that light bulb. Once they finally did, the computer showed Code 42, pointing to a bad speed signal from the instrument cluster. I asked them to overnight the cluster to a speedometer repair shop in Bakersfield capable of doing the repair. It took nine days for Leon's to ship it. After the cluster was repaired and reinstalled, the transmission shifted perfectly, and four months later it still does. Their transmission work itself was flawless and fairly priced. My only complaint is the extremely slow diagnostic process and poor communication along the way.

I requested a brake inspection, which was really quick, turned out I had to get my rear brakes changed. They offered to do it the same day for a very reasonable price and less than 3 hours later, my car was ready. Joe has worked on my car for small items like brakes and oil changes all the way up to getting some check engine light issues fixed. Pricing is always great. Brought my car here for a diagnostic thinking the issue was one thing only to find out "no, you don't need that," and saved me a bunch of money I would have likely spent elsewhere. He didn't push me to fix anything that didn't need fixing and pointed out a few things that were old that I might want replaced so I just took all his suggestions because it's a very old car and it needed some extra care. All the five star reviews are well deserved!! Highly recommended.

I went in for transmission fluid change earlier in February in my Toyota Camry 2018. I bought OEM Toyota transmission fluid and asked Joe to help do drain and fill. The drain and fill was completed. After that there was a rough driving issues started. I went back to show my car to joe and he drove the car he told me he don't see any issues. I wanted him to check transmission fluid port on if there is low transmission fluid he didn't agree and told me I might be overthinking. I went to different mechanic in April and he checked. I paid $100 to reopen the port for transmission fluid and what we saw was no fluid came out from the primary port. He added 0.5 quarters left. The issues I have had for rough idle and need to have higher RPM on slope went away completely.According to him you have to keep the car running when you drain the fluid and you need to have it at the right temperature he said the drain and fill wasn't done correctly that's why there was still room for fluid. The viscosity of the fluid makes a difference in how much you can fill and drain. He double checked for leakage and there were no leaks either. When I went to joe and asked about don't you have to keep car warm to see if temperature is right? He said you only do it when there is a leak. I don't think Joe knew enough about mechanics of New car. I wasn't overthinking when I went to ask Joe for help and asked to recheck the transmission fluid. I paid $260 for labor only( $160 to Joe and $100 to another mechanic) for same job. It's really absurd. Overall this could have damaged my transmission. I think for future the customer advise should be taken seriously. I know my car well so I know when it's not acting good. I have been driving it from 10 years.

BEWARE - DO NOT GO HERE Vincent (owner) is a CROOK. I…read morebrought my car in because the electric power steering failed. It took him over two weeks to "diagnose" and attempt repairs. During that time, he replaced multiple parts that didn't fix the issue, then removed them, returned them to the manufacturer, and reinstalled the old ones (which has now caused the blind spot monitor sensor to fail). After more than two weeks without my vehicle, he finally told me the power steering was repaired. When I picked up my car, I was charged over $1,200. Before I left, he gave the usual speech about wanting customers to be satisfied and told me to bring the car back if anything was wrong. As soon as I turned the car on, warning lights started appearing. He told me they would reset themselves. Shortly after, I realized I could no longer control the windows from the driver's side, the blind spot monitoring sensor wasn't working, and several other issues had appeared, none of which existed before I brought the car in. I called him and returned the vehicle. He refused to take responsibility for the new problems that occurred while my car was in his possession. He claimed the car already had these errors, which is completely FALSE. He even said he has video footage to prove my windows didn't work (which his report from 2/14 clearly states otherwise)--unbelievable. Although he fixed one issue, several others were created in the process. Instead of addressing the damage, he accused me of "looking for someone to blame" and "trying to come up on him." He even told me I could sue him if I wanted to. All I want is for him to fix the other issues HE created. I requested a refund so I could take my vehicle to a qualified professional to have it properly repaired. He refused and insisted he had nothing to do with the additional problems. His own report reflects that my windows and blind spot monitor were working when the car was dropped off on 2/14. At that point, I knew he was a crook and was not going to fix any of the issues he created. Vincent, there is no need to respond by claiming I am lying or that my car arrived with all of these issues--it did NOT, and your own report reflects that. Based on other reviews here (which I truly wish I had seen before bringing my car in), this seems to be a pattern. Now my car is full of errors that will cost me a fortune to fix. I feel like a complete fool for taking my car here and dealing with this dishonest crook.

I'm updating this review because the business response is misleading…read more I have a voicemail from Steve clearly stating that they did not want to get involved with my vehicle because another shop had already worked on it and he did not want me to possibly "get upset at them too." That was the exact reasoning given. This was not about warranty. It was not about saving me money. I was fully prepared to pay for an inspection or any necessary correction. I was simply asking for a professional second opinion. If a shop refuses work because they're concerned a customer might "get upset," that raises serious questions about confidence in their own work. A reputable shop stands behind its skills and diagnoses issues regardless of who previously touched the vehicle. Changing the explanation publicly after the fact does not reflect well. I stand by what I said. I had a very disappointing experience at Automotive Instincts in Northridge. I called and spoke with Steve about looking at my car after another shop had worked on it, and he basically told me they didn't want to touch it because another shop already did the work. His reasoning was that he didn't want me to "get upset at them too." That makes absolutely no sense. As a customer, I'm simply looking for a professional second opinion or proper correction if something wasn't done right. Refusing to even inspect the vehicle just because another shop previously worked on it feels unprofessional and dismissive. Cars get worked on by multiple shops all the time -- that's normal. Turning someone away out of fear of a bad review instead of standing behind your own skills says a lot. Very disappointing customer service. I expected more professionalism and confidence from a shop with such high ratings.
