This is a beautiful, cozy cafe in Erfurt that serves Flammkuchen, German dishes, breakfast, and nice desserts. The bacon onion flammkuchen was flavorful, light, and wonderful. I also got the pork neck with fried potatoes and salad - the portions are massive, hearty, and delicious. We also got the cherry meringue cake for dessert but it was a bit too sweet for me. I was here 5 years ago - pre Qype, and it was with trepidation that I revisited it. What if it had closed? What if it had changed hands? What if it was shut for Easter? I needn't have worried, it was exactly where I left it, but a bit bigger than I remembered. We popped in for an afternoon coffee and cake to start with, and it was as expected - excellent. I had a cappuccino and a walnut tart, which was a bit like walnut/treacle tart - delicious. Hubby had apple cake with the mother and father of hot chocolates - imagine - a dark chocolate drink infused with muscat, ginger and cinnamon - after he recovered his socks, he had a big grin on his face. We went back this morning for breakfast, and I stuck to the excellent croissant, with butter and home-made confit (you can't call it jam), with freshly squeezed orange juice, and followed by a fresh fruit salad. Hubby had the bread basket (home-made bread). We snaffled a couple of pieces of the walnut/treacle tarty thing, which is at this moment sitting in our fridge calling to me. Shockingly horrible service ! It is a real shame because the location and atmosphere of this restaurant are nice, and the food is decent. But the staff... Oh boy. As a native of California I am was surprised by the average unfriendliness of service people in Germany, but after a few years I got used to it. However this experience was an all time low. When the waitress came to take our drink orders she used no more words than absolutely necessary. "was trinken sie?" ... "und sie?" ("what do you drink?... And you?" ) no smile, no "sure I will be right back with those" nothing. After banging down our drinks she stood and waited for us to order our food. My wife and a friend were not very hungry and decided to split a dish. In some restaurants they will happily split the food and bring it on two plates, or they will at the very least bring an extra plate so that you can divide it up yourself. Not only did they refuse to do either, but the waitress came and took the silverware away from our friend. We were all shocked, and our friend protested that she would like to use her fork, but the waitress gruffly replied "directions from the boss." and indicating my wife "she still has a spoon". I have never experienced such unnecessary and deliberate unfriendliness from a service person before. Whoever the boss is should think about his policies regarding who he hires and how they should treat there paying customers. read more

I guess I like the service the best here. Friendly staff, engaging but not intrusive. Good variety of cakes and coffee specialties. I had a breakfast at 1:30pm with no problem. Liked the ambience modern bistro in an old historic house. Black and white pictures of old Erfurt on the wall. This place is right in the middle of the old town with a good mix of locals and tourists. Several rooms including a cellar and 2 upstairs rooms with views down to the river. read more
