DO NOT GO TO COFFEE FELLOWS AT THE ERFURT BAHNHOF. Workers and management have absolutely no…read moretraining in food preparation (with avocados) or, more importantly, customer service. This happened once before at the Magdeburg location and seems like the entire Coffee Fellows chain is irresponsible with to whom they let open a franchise or run their stores. On the way to my train on Tuesday morning, I peeked into Coffee Fellows. Having been looked at oddly for asking for vegan sandwiches at the backer, I thought I'd try my luck elsewhere. I saw a vegan option - Avocado with Hummus. Sounded amazing! The server, who I later found out was the boss, was polite and made my order quickly even though no other customers were there. I asked for avocado on the side and he packed everything into a bag. I was so excited with such a great start to my morning. When I sat down in the cabin, I laid my bagel on the table and went to add the delicious, green avocados. To my dismay, I opened brown, more than overripe avocados. I tried to eat a few bites with the bagel, but they tasted like mushy garbage, and did not even resemble any sort of avocado taste. Then, I found a small hair! I was disgusted. Coming from California, land of Hass Avocados, we are avocado connoisseurs, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy a nice green fruit of heaven somewhere else. I was very irritated, to say the least, so I went back and asked for a credit. I received my money back, but only after the girl behind the counter called her boss. She defended her boss by saying that avocados become ripe extremely fast, implying in minutes they turn overripe. The next morning (today), the boss was working. I politely asked the boss why he gave me brown avocados and showed him the picture. He immediately was on the defensive. He actually told me that the avocados did not look like that when he put them in the package and that they get ripe really easily. So, I asked - easily, as in 2 minutes easy? And he said I don't know. He started to walk away and I kept talking. He said I'm not having a discussion with you now and walked away so I couldn't speak with him. Is this somewhere you want to spend your money? I think not.

I also got the pork neck with fried potatoes and salad - the portions are massive, hearty, and delicious. We also got the cherry meringue cake for dessert but it was a bit too sweet for me. The staff were a bit aloof af first, but were polite :)

I needn't have worried, it was exactly where I left it, but a bit bigger than I remembered. We popped in for an afternoon coffee and cake to start with, and it was as expected - excellent. I had a cappuccino and a walnut tart, which was a bit like walnut/treacle tart - delicious. Hubby had apple cake with the mother and father of hot chocolates - imagine - a dark chocolate drink infused with muscat, ginger and cinnamon - after he recovered his socks, he had a big grin on his face. We went back this morning for breakfast, and I stuck to the excellent croissant, with butter and home-made confit (you can't call it jam), with freshly squeezed orange juice, and followed by a fresh fruit salad. Hubby had the bread basket (home-made bread). We snaffled a couple of pieces of the walnut/treacle tarty thing, which is at this moment sitting in our fridge calling to me. Sometimes I wish I lived in Erfurt, but, waistlines considered, it's probably just as well I don't.
