Ah, NZ's. You let me down! I came in for my annual cheese curd fix over the holidays. Your curds were clumped! No one stirred them in the fryer. Thus, parts of the giant mono curd were raw inside. Raw batter! I'm feeling so sad now. On top of that, my mom and I tried to split a salad, but I'm a vegetarian and she's not so we wanted the chicken on the side. We were told the chicken in pre-mixed in and can't be left out. In a salad? Why? So you aren't doing things fresh? I'll try you again, but I'm disappointed. I've only been to NZ's a couple times, but I am definitely a fan! The first time we ate here we had the fried shrimp appetizer (huge, delicious shrimp), a good caesar salad with chicken, the beer-broth mussels (we keep talking about how I have to take my mom there for these alone), and my husband had the fried perch. Everything was fantastic! One of our fave waiters who used to work at 8th st works here now, and gave us the chef's backstory, which truly explained why a bar would have such excellent food. I can't wait to go back and try one of their grilled fish specials, or their weinerschniztel, and a number of other things! For a couple drinks each, and all the food we got, it was an exceptional value as well. I wish we'd discovered this place years ago! But, better late than never :) read more

THE BEST burger anywhere. Mushroom Swiss burger is a winner. Guinness battered shrimp are delicious. Friday fish specials are definitely NOT average bar food fare. Pork schnitzel sandwich is very tasty. Chicken cordon blue sandwich also tasty. read more

This my go-to place for great food at reasonable prices. This is not typical bar food. I call it gourmet bar food. Plus they have a nice selection of beers and wines to accompany your meal. Love this place. read more

We went for the Friday fish fry. They offered fried perch, bluegill, and haddock. We had the haddock and fries. The fish itself was outstanding, but we wished we had another piece. The fries were flavorful, but limp. The coleslaw was homemade, but neither of us liked it. The tartar sauce was set and full of relish; not our thing, either. Service was pretty good, tables were clean. The atmosphere was bright where people ate, dimmer by the bar. Lots of tv's with the baseball game on. Even though the fish itself was good, I don't think we'll be back because the sides weren't great and the portion was smallish. read more

Great place! I was in Sheboygan for a Friday night, had to get some cheese curds and classic Wisconsin fish fry. The beer battered perch was amazing, served with choice of garlic fries or German potato salad and cole slaw (homemade). The perch was fantastic, also came with homemade, in-house, tartar sauce. The cheese curds were easily the best I have ever had. Not the small, pre battered curds. Large and hand battered and fried to perfect crunch with a gooey center. Like the atmosphere here and usually you get good service and food. But, sometimes there is a glitch or two. They seem to have different cooks and bartenders every time I go in there so things aren't always consistent. Had soup one time, the flavor was excellent but, it was only luke warm and the little plate the bowl was on was ICE cold! read more

Attended NZ's for the first time to have their wing special. Service was superb, the chef even came out to visit with customers to see how things we're going. Plenty of wing sauce options as well. Considerably better than Buffalo Wild Wings or any of the other local restaurants serving wings. read more

This place is amazing. Only stopped in for appetizers to hold us over for dinner. Ordered the chicken nachos. They were amazing. The melted cheese was incredible. They won't share recipe but they were perfect. They have cumin sour cream on top and I don't know that I will ever eat sour cream without cumin again. We were in Sheboygan running some errands around lunchtime and since NZ's was close by we decided to stop in for a bite to eat. Brittany was doing double duty both bar tending and waiting tables. She was very efficient and quickly took our order. To my surprise, the day's special was a $2 burger. I ordered the burger and my wife had the Cuban sandwich. Both sandwiches arrived quickly. My wife's came with a very generous order of fries that we shared. Both sandwiches were delicious and Brittany kept us entertained between bites. All in all it proved to be an excellent choice for impromptu lunch. Try it - you'll like it!! read more

This place was such a find! Food is excellent! I had the schnitzel sandwich and it was one of the best I've ever had and I travel Europe extensively! They make their own chips too and they are fantastic. Too bad I live in LA otherwise I'll come over all the time. read more

We always end up here on a Friday or Saturday. Staff is good. Would have complained about the long island i got the other night, but the owner gave both me and my friend a new one and even 'tested' it before he served them to us. Amazing owner and fun place. I just heard about NZ Bar last weekend. Don't know how long it's been open. It's been remodeled by someone with interesting taste-loved the ceiling. Bartender was on-the-spot, friendly, smiling. About 15 of us, but no one waited long for a drink. Menu is eclectic. Several of us had the shrimp appetizer with a cabbage slaw and garlic-soy dipping sauce. Two or three others had lettuce salads with skewers of grilled shrimp on top. Everything was yummy, everybody went home happy. I will be going here again. read more

Stopped in at NZ's with 4 great friends. We have had a great day and are starving. One friend is a regular here and she highly recommends the place. Pre season Packers are on tv and we sit down to order. There are two bar tenders working and clearly we got the new/incompetent one. Asked the special and she said, "I think it's the ..." Anyway, I see the menu has some turkey sandwich options and also a Rueben sandwich. I love sour kraut, but corned beef doesn't sit well with me. I ask for a Rueben made with turkey instead of corned beef. Bartender tells me that she will ask. "the cooks won't make it, they don't like special orders"...did I tell you there are 19 people in the whole place? We are 5 of them. Anyway, food was decent, salty and greasy. The "special" was almost what she told my husband it was (but she omitted the fried egg on top?!?! ). But service SUCKED. I won't be back...and seriously, the crew I am with loves to eat, drink and tip huge. One round only here...and least that kept our bill unusually low:( read more

Went into NZ's on a Tuesday evening for a drink, and got carded, for 10 mins the bartender was trying to determine if my Minnesota license was a fake or not. When she decided it was "fake" she told me she was going to have to keep my ID. This is an authentic ID, and I am currently 24 years old. This was the first time being here as well, however I couldn't experience the whole aspect of the place because I couldn't be served. The bartender kept asking the owner, who was there at the bar, about what she should do. All in all the situation was handled poorly along with an extremely rude bartender. Pretty darn good. Nicely remodeled, solid selection of tap beers and very good "pub" fare. I've had the mussels a few times and although they vary slightly from time to time they are always great. I will go back. read more

What an excellent evening. We had servers/bartenders Jessica and Brooke. Very friendly chatty and great service. We had the perch fries. 1 each batter and breaded Both were very good. Homemade non creamy slaw and tarter sauce also excellent. German potato salad was outstanding. A bit different than I am used to made with quartered baby reds. Nice chunks of bacon and spot on to my taste. To top it off was a piece of red cake with cream chz icing and rasperry sauce. Food, the service, cocktails and laid back atmosphere made us feel very welcome. That is a 5 in my book. Cant wait to get back to try the spotted cow steamed mussels. read more

"GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT SHIT." Not really sure what there policy is with food carry-ins, but I'd like to express my concern with this establishment. I've never ben to NZ's Bar before, however, this weekend I stopped in with a taco I purchased from a food truck that was parked outside of their establishment. I went in for a drink as the food truck did not serve soda. When I approached the bar, I was greeted by a very rude bar tender who said "Get the fuck out of here with that shit!!!" I was amazed. I told him I just wanted to get a drink...He repeated "Get the fuck out of here with that shit." As a business owner myself, I may have said "I'm sorry, but we do not allow carry-ins." I would absolutely fire this employee on the spot if he worked for me. If you treat your patrons like scum, be assured, your patrons will be scum. I will never be back. read more

When NZ's first started their Monday. 25 cent wings they said they wanted to grow their Monday night business. GREAT!! We have gone there numerous times and all was good. However, they now DO NOT have the fryers to do any kind of volume. We waited almost 1 1/2 hours for 12 wings before we told them to forget it. We were told twice only 5 more minutes. Not a way to grow the business....just ticked us off! They could have AT least bought us a beer. So VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

My husband and I are becoming regulars here, most often on Friday nights for the fish fry. They do an amazing beer battered perch (and sometimes walleye), light & crunchy, served with garlic seasoned french fries and a nice slaw, not the typical mayonnaise mess. The appetizer list is great, including mussels, shrimp, and awesome homemade cheese curds. Everything I've tried has been good and the owners and staff are friendly . They keep a nice selection of beers on tap and are quick to offer a sample to the indecisive. This is a great little bar with interesting food. read more

We went there for the brats for which Sheboygan is famous. The brats were excellent and were served with a homemade sauerkraut (which I recommend even for those that shy away from that sort of thing) and a grainy mustard. The German potato salad is also a strong recommendation. Tap selection was varied and more eccentric than usual. Sheboygan culinary stops are few (the black pig is also excellent but they do not serve brats!). All this and the price is right. read more

This place is great!!!! I've had the Reuben, Mussels, Crab Cakes, and Pork Schnitzel, all of which have been phenomenal. Each dish is fresh with flavors that ooze a homemade vibe in the kitchen.
