The new recruits are friendly, helpful and not intimidating as in the past. I had a couple bad experiences about 10-15 years ago. Now when I ask for information I'm assisted. It's like when you teach a child the policeman is your friend. I wasn't raised that way. I was taught to be afraid of them. I'd be locked up. I still have a fear of imprisonment. Thus my name FreeBird. I try my best to keep the law because of my fear. I thank the police every chance I get these days. We lost 9 to suicide this year. I'm grateful every day that they take the job. They are so very very underpaid! Thank you NYPD. My heart and prayers go with you.

There was absolutely nothing going on, from what I could see. I doubt the person wasn't there. I came back the next day during the time they said the person would be there. Again, nothing going on. I waited about 20 minutes for someone to come down and do something that took about 5 min. I will say, people were helpful when I came in and asked me what I needed, and they did call the person who did the fingerprint cards within 5-10 minutes of me arriving. I'll give NYPD the benefit of the doubt and assume there was more going on behind closed doors than I could see; otherwise, I would have to say things looked and operated needlessly slow.

We had a convivial exchange that their 'arrival" could be 30 seconds to 8 hours; hence why I felt the need to be pro active. I explained to them the aspect of babies/toddlers in very scary scenarios and they seemed to relate yet were persistent in saying my community involvement was complicating and possibly intimidating. I didn't bother to voice that I am 5'1 and 115 lbs and the "party" included quite dramatic characters who threatened to shoot my dog. However, may I praise myself/my dog for staying until reality kicked in? I think the renter nearly sh$t his pants upon seeing my 100 lb dog at his doorstep. We had a standoff until the police arrived and I left (back to being chastised) and the music stopped. I'm "upping" my stars because the police officer seemed to genuinely want attendance at the Community Affairs Meeting. I will attend the next one and hope we can build a better relationship. Just as an FYI: I never call 311 or 911 over pot or drugs. All I want is a civil weekend. I believe you can have fun and notkeep your neighbors up 'till 5 am.

We have well over 1400 apartments in Four High Rise buildings. There's definitely multi resident in apartments or you couldn't afford the two bedroom. With the current economy crime may be on the rise but the data shows it's way down in NYC. I'm not sure about my neighborhood so I'm glad NYPD is showing their presence.

There's a metal gate separating the vestibule from the main area. Just walk thru. There's some haphazard seating but I was grateful for it. It's not going to be a quick in and out. They have to take down a lot of information by hand. Just be sure to get the attention of the officer on duty because there is no number system. Apparently there are people who just hang out there.... I'm not going to judge, it was pretty welcoming. Overall, considering what your emotional state might be coming there, you will leave feeling better for the experience.

The tenant's 70yr old Mother as well as 2 other beneficiaries of the Property all have Orders Of Protection against the tenant. With open court cases waiting to evict the tenant. I visited NYC for my child's Graduation. I was asked by my Aunt to help pack up things in my Gma's home. Unaware of any open court cases. I assisted my Aunt with packing things at my Gma's home. The second time we went; we were met with violence. I was attacked. Glass fragments cut my legs and ankles up. The next day Detectives were executing a warrant search for me in regards to a broken cell phone. - A broken cell phone! The Detectives were provided with statements from witness, video evidence of my attack as well as video evidence of the accuser/squatting tenant recording on her cell phone which showed no damages prior to the warrant being issued. Yet. I was still arrested. My case has been dismissed. I would like file charges for my documented injuries. Provide the video evidence. Etc etc I called the 24th Precient today. Dective Scott states that I can not file a report over the telephone. I am highly upset! I live in Arizona; so now I have to fly to NYC to file a report? Make arrangements for future appearances. This is very discouraging. However, I won't give up. I will be in NYC to file charges and a formal complaint!

There is only one precinct no PSA in the neighborhood. As a civilian I felt slighted and ignored and slighted by the people who took an oath to help the citizens of the community. It was annoying and fustrated to have to just stand around waiting to be assisted with no emphaty just didn't sit right. It took so much self control to not curse them out. Most of the hotels I've stayed in pretty much expect tips and the food is always a bit overpriced- not at Rikers. You can pay extra for "commissary" which is basically junk food and extra toiletries. 2. My vacation started at 100 centre street after two gentlemen and the court system as a whole, decided I should quit my gainful-tax paying lifestyle and spend a few years in the care of the correction institution of NY. Apparently, using prescription medication without a prescription warrants this. I was chained to another fine vacationer and we were swiftly taken by bus to Rike's. I give the bus experience 4 stars for value (it was free) but 1 star for the unfriendly staff. 3. Surprisingly great water pressure and shower temperature. 4. Very roomy and yet cosy cots. 5. The bread (served at every meal time) must be some type of local artisanal or ethnically appropriate recipe because it's unlike most store bought bread or any I've tasted previously. 6. The rest of the food is normal pseudo-American fair, pasta, beans and rice, etc. nothing to write about really. 7. Book selection for reading is average and I got a lot of reading done. 8. They have card games and chess/checkers, dominos etc for entertaining times with your new found friends. 9. Staff. The staff need retraining in customer service based duties. Especially the white shirted "captains". Not sure what they believe to be a captain of...but it sure isn't making the customers feel welcome. They often curse wear frowny faced scowls....it just generally seems like they don't want to work there. Every now and then (if your lucky) you'll get to see a Broadway type performance art piece featuring a neo-modern take on the classic Ninja Turtles. They come out yelling and cursing and telling everyone to lay face down on the floor....oh boy it's exciting!!! They prefer Donatellos character though using the culturally appropriate Bo or long stick type weapon. As a side note, I'd really like to see more variety in the characters played and such different weapons. All in all if a cultural diverse, but gender specific, lots of free time vacation is your thing (and by that I mean non-Anglo Caucasian) I'd say you'll love it.

We are on vacation from Australia, today there was a small protest out the front of our hotel…read more(Hyatt Grand Central), and we chatted to several officers about what was happening and how the protests are in Australia (Melbourne). Absolutely the nicest and most engaging people we have ever come across. We shared a few stories and told them about our police force back home. They were so happy to chat to us and share (limited information of course). We felt really comfortable engaging with them and they did a fantastic job at the protest too. Cool, calm and collected, out in force looking after everyone. Well done NYPD, you all did a great job. Really nice personable people.

New York City Police Department has really changed in my opinion. In the twenty three years I've…read morelived in Manhattan I have seen the attitudes of police officers turn from nasty to friendly, kind and caring. I always stop and let them know how I appreciate their service and presence. When I was at the Feast of San Gennaro this week they were present. They are at all the main public events I've attended. At the Feast they had a table set up for recruiting. The nice officer kept trying to get me to take a free pen. Make no mistake about it they are underpaid especially rookies. It's dangerous work and great benefits for those that survive. I'm not recommending you join the department but I am recommending them as they are currently treating me. If that makes sense. I'm glad they are around when I need them!
