The new recruits are friendly, helpful and not intimidating as in the past. I had a couple bad experiences about 10-15 years ago. Now when I ask for information I'm assisted. It's like when you teach a child the policeman is your friend. I wasn't raised that way. I was taught to be afraid of them. I'd be locked up. I still have a fear of imprisonment. Thus my name FreeBird. I try my best to keep the law because of my fear. I thank the police every chance I get these days. We lost 9 to suicide this year. I'm grateful every day that they take the job. They are so very very underpaid! Thank you NYPD. My heart and prayers go with you.

I had to get some fingerprint cards filled out for a background check for a job. I went later that…read moreday; they told me the person who does fingerprints wasn't there. There was absolutely nothing going on, from what I could see. I doubt the person wasn't there. I came back the next day during the time they said the person would be there. Again, nothing going on. I waited about 20 minutes for someone to come down and do something that took about 5 min. I will say, people were helpful when I came in and asked me what I needed, and they did call the person who did the fingerprint cards within 5-10 minutes of me arriving. I'll give NYPD the benefit of the doubt and assume there was more going on behind closed doors than I could see; otherwise, I would have to say things looked and operated needlessly slow.

We had a convivial exchange that their 'arrival" could be 30 seconds to 8 hours; hence why I felt the need to be pro active. I explained to them the aspect of babies/toddlers in very scary scenarios and they seemed to relate yet were persistent in saying my community involvement was complicating and possibly intimidating. I didn't bother to voice that I am 5'1 and 115 lbs and the "party" included quite dramatic characters who threatened to shoot my dog. However, may I praise myself/my dog for staying until reality kicked in? I think the renter nearly sh$t his pants upon seeing my 100 lb dog at his doorstep. We had a standoff until the police arrived and I left (back to being chastised) and the music stopped. I'm "upping" my stars because the police officer seemed to genuinely want attendance at the Community Affairs Meeting. I will attend the next one and hope we can build a better relationship. Just as an FYI: I never call 311 or 911 over pot or drugs. All I want is a civil weekend. I believe you can have fun and notkeep your neighbors up 'till 5 am.

Hopefully, that person's ID was returned to them. The 19th Precinct serves the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The precinct is one of the most densely populated residential areas in Manhattan. The southern part of the precinct has a large commercial area and features Madison, Lexington, and 3rd Avenues, which are well known for their shopping and assorted businesses. I back the blue as I know they don't have an easy job nowadays, especially with the city politics getting involved

We have well over 1400 apartments in Four High Rise buildings. There's definitely multi resident in apartments or you couldn't afford the two bedroom. With the current economy crime may be on the rise but the data shows it's way down in NYC. I'm not sure about my neighborhood so I'm glad NYPD is showing their presence.

There's a metal gate separating the vestibule from the main area. Just walk thru. There's some haphazard seating but I was grateful for it. It's not going to be a quick in and out. They have to take down a lot of information by hand. Just be sure to get the attention of the officer on duty because there is no number system. Apparently there are people who just hang out there.... I'm not going to judge, it was pretty welcoming. Overall, considering what your emotional state might be coming there, you will leave feeling better for the experience.

There is only one precinct no PSA in the neighborhood. As a civilian I felt slighted and ignored and slighted by the people who took an oath to help the citizens of the community. The fact that there was only one officer for the front, that was in the back for over an hour with someone who a detective came to talk to is insanity. It was annoying and fustrated to have to just stand around waiting to be assisted with no emphaty just didn't sit right. It took so much self control to not curse them out. This precinct should be investigated and they should be more than one officer to assist the front when people come in especially if the one officer is going to be spending an substantial amount of time with a person

He stole my laptop, docking-station, monitor, keyboard and mouse... but forgot the battery or the power supply. Then he went through everything else looking for valuables. A couple of cameras, some small stuff. An ice cream container from Buckingham Palace filled with British coins. I called 911 from my doorway. My door was open when I got home. I looked into my apartment, and my monitor was gone. I pulled out my Blackberry and called 911 for the first (and hopefully last) time in my life. The operator stayed on the phone with me was I walked from room to room. She was great. My bedroom looked like a cyclone hit it, and my Teddy Bear was crumpled under broken glass. The thief left the light on in my bathroom. I was very angry. Soon enough, a cruiser pulled up with two patrol officers. They were very professional and kind. I was still very angry. When we were walking through my bedroom, assessing the damage, one asked in a concerned tone "Is it usually this messy?" I resisted the urge to slap him, but then realized that these people see the worst of society on a daily basis. I said "No. I made my bed this morning before I left." As we filled out paperwork, their supervisors came. Three plainclothes officers, who were also very kind and they listened to my anger. I was advised not to touch anything until forensics came. I wanted a drink, and one officer suggested that I just wear gloves and have a drink. I couldn't do it. I sat in my chair and never took of my coat. At 11, a detective came to let me know that forensics would come in the morning. I slept in the sofa that night - still angry, I pulled some spare pillows from the closet, and my emergency heater and I closed the door to the bedroom. I slept well, anger is exhausting. In the morning a team of forensic officers came. They got a footprint from my pillow (size 12 boots - just like the guy upstairs) and a print from my desk. I was fingerprinted to rule out my own prints, and after they talked with me for a while, they left and I started cleaning. That evening, the detective who is handling the case came to visit me. He had called a few times during the day, and when he and his partner arrived, I felt like I knew them already. This is just a brief sketch of what transpired over my Friday and Saturday. The upshot is, the police were AMAZING. I'm sorry that they ever had to come into my life, and my stuff is gone. It may be a miracle that I can get it back, but my computer was password protected, the majority of my stuff was backed up using dropbox, and x-marks. Yeah, it's going to cost me some money (I don't have renter's insurance). If you stumbled across this review, take a moment and think about how your life would be affected by a robbery. Make a list of your stuff and their serial numbers. (you might on a long shot get your stuff back). Some of my digital pictures are gone forever. But the majority were saved. I'll update this if the NYPD come through with finding my stuff - but until then, life goes on.... My life has officially become a cautionary tale....

Absolutely the nicest and most engaging people we have ever come across. We shared a few stories and told them about our police force back home. They were so happy to chat to us and share (limited information of course). We felt really comfortable engaging with them and they did a fantastic job at the protest too. Cool, calm and collected, out in force looking after everyone. Well done NYPD, you all did a great job. Really nice personable people.
