The zendo is open for zazen daily. However, Kojin-an Zendo does not actively recruit new members, charge membership dues, or offer regularly scheduled programs, donations are gratefully received. The folk at the Center are warm, welcoming and have no interest in having you believe anything. If you are looking for gurus who will give you ready answers, then this is not the place for you. If you prefer to see by your self and find your own answers, then you found what you are looking for. Hi Sharon L: I read the post about your BPI experience and felt sad that it wasn't more rewarding…read more In 1973 I was aged 31, in Sydney, Australia and my then-current circumstances were keeping me depressed and discouraged. I started having the conviction that I would find a solution in Berkeley and I arrived there in late 1973. I went to Moe's bookshop and picked up a book at random, saw the words "Berkeley Psychic Institute" (BPI), returned the book, asked the shop assistant where that place was and walked there. I've never looked back. One of the students gave me a healing as I sat in the front room weeping copiously. (In their old Regent St. location.) They let me go there every day through the 3 weeks wait for the next Meditation class. Karen, the teacher, got me started on life improvement. I spent 8 years at the Berkeley and Santa Rosa institutes, taking classes, going to Church and to healing clinics and, after I finished the basic classes, to new ones (e.g. Kundalini and Healing III). Then I repeated them all as I was in far less pain and could learn more. I played violin in the BPI church services and conducted the Marin County parish choir and the combined choir. I also wrote songs and last I heard, 9 of them were in the Church songbook. We had annual concerts. That whole 8-year experience was the pivot of my life, turning me around from the pain and gloom of my early years to my current sunny life. Now I'm 80 years old, living in Illinois near my older son and in close touch with my younger son in NY. I'm perpetually happy! BPI taught me how to ground off other people's energy, how to run colors through my aura to clean it out, and how to stay in present time. I'm an introverted person but I see the funny or ironic side of things and I think my good spirits are helping many people here to cheer up. This is a group home for older folks. My husband (also a BPI graduate) died years ago of cancer and I grew tired of living alone. Here I'm about to start a singing group and I'll accompany the songs on my guitar (which I played often at BPI's church services when I wasn't playing the violin). Every day I thank Lewis Bostwick for founding that Institute as well as Richard, Michael and Karen for their good teaching. If anyone is feeling down in the mouth and needs some boosting, take yourself to Berkeley, CA and go to the Berkeley Psychic Institute (BPI). You'll acquire information and skills there that no other place will teach you. It comes from ancient Egypt via the Rosicrucians. There's a large Rosicrucian temple in San Jose, CA with a museum of ancient Egyptian artefacts. Lewis Bostwick, a California boy, a born psychic, and founder of BPI had been a student there and had also traveled a lot looking for psychic company and information,. Right now, I'm reading a novel by Dan Brown called The da Vinci Code which refers to the Rosicrucians. They were very influential and shared priceless information. My grandmother in Sydney belonged to a Rosicrucian group. The rose is an ancient symbol used at BPI in energy work. I'm sorry your reading was unsatisfactory, Sharon. Sounds as if the reader was not very experienced and was glued to the basic outline of a reading. Perhaps you could find more experienced graduates, or a teacher, and ask them to focus the reading on your questions instead of their pre-set procedure. Or perhaps you've already done that. My best wishes for your spiritual life!

Total waste of time and money. I paid for a 2 hour reading. Lots of rambling on about tools, roses…read morewhatever those things mean. The student readers were cold, and rude. Also very manipulative they don't read you organically they ask questions about your personal life upfront. They are supposed to be professional psychics they should be able to read me without me telling them anything. The essence of professional reading is that they says is very little that is accurate. Maybe 5% of what they sis true. It is was generic mumble jumbo terms they use. If you are looking for a professional gifted psychic that tells you specific events and can provide accurate information without you spoon feeding it them, please don't bother.

It's always a plus when you can combine torture with pleasure. I love one-off workshop type events vs regularly scheduled programming so when I saw this event on the newsletter, I recruited my friends and off we went. Payment online is a little confusing as is finding and paying for the special events Vs the scheduled on their website. These are under the "soul" category. We did not have to bring anything to class, but towel and water were optional. The sticky mats were provided along with weights and stretching bands. There's even a water dispenser on the wall like they have in airports. The unisex restroom in the back is large and clean. It sits opposite of a daycare room. Parking is street parking or you can park at or take the BART and walk up a few blocks. I had been to vita when they first opened 6+ years ago for a Pilates/yoga/barre class. I remember it being hard, so katy, the owner, who teaches the power classes must have been teaching, and I hadn't been back until now! Make sure to wear your tank top because the room is heated and only gets steamier with the huffing bodies. Otherwise the studio is bright and clean. There is a little merchandise to buy at the front and cubbies for your stuff. We all wiped down our mats after class with the wipes provided. The acoustics are terrible so when the music is on, and people are talking before, and after it gets very that you have to shout. After the 45 minute class, a foldout table was set up in the middle of the room with cubes of cheese, bread, crackers, salami and cups of wine. There was plenty of wine and some nonalcoholic, but the food was wiped clean. The tasting was educational and Katy is as passionate about her cheese pairings as she is about her exercise.
