We had dinner tonight at NYC Indian Grill as it was one of the few establishments open on Christmas night. The four of us agreed it was an interesting evening for sure. When we arrived, the place was busy and most tables were filled. We expected a normal sit-down experience based on the look of the restaurant but it was more like a cafeteria system. You order at the counter and then eat at a table. We were a little put off by the use of plastic silverware and paper plates based on the cost of the meals. We ordered the Butter Chicken, Lamb Korma, Shrimp Curry, and Shrimp Biryani. I know they were busy and good food takes time, but it took almost an hour to get our food. The food was definitely worth it, but make sure you have time to wait if you stop in. The spice level was on point for me, I'm sure they could have added some more heat if I asked, but I felt it was done well. Some of my friends thought it (Shrimp Curry) was a bit spicy but still palatable. The biggest issue we faced, not entirely on the fault of the establishment, was the 27 member party that came in just before we got our food. There was some issue with a misunderstanding about reservations or a call-ahead and there was no room for them. Instead of having one person come in, the entire party came in and milled around the tables while they argued. It was loud and uncomfortable. They kept bumping into people trying to eat and were generally insufferable. My only complaint with the staff here is that they did not intervene to avoid disrupting those of us who were already seated/waiting/eating. The food really was excellent. Really 5 stars if judging the food alone. We all agreed that we would love to have it again but also agreed that it seems more like a take-out restaurant charging sit down prices. The canned/bottled drinks, plastic cutlery, paper plates, food served in to-go containers, higher than average prices, and lack of initiative in dealing with rowdy/rude customers are what led to my giving it 3-stars. I plan to wait until a calmer time after the new year to try again and will change/update my rating accordingly.

It was just an okay experience...you order food at a counter, and the lady encouraged us to select their buffet. I looked at their buffet options and asked if they would make some fresh chicken wings, and she said they would. However, they never did. The food was a bit sad. I was hungry so at least there was food available to eat. In fairness some of the flavors were decent but the food was definitely out a long time and the meat was not tender. I would recommend just ordering off the menu if you do end up eating here. Also the lady kept asking for 5 star reviews so I feel most Google reviews are inflated too

Stopped in for a quick bite on a rainy day. The food came out quickly and was tasty, was happy to be able to leave with some leftovers due to the generous portions. The service was friendly as well. Maybe it was just me, but I was initially confused with the layout, I think they could be a little clearer that you order at the counter because initially it appeared to be a sit down restaurant. Also I feel like there should have been a free water dispenser because paying for bottled water always rubs me the wrong way.

We stopped at this restaurant after completing an escape room nearby. It appears to be a sit down restaurant, but you actually order food at the counter. Even though we were dining in, our food came in plastic and styrofoam containers with styrofoam plates. When we ordered water we were given bottles of water. I was bothered by the amount of waste in this business model. We enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and the chicken biryani was tasty but the raita it came with was not my favorite. I was also surprised that the "medium" level spice was almost no spice at all. On the plus side the staff checked on us frequently and was very friendly. The restaurant was also very clean.

Tried NY Indian Grill. Good Indian food! So many dosas to choose. They clearly list many, many allergies that they can accommodate, which rocks! Lots of gluten free options. Had a great time there.

We were met by the waitress very quickly and offered ice water, which was cold and refreshing. My wife had a Thai Iced Tea, which she enjoyed, and I stuck with the water. I ordered a bowl of Tom Yum soup to start and found it to be just a tad salty for my liking and I could not finish it. They took it off the bill and were very accommodating. For our entrees, we both had the Butter Chicken and Naan. It was very good! Not a thick/creamy as I have had at other establishments but VERY flavorful and the spice level was perfect. The naan was very good as well and perfectly accompanied the meal. We very much appreciated the attentive nature of the staff and will definitely return in the future!

But wow... the food made it all worth it. The chicken tikka masala was rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The fried rice was full of taste and not greasy at all. And the naan? Great food, just be prepared to wait if it's busy!

Spice Kitchen was a nice surprise. Trying not to sound like one of "those" people, we are from NYC and enjoy a lot of good Indian food from different regions. We enjoyed this very much and are giving it 4 stars because the dishes we 4 enjoyed definitely rate above a 3. We did not try anything from the Chinese or Thai sections of the menu. Can only speak to the Indian and Indian fusion dishes. They were tasty, fresh and worth the visit. Not fancy but spacious and there was parking. Also, relatively quick on and off I-80 if you are just passing through. It was pretty quiet when we were there. After the dinner hour and so just one server/host and kitchen staff. Worth a visit.

The place is spacious with a full bar and comfortable seating -- and the establishment is always clean. The dish was quite satisfying, with the right amount of cream and spicy tomato. The tomatoes used in the dish were so fresh and ripe, they added a bit of sweetness to the sauce. I certainly hope the restaurant is packed on other evenings because it should be. I'm looking forward to returning for another dinner and hope to head there for their buffet lunch as well.

You can immediately feel how happy and welcoming everyone is the second you walk in. Even the customers were smiling, chatting, and being kind to each other... it just felt like one of those places people genuinely enjoy being in. I ordered the chicken halal over rice and baklava, and I'm already thinking about when I can go back The baklava situation alone deserves its own review because you get four pieces in an order and can mix flavors. I tried the chocolate and pistachio baklava and both were unreal. Their dessert display should honestly come with a warning because everything looks amazing. Huge thank you to Jorge and Saiyu for being so welcoming to me my first time there. I recently moved nearby, so finding a spot with great food and great energy made me ridiculously happy. Ordered takeout since their outdoor seating wasn't up yet and we couldn't dine in with the pup. The place is rather small and more like a quick grab-and-go place than a dine-in restaurant. The menu is pretty basic (platters, pitas, burger, salads) with an extensive selection of middle eastern sweets and some cakes as well. I had the "everything" chicken over rice (platter) and it didn't disappoint. The chicken was flavorful and pretty good. My husband leaned into his usual splurge with a double patty burger and fries. He said the burger was very good (and rather large too) while the fries seemed to be frozen fries rather than fresh. We also had some of the walnut baklava, which was just okay. Didn't hit the mark or seemed super fresh. There seems to be only street parking. There are two machines where you can place your order and pay seamlessly with card / Apple Pay. The food didn't take too long to come out either. Solid spot and would return, but the halal in the TRUE NYC just CANNOT be beat, even when included in the name of the business...

The shrimp probably had the most fragrant seasoning I ever tasted and the shrimps themselves, though deep-fried, were still plump and juicy, cooked perfectly. My wife loved their fish tikka (salmon) and the chicken biryani was solid too and came with tasty raita on the side. They also had Indian pickles, a favorite of mine that surprisingly not many Indian restaurants have on their menu. As an added bonus, the dining room is inside a train car, which my son had a lot of fun with. Service was great , very attentive and prompt. Can't wait to go back whenever we're back in the area.

Other things have changed over the years as well - like Puppadum used to be complimentary but is now considered a menu item. We came here after high school graduation to celebrate. We were seated in one of the banquet rooms which was a nice change from sitting in the train. We all got our dishes and shared 3 sides of rice (party of 6). My little one got tikka kabob (not pictured). Half of our party enjoyed the spicy options like chili cheese naan, and Indian spicy curry. I tried something new and learned the lamb kadhai has quite the kick, I wasn't expecting bc I wasn't asked for the heat level. The tikka masala and chicken curry were delicious. My kids love the mango lassi & must have thought they were bottomless they way they kept them coming lol. We each received a complimentary gulab jamun at the end of our dinner. Overall, really great Indian food. They do have a buffet to try different things but I can't remember when they offer it.

From stepping inside, you're given the allure of entering someone's home but greeted with a minimalistic, modern restaurant atmosphere. Service was A+ and the food even better! We ordered the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala (spicy) and lamb vindaloo (spicy) - all were stellar! The masala almost tasted like vodka sauce which was a first for me and I'm NOT complaining. ***2 1/2 stars*** As…read morea native of the Kingdom of Hunterdon, I tend to grade on a curve/appreciate when an ethnic restaurant, or really any establishment that's not just selling pizza by the slice, sets up shop in a pretty rural area. The tradeoff though is that sometimes these places just aren't very good. Indian Masala has a ton of great reviews so maybe I DID just come on an off day, but in my experience, these restaurants often get inflated positive feedback because the patrons just don't have perspective/experience to compare it to (the Hunterdon comp is Bamboo House in Frenchtown, which is very average but is literally the only sushi place must residents have ever been to). I genuinely don't know what the case is here. I stopped by for lunch yesterday with one of my top-tier chums, herself a native of the Kingdom of Sussex. She's a pretty big fan of this place and has mentioned it several times before. We both had pretty big appetites and were ready for a hearty meal. Comparatively speaking, the interior is a little on the bougie side especially for downtown Newton - high-class chairs, sleek tables, etc. I don't think there were any other customers in there when we showed up so we got our pick of the seating and I happily chose the table in the window for potential people watching outside. The highlight for me was the Gobi Manchurian app, which was fried cauliflower florets in a garlic sauce. I thought a few of the florets were overcooked/soggy but overall it was pretty decent - it tasted to me almost like healthy Chinese food, if that makes sense. If we didn't have legit entrees looming on the horizon, I would have had a lot more of that. The Chicken Tikka Masala was literally the worst I've ever had, and probably the only negative experience I've had with the dish. I'm by no means an Indian cuisine expert, but this to me is one of the more mainstream "Americanized" dishes and thus rare to mess up. The chicken was rubbery and dry and definitely wasn't helped by the accompanying curry. I got mild, but this was so mild to render it almost tasteless; it should have at least a little nip to it, but this was so rough that I chose to eat my accompanying naan bread naked without dipping it. Just a gigantic miss in my book and I'd recommend to any future customers that you opt for at least medium spice here. The service was hard to describe and ultimately a wash for me. In many ways it was technically a positive. Our waitress was very attentive but our interactions were a little awkward/odd, much of which can likely be chalked up to cultural barriers so I don't see a need to ding them for it. But as an example, any time my water glass was 80% full, she'd swoop in to fill it all the way to the top - literally the water level would hover right at the edge of the glass so I had to be careful not to spill when I took the next few sips. And once or twice she came by to fill up my chum's glass while I literally was drinking from mine, and she just stood there like a vulture until I placed the glass back on the table so she could swoop in. Especially given that my water was never close to even halfway empty, it was just too aggressive. But it came from a good place so your mileage may vary. Little odd all the way around. As much as I love to highlight restaurants in this area, this one is a pass for me. Much better options for Indian food closer to the city.
