The instructor was teaching her stuff she couldn't do, and when I asked them to move her down a level, they said she was doing well when that was obviously not the case. The gym was also pretty small, so most of the time they were sharing a space. The instructor rushed through each station because there was another class waiting. Overall not a good experience.

She started pulling them out, abruptly ending the class. I would not recommend the 2 year old class to anyone who would like their kids to be treated with respect and enjoy themselves.

Deerkill is by far the best day camp in the Rockland County area. The staff (from counselors to instructors) is also fantastic and a group of very experienced professionals. The directors are always developing new programs and bringing in the latest activities for campers of all ages. One of the newest additions to the camp is the climbing wall and zip line. My kids could not get enough of them. My kids are also huge fans of animals and the fact that Deerkill has a pony, and a couple of friendly alpacas is a great plus. Overall, I would recommend Deerkill to anyone that would like to provide their kids with the opportunity to have summers they will never forget making life long friends along the way. I emailed them right after delivery about this and received no response, but on their website they updated the photo after my email. I called them and said I wanted the old barrel if you can check stock and if not available call me and set up a return. They falsely advertised the incorrect product, and blamed me for this. They deducted $9 for a cleaning fee of a barrel that was never used, and again the incorrect item. The people working the phones are morons and scammers. I utilized this place for years and referring my students to purchase equipment and instruments since 2015. And buying reeds while on broadway tours. That all ends NOW Take your business elsewhere. Photos below show my email complaint. The original photo on my invoice for the barrel I wanted (very blurry pic) and then the return invoice minus $9 with the updated new barrel (that I didn't want)

This band sounds amazing!" Just stop reading and book them now. They're going to be even better than you think. If your reaction is "Meh...couldn't I get that same variety from a DJ?", then I think you should keep reading. Think about any wedding you've been to. What do you remember? Centerpieces? Probably not. Food? Maybe. Music? Definitely. Music is such a huge part of people having fun at weddings. If you have a bad band, people likely won't have as good a time. DJ's are certainly fine. But, for me, there's nothing better than live music at a wedding. And, for my money, there's not a better live band than Mixtape. I'm in a band, so I'm super picky when it comes to other bands....especially for my own wedding. I was excited by how many different styles of music they could play. I knew that the parents/aunts/uncles would enjoy the older stuff that they could play, and that my friends would appreciate the current music they offer too. My expectations were already high.....and they consistently exceeded those expectations. Melanie was so helpful from the very beginning. They handled our requests beautifully. There really aren't enough superlatives to express how great they really were. We got so many unsolicited comments on how good the music was too. People were really digging it. This is a great municipal pool! Spacious and doesn't feel too crowded even on busy days & holiday…read moreweekends when you can hardly find parking (though the parking lot is quite large). There are a few picnic tables and grills on the lawn. No pool lounge chairs or towel service so bring your own chairs, picnic blankets, food/snacks and other accoutrements to enjoy a leisurely summer day. Facilities are clean and well-maintained. Very kids/toddler-friendly. The sizeable shallow end has several sprinklers/splash fountains for children to play in, and there are slides on both the kiddie and adult sides. Also a playground in the back (not affiliated with the pool). There are always many life guards on duty every time I've gone. The pool is accessible only to Clarkstown residents and their guests, so if you're not a resident befriend someone who is. You must obtain a Clarkstown resident ID card first at the registration office at 31 Zukor Road in New City. (The pool won't simply accept a driver's license.) Rates can be either daily or seasonal for individuals or family, and are very reasonable compared to similar community pools.

It's no exaggeration that these monsters from the deep probably kept a legion of child psychiatrists in full time employment. On a recent visit it was nice to see that the previous snake-ridden den of iniquity has long been been replaced with a legitimate pool and that the mythological beasts of years past have been slayed by chlorine and actual cement walls. You can even see right to the bottom. What a concept. This is what Nanuet Lake should have been like all along... no thanks whatsoever to my parents who thought this was some tough love version of Shangri La, albeit minus the all consuming bliss one often finds in paradise. I kid about my parents (almost) and am happy to bestow five easy stars for a childhood reclaimed. I still hate snakes.

Pear Tree Point Beach

Where Darien Beachgoing Gets Practical…read more Pear Tree Point is the more, shall we say, functional, of the two Darien public beaches. Weed Beach, located across a bay from Stamford, has something of a mystical quality to it. It is where high schoolers go in the summertime to smoke out (yes, the name is a coincidence), where the passionate but slightly off-tune sounds of local bands fill humid night air. Weed Beach has woodlands to wander through, a hidden playground through a clearing of trees, paddle tennis courts that I think only ghosts use, and lots and lots of weeds, making every step into the water squishy and unsure. But Pear Tree Point is the beach where you get things done. It's got boat docks attached, so it's the starting point for many a "booze cruise", a favorite pasttime of the Darienite. Families love Pear Tree Point, probably because it's shaped in such a way that it's easy for the kids to stay in view; there's nowhere to disappear to. So children go about producing their childlike things: sandcastles, trenches for the water to flow through, holes to bury themselves in. Pear Tree Point has a gazebo at its center, perched on top of rocks. It's perfect for eating a hamburger and fries from the concession stand during the day, and for making out at night. Pear Tree Point is situated along Long Neck Point, location of some of the fanciest houses in this very, very fancy part of the world. If you're the kind of person who likes to gawk at luxurious homes a la Newport, Rhode Island, then it's worth a slow drive down Long Neck Point road until you get to the end, which is a former girls' school now converted, I think, into residences. The atmosphere is rarefied, elegant, and oh-so-preppy. Pear Tree Point, like all the beaches in southern Fairfield County, has a kind of rough sand, and the water's generally cold. Tahiti it is not. The sun, like so many phenomena in the New York area, is either too dim or too scorching. It takes a certain toughness to enjoy beachgoing in the northeastern part of the United States. But after a day being there, you feel as if you have accompilshed something, and accomplishment, after all, is the highest personal value among most Darienites who bring the never-stop-achieving ethos of New York City back to their town.

The snack bar "uncles by the shore" is owned by uncles deli which is situated on the post road in Darien and closes around 3pm I believe which is pretty annoying. One star off for their gross bathrooms. This beach is smaller than weed beach and does not have a pavilion like weed beach but has a cute gazebo and plenty of space. If you're lucky enough to even get in.

Rockefeller State Park Preserve

This park is SO lovely. While there we saw ducks, frogs, goats... Some took the train from Manhattan and an Uber to the park from there. If you drive it is only $6 to park. There are restrooms and water fountains in the main parking lot. Bring a bag to keep any garbage! In this park there are no trash cans, you take out what you bring in.

Old Croton Aqueduct Trail

I've been running on the OCA most every week for the past five years, and it's one of my favorite…read moreroutes in Westchester. I'm most familiar with the segments in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown, but I've also run south from Tarrytown to Hastings-on-Hudson as well as from the Croton Dam (which is the the northern endpoint). The OCA runs along the old aqueduct route that served New York City between 1842 and 1955, and is part of the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park. The trail's past life is most visible in the old weirs and ventilators, which look like medieval battlements and are located at regular intervals along the path. There also is a keeper's house along the trail in Dobbs Ferry that's open to the public. The trail is well marked, and offers runners a flat grade and dirt surface. It's wide enough for two-way traffic at social distance along much of its length, but there are points at which it narrows to a single track. There also are points where you will suddenly find yourself crossing streets, running through downtown areas, and passing through neighbors' backyards. Note that the trail is broken by I-287 in Tarrytown. You can exit the trail and run along the sidewalk to pick it up on the other side. One of my favorite parts of the OCA is that it connects to other parks and sights along the Hudson. In Sleepy Hollow, you can run directly from the trail into Rockefeller Park (including the Rockwood Hall section, which takes you to the river) and the scenic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Just south of 287, the trail takes you directly through the grounds of Lyndhurst. You can enter/exit the trail at numerous points, and for the most part you can find street parking (or pay for a spot in one of many municipal lots, if that's your thing). One especially popular free lot is Sleepy Hollow High School. The trail passes right through the campus, and there are plenty of spaces when school is not in session. Farther to the north, you can park for free along Croton Dam Rd (which takes you to the trailhead). I'm not aware of any restroom facilities besides those in Croton Gorge Park, which is located below the trailhead at the foot of the dam), and the trail is not plowed in the winter.

We visit Dobbs Ferry often and noticed a park off of Cedar Street, the Croton Aqueduct Park. Last night I did some recon and saw that there is a trail that resides within the park and figured I'd take advantage of the free time I'd have and do a run today. I dropped off my car and proceeded to the park. The trail continues right at the entrance. It's not paved which is great. It's starts off as loose gravel, so not too rough on your tootsies, and then it is an all-dirt path which great on the knees. Although, there are many large rocks so you should be very careful and pay attention where you step. During my run, I passed people who dotted the trail but for the most part, I was alone. I wasn't concerned at all. The trail passes homes and civilization so you don't really feel alone. It's really quite a beautiful trail with different terrain and nature surrounding. The deer and rabbits make it quite tranquil. I enjoy running in silence or listening to my Zombies Run app which is like listening to an audio book. I hate listening to music whole I run because the tempo never meshes with my stride. During this run, I took advantage of the natural sounds and ran in silence. The birds, the rustling of squirrels and the sound of my foot hitting the ground was music, enough. I sound like a hippy but this year my husband and I have discovered so many nature paths in our backyard and I just wish I had more warm months left in the year to enjoy them all.

I have been taking ballroom dancing lessons with Svetlana for many years. Above all, Svetlana is remarkably patient, encouraging and enthusiastic. I greatly look forward to my weekly lessons and now feel quite comfortable performing in public (no small achievement!). Ballroom dancing nicely complements my regular running routine. I highly recommend ballroom dancing to anyone who might find running a bit boring and tedious. You can think of Svetlana as a kind of personal trainer! read more

Decided to give this studio a chance as they claim to be the best in town for ballet and dance…read more Teachers are VERY young and green and were late to teach class a few times during the brief semester we were there. The Acro class is literally girls doing forward rolls, ridiculous! In addition, the studio director is extremely disorganized and lacks communication with parents. There are constant hidden fees for everything. For example: there is a registration fee every semester, not for the year as other studios do... mandatory leotards are to be ordered and worn to class, $30 each. They arrived when the season was OVER...4 months to receive them, unacceptable. Additionally, from the moment you open the downstairs door to enter the studio, the stench is overwhelming. The bathrooms are ALWAYS filthy, floors are clearly never cleaned or moped whether it be in the studio or waiting room. There are NO DOORKNOBS OR HANDLES to open the doors to the studio dance rooms, a child's hand is caught almost every single time I am there. Their excuse is the doors are old and they have not been able to find a doorknob that fits It's a miracle no one has shut this place down. There are tons of other dance schools for your child to go to, that follow the ABT curriculum, have experienced teachers that show up on time and a director who cares and takes pride in their facilities presentation and cleanliness and teachings. Do your research and take a tour in person before joining this sub par at best dance school. Very disappointing!
