When my Mom choose her doctor and began her chemotherapy everyone was very nice, couldn't be more helpful. She completed that phase Aug. 2009. In Oct she began radiation but at a different hospital. Tomorrow we have the scan to see if the tumors are gone. Needless to say there is much anticipation. Though quite robust at the start my Mom is no longer strong enough to walk on her own, it has actually come on rather suddenly after the radiation and she is also now dependent on oxygen. When we called the office today to alert them to the need for a wheel chair, (this is only the second time she's been out of the house since Dec. 31st). We were told that no accommodations could be made by anyone at Haematology-Oncology. She was further told by the phone receptionist, "We do not provide any service like that". I am stunned at the lack of consideration shown her! The receptionist offered no suggestions at all! We have no idea how we will transport her from a taxi arriving at the curb (parking facility is too far away from the 676 building) through the long lobby to the 21st floor offices of Haematology-Oncology. And then she must go to another floor for her scan and then arrive back on the 21st floor for the results, all in the same day. I hope that other families will not have to be treated with such rudeness. Though this group is affiliated with Northwestern, a renowned hospital, the lack of respect for the feelings of patients is unacceptable. It was the most inhospitable treatment we've received through this horrific ordeal.

I didn't see any other patients in wheelchairs or with oxygen, although there was a wheelchair parked in the corner of the waiting room with a big note on it that said "IN USE, PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB." Maybe it was one that a patient came in. I had my first appointment with HOA, and it went really well. I just wanted to write a review to share my experience with Dr. Claudia Tellez, and the staff. Their office seems very well organized. The front desk greeted me right away, answered questions, and asked if I'd had a chance to fill out the paperwork they'd emailed to me in advance. I had, so I handed it over. They validated my parking, so it only cost $10 to park in the garage at Northwestern hospital (instead of $26). The $10 rate for parking is good for 7 hours. The waiting area is very clean and bright, and they have water and coffee available. I waited about 15 minutes to be called in for a vital signs check. Then I waited another 10 minutes in the exam room. Dr. Tellez was a very good listener, and very thorough. I didn't feel rushed, and she gives off a very warm, friendly vibe. She was professional, asked me a lot of questions about my health history and lifestyle habits, explained things in detail, showed me the test results my doctor had sent over to the office, and explained what everything meant. When I mentioned tummy issues that I have already yelped about, she recommended probiotics to help heal the lingering symptoms, and I was happy to hear that. I feel like a lot of doctors don't give probiotics the credit they deserve. So on that count, she struck me as pretty forward-thinking. She explained what she proposed we do about my situation, which made a lot of sense to me. She was very balanced, but cautious. I gave up some more blood for testing right across the hall at the lab, and the woman drawing my blood was very nice and professional, too. So I have an appt with Dr. Tellez again in 2 weeks. I know it's just one experience so far, but it was a good one.

My son was only 2 yrs. old when he started having multiple pneumonias. After two admissions through the ER and overnight stays at Children's Memorial Hospital, clearly my two-yr. old had a problem with his lungs. This brought me to the Pediatric Allergy and Asthma practice next to Oz Park where Dr. Newhall was on staff. At first we saw one of the partners who was alright, except I lost confidence when he reversed the dosing instructions for Singulair. He did pronounce my child's Reactive Disease as Asthma; he also ordered a small allergy panel. The boy was allergic to cats, dust, dust-mites, mold, grasses, trees, springtime. There was a newish cat in the house, who eventually had to go back to the shelter. There was a middle of the night visit to the local hospital ER in Wisc. one Labor Day week-end; an allergic reaction to Ragweed triggered an Asthma attack. I made a follow-up appt., first available, and this is when I met Dr. Newhall. She was so kind, gentle nd caring with toddlers. She was even familiar with the Wiggles, knew their songs. What a delight , upbeat person she was; she had little boys close to my son's age. After that first visit, we never saw another doctor in the practice again. Later when she left to start her own practice, I found an the ad in Chicago Parent with her new office address on Lincoln Ave. and followed her there. My son, now a teen, has been Dr. Newhall's patient ever since. Her achievements are impressive; she was educated at the top educational institutions in the country. She has treated my son's mild allergy-induced Asthma with two or three daily medications. When he would have flares, with middle of the night bouts of continuous coughing, we'd go in to follow up. After I described what happened, she would tell me I should have phoned her at home! What doctor says that? One November, my boy had flu symptoms, fever of 104F degrees. This was during the Swine Flu/H1N1 outbreak. The pediatric practice was unconcerned my son had Asthma and now maybe H1N1; the Pediatricians were not prescribing Tamiflu. I phoned Dr. Newhall, who saw him right away, prescribed Tamiflu which cleared flu symptoms, fever within 36 hrs. Another time I called the Answering service on a Sunday night when my kiddo was having a bronchospasm that the Albuterol wasn't touching. Her partner, Dr. Donell phoned back, said try the steroid inhaler. Success. He is just as wonderful, kind, caring and competent as Dr. Newhall. These doctors are a rare pair; a vanishing breed. Do not hesitate to make an appt. Any negative reviews are unfounded.

The office staff doesn't want to take responsibility or feedback for long lags in information (we have been waiting for over a month for simple lab results) or misinformation (we were told wrong information about the purpose and tactics of a visit and next steps). Not only that but when you confront the staff on these understandably frustrating issues they hang up on you instead of being professional, taking ownership and promising to resolve it. I'm very disappointed in our experience here, and we plan to find another child allergy doctor office, if possible. Food allergies impact families in big ways and this behavior is inexcusable.

The waiting area is very clean and neat with a nice entertaining TV. Having a clean clinic is one of the most important things to me. The staff assured me that I would be seen in a timely manner, and they were right. Before I knew it, my name was called to see the doctor. The doctor I saw was very intelligent and knowledgeable. He answered my questions thoroughly and wrote me my prescriptions. One of the best doctors I've ever experienced. The doctor walked me step by step what I needed. I also got a referral quickly and easily. They are able to transfer my records to wherever I needed them without issue. All in all, Hermosa Medical Center was a great experience and I highly recommend anyone to go for their medical needs.

Dr. Cruzat is really excellent for patients in the area, though read the last paragraph for my…read morecaveat. This is especially true because her excellent, multi-lingual office staff will schedule you to fit in and appointment THAT DAY, or at worst, the next day if you're having an urgent issue. I can't stress enough how awesome this is. I was able to avoid paying extra money for the emergency room because she was able to go out of her way to make an appointment with a specialist who could rule out a true cardiac emergency when my heart rate and BP were extremely low and I was having dizzy spells and called her. I no longer live nearby but I have kept her as my doctor because of these factors and the fact that it's a hassle to change my Primary Care doc. I think the reason another poster said there is often a wait is partly due to the fact that they schedule patients pretty tightly so they can see you as soon as possible, AND she spends a really good amount of time listening to patients, even when a med student does the initial assessment she will take time to really understand what's happening. So that "wait-time" complaint is actually a benefit to whichever patient she's with at the moment, which will eventually be you! The only reason she doesn't get 5 stars from me: I think if you are offended by Christian sentiments (posters, little daily meditation books in the waiting room) she might not be the very best doctor for you. You might be put off by some of her priorities (for example, the friendly advice, You-should-marry-him-already and don't-you-want-a-baby? kind of thing - granted this is after I've been seeing her for 8 years and she knows me well, and I'm paraphrasing). ON the other hand, she really is a very intelligent, kind, attentive, careful doctor and the advantages vastly outweigh the disadvantage of my having to fend off her desire for me to put a ring on it and get preggo.
