The service people are great. The office loves to bill people like myself even after I sold it. I owned a 4 plex in Lake Oswego and moved out approximately 3 years ago. I sold it in December of 2025. NW Natural sent me a bill for $50.98 for one of the units. I called them and told them I no longer had an interest in the building, but they insisted I had to pay, which I did. They simply would not listen to reason. I do not trust them, but they have a monopoly on th area, and do not have to listen to customers. They never admit to shady practices, nor to exploiting senior citizens like myself. Most of the employees and company practices are honest but billing has problems, and blames the customers. Did you know that you are auto enrolled to agree to an adjusted rate schedule during the winter months?? I didn't until I was billed $8.69 more for March (30% less usage than February) I was told the residential average cost is 1.33 per therm I was billed for March 1.575 per therm The low billing per therm is 1.10 per therm Personally I believe customers should be given the choice to opt in, if they want this program, not have to opt out once they figure out what's going on. I would prefer to pay the same rate year round not sure how they get away with charging more for less? and continue to ask for rate hikes. NW Natural is making good money with this is an automatically enrolled option. All that being said the customer service assistance with the explanation was great, the rep was helpful and pleasant. read more

The service representative answered immediately and quickly dispatched a technician to my home. The gas leak was discovered and the problem was resolved. She asked me if I was the main name on the account and when I said no she said "Thank you for calling NW Natural, have a great day," and promptly hung up on me before I could get a word in. Never asked for my name, just didn't care. DO NOT enroll in Equal Pay. I was charged $182 for a single month of gas service after enrolling in Equal Pay. I have NEVER paid more than $65, even in the winter months. Absolutely a scam and utterly fucking ridiculous. Will be changing all appliances to electric. Forget using gas. read more

Was very clear in explaining the process of moving and transferring service. Sadly, my mother passed away in April - unexpectedly. My sister and I have had a challenging year. As we wrap up my moms estate and selling her home, I called NWNG. When we closed her checking account, I forgot to let NWNG know and the final ACH payment for service bounced. They charged me a $15 fee and I asked to have this reversed, given the circumstances. My mom lived in this house, paying NWNG, 56 years. Her father, my grandfather, also retired from NWNG and my mom still owned the NWNG stock she inherited from her father after he passed. It's not about the $15. I just know my mom would be so disappointed to be charged this fee. Sadly AT&T and Dish Network were a lot more understanding and easier to work with. Go figure, right? There was a small odor (smelled like rotten cabbage) coming from our fireplace area. One of our family members, with very limited english, called NW Natural, and they informed us that they'll have a technician to our home within one hour.  The Technician, Joe Liebelt, showed up to our home within 30 minutes (now that's a speedy service!). He able to locate and repair the gas leak by the fireplace very quickly and with emphasis on safety and quality. The Technician was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. He checked every other natural gas connection inside (i.e.: stove and other fireplaces) and outside (i.e.: furnace and streets) of our home. A small gas leaked was detected at the Regulator by the Gas Meter - the Gas Regulator Module was then replaced with a new unit. I know this company gets a bad rep because they are a utility company, howver I have to give them a great review for their customer service. My daughter and I have spoke to them several times during the pandemic and most recently today. They are really making an attempt to work with you and informing the customer of grants, payment plans and energy assistance available in the community. I know that being a customer service representative cannot always be easy, if ever at all, and I would just like to take note and say, "Thank you". The Service Tech from NW Natural just earned an A+ from me. We had an odd smell coming from our gas fireplace when it had been turned on awhile. Fortunately, it was only dust around the unit which he showed me how to clean. He also demonstrated several handy features of our Cozy Heat fireplace that I didn't know about since I hadn't read the manual. These will increase our enjoyment of the fireplace a lot. Being in the business of selling something that is designed to catch fire, NW Natural takes safety seriously. We detected a slight, occasional odor near a relatively new gas cooktop. They sent a technician who arrived promptly (wearing gloves, and putting his mask on before approaching the door). He was friendly and efficient, confirming a leak, showing us the reason (an adapter that wasn't the right one for our range), and, fortunately, he had the right one in his van. He checked every other natural gas connection inside and outside, as well as checking the street outside our home for any other possible leaks. I am a snow bird so I have autopay on all my accounts, this winter a problem arose that I was unaware of because the only contact method they use is snail Mail. When I returned home after 8 months, I paid the $147 past due but was refused autopay. This account has had no problems prior to this at all since 1989. I always have to wait on NW Natural to be able to give the final payables amount and gather funds from my other family members to pay the bills. We pay all our bills on the 1st of the month and NW Natural always releases the bill on the very last day of the month, but it's not always consistent. For example, for bill date 3/31/19, it's the afternoon of 4/1/19 and I still don't have a bill amount. When I called, the rep said the billers were "working on it". Granted March 31st was a Sunday, but other companies will process billing the Friday before so that the bill can be ready at a consistent time each month regardless if the bill date fell on a weekend or holiday. It's so annoying to deal with this each month and there's nothing you can do about changing when you receive your bill; it all gets processed on the same day regardless of your billing due date. They get more than one star because the website is good and customer service is usually prompt. read more

Trying to get information as to why I have not received billing this month for the two homes I have natural gas heat in. I have call and been that it would be over 60 to 80 minutes waiting on the phone for help by a robo menu. I opt for a call back and in over an hour I get a voice mail to call them at the normal number and start the process of waiting all over again, I was told I would receive a phone call not a voice message, I'm sick of it and if there was another natural gas company in the area would be gone from this shitty customer service which is worthless! What the Hell if there was a leak the house would be blown apart and burned to the ground before they never replied. Our State of Oregon that regulates this industry needs to get involved! read more

NW Natural was in my neighborhood and as a "good neighbor " they decided to fill a drainage ditch I was in the process of digging out. When I got home from work they were finishing filling the ditch with square rock??? Now the ditch is filled with square rock that does not drain. When I called to have them remove the rock Marlece with customer service told me to hire a professional to determine the problem before they will talk to me. Talk about leaving the customer hanging. Sad thing is I'm not even a customer. NW NATURAL GAS, WILL YOU PLEASE COME REMOVE THE DEBRIS THAT YOU DUMPED ON MY PROPERTY??? John S. our technician found the problem with our furnace immediately. He was super knowledgeable, professional and spent time looking to make sure that all other gas appliances were working. He took the time to explain to us exactly what was going on. I know safety is the first priority of the gas company and he is a prime example about how serious safety is for them. Shut off....no notice of any kind, no knock on the door....a little note saying the service man tried knocking to collect payment and since nobody was home he shut it off.....I was home all day, nobody knocked, and my home security camera shows him just putting the note on my door, no knocking.....way to go NW natural! I have two small children at home, could have written a check if given the chance. Now I have to pay double(probably more) than the original bill was in the first place, that's probably why there wasn't an attempt to actually get payment.....Pacific power got sued for these sort of practices, I hope that ends up happening to this company, hopefully stop this company from crooked business practices.-would like to give 0 stars but that's not an option. read more

I've now had TWO early morning "experiences" with NW Natural LARGE MEN come into my yard - no knock on the door - no doorbell ring - NO NOTICE and try to access my back yard. I confronted the first guy and he informed me that NW Natural has "trespass rights" and has no duty/obligation to EVER inform me that they are going into my private yard. The guy this morning did the same thing - just after 8 AM - I watched him attempt to open my gate - went to the street and photographed him (he had not been wearing any ID badge so he had to fish it out from between the seats of his truck). I called customer service AGAIN ----------------still no response. I'm considering putting up gates in my entire yard - hate to do this but these guys creep me out. Janice N. Reported a gas leak and Justin (Technician) was at our house within 30 minutes. He was friendly, knowledgeable and in tune with the customers' needs. Repairs had to be done by an outside heating and cooling company. The same day everything was repaired Mike (NW Natural Technician) was promptly at the house reconnecting our gas. He too was friendly and knowledgeable of everything. This utility company has the absolute worst customer service I have ever encountered. They will come out and shut your gas service off with no notice, in the middle of the day when you aren't home, and then charge you an exhorbitant deposit to reconnect. If you need same day reconnection, they will charge you a $200 deposit, a $100 reconnection fee, plus your balance in full. In my case, I owed $50.00, but it ended up costing me way over $350.00 to get reconnected. (keep in mind I only owed 50 bucks) ALL OF THIS WITH NO NOTICE!!!!!!! I am 65 years old and disabled, have medical issues, but I guess that almighty 50 bucks is what matters to them. Shame on NW Natural for being so cold hearted and unfeeling towards their customers. Not that this rant is ever going to change things at NW Natural, but when I can afford it I am going all electric plus solar, and to heck with NW Natural. read more

OMG, the worst! And there's nothing I can do about it because they are the only game in town. For the last three months I have not received a bill, only a past due notice with a late fee attached. I've had to call every month to tell them I never received a bill, but I continue to not receive a bill. I turned off paperless billing thinking that then I would have to get a physical bill in the mail, but I did not. Today, I received another past due notice in the mail, but no bill. I called NW Natural AGAIN to complain but this time I just asked them when the new bill will become available for me to view online and when it will be due so I can put a reminder in my own calendar to remind myself to go to the website to pay it, since I am not getting bills. The really frustrating thing is, I continue to have to pay late fees, despite my not being late. Last month they said they would remove the late fee "as a courtesy," which cracks me up. It's THEIR mistake, but as a courtesy to me, they will remove their late fee. I so wish I could choose a different company! read more

So in the first week February 2022 I started a complete remodel of my home. New kitchen,bathroom,laundry room everything we had removed all gas appliances except dryer and water heater both newer high quality . My gas bill in the summer is around $28-50 a month now not using forced air gas heat, or kitchen stove my bill is $201 for water heater and dryer that is used once a week. Technician came out said yes home is guted no leaks but meter is correct what a joke they are averaging bills and I just caught them I will never trust them again what a rip off . read more
