Thursday 5/2/2024 Just a heads up: This ice cream spot takes cash only, doesn't do ice cream samples, and is strictly takeout for ice cream. I got a 4 scoop cup (vanilla, chocolate, and 2 cookies n cream) $3.82. One thing I immediately noticed was that the portions are HUGE and the prices are amazing. On the other hand, The ice cream taste was pretty mid and it reminded me of store bought ice cream. And I wouldn't be surprised if that store bought ice cream was turkey hill due to it being on their website and the taste being similar. Overall, this ice cream spot has amazing prices and even better portions but the ice cream itself is mid and average to me.

Outside and inside of the store

When you step into this store, it's like rewinding the (cassette) tape to a time before WW2 or Vietnam. This is a small-town ice cream shop from back in the day. Maybe back before your day, definitely before mine. The decor was quirky and homey, I was charmed. Yeah, but what about the ice cream, you say. Was super on-point. They had a wide variety of flavors, but we went with pistachio-almond, cookies and cream and chocolate chip (we're boring like that). They were all bursting with flavor and struck that hard-to-hit note between too little and too much heavy cream. Smooth, silky texture with just enough body. The other retro thing about Nutters? The prices. I haven't seem prices like that since long before the pandemic. The same ice cream in Georgetown, DC or Cambridge MA will run you three times as much. Not saying you should drive out to this little corner of MD. But if you do, you won't be disappointed!

This place is a blast from the past. The line says it all, and sometimes wraps around the neighborhood! Huge servings and cheap prices! You can't believe how big those ice cream cones are and don't even get me started with the banana splits. Family owned and operated this place is a rare find in America today! No matter where you're coming from it's worth the drive, but bring your cash cause they don't accept credit cards.

If you like ice cream - and lots of it - this place is for you! The "small" was ENORMOUS and the ice cream was both creamy and flavorful

Absolutely fantastic! The portions are huge and has a great small town feel to it. Would definitely come back in the future!

This place is fantastic!!…read more We have gone here multiple times and never disappointed I guess the only thing I don't like is the random people hanging out in the parking lot. But it is a college town so it's not the worst thing. Definitely recommend

For those who knew my grandma, she never turned down ice cream. So while in town last week for her…read morefuneral, my friend suggested we visit Amy & Alex's Homemade Ice Cream and Coffee. I'm not usually a huge ice cream person, but it felt like the perfect way to honor her. The shop itself was bright, clean, and welcoming, with several people already enjoying their treats. We grabbed a high table by the front window, which made for some great people-watching while we indulged. The menu immediately caught my eye. The range of flavors wasn't just broad--it was creative, unique, and full of options you don't see every day. That foodie spark kicked in, and I knew I had to go with a flight so I could taste a few. (Brilliant idea, by the way--four little cups of different flavors!) Our picks were: Grilled Lime Burnt Honey Crunchy PB Jelly Espresso Mascarpone Lemon Biscotti Brown Butter Pecan & Praline Each scoop came with a color-changing spoon (such a fun touch), and every flavor was creamy, consistent in texture, and absolutely delicious. My favorites were a tie between the Espresso Mascarpone (though I think it could stand strong without the lemon biscotti) and the Brown Butter Pecan & Praline. The Grilled Lime Burnt Honey was bright and unique, and the Crunchy PB Jelly was tasty but leaned a bit sweet for me. Overall, this was some of the best ice cream I've had--flavorful, high-quality, and true to its name. Add in the kind, helpful staff and the clean, cozy atmosphere, and it made for a really special stop. I left not just with a happy palate, but also with a new tradition: every year on August 22, I'll seek out a new ice cream spot in honor of my grandma. Amy & Alex's was the perfect place to start.
