A gem of a store. Just a small place on the High Street in Woburn Sands, but it is a knitters…read moreparadise. Sue, who owns the store, is very friendly and knowledgeable. I have taken my knitting in when I've had problems and asked her for advice. There is a wide range of yarns and patters so everyone should find something for them. They also run some knitting groups throughout Milton Keynes. http://www.theknittinghut.co.uk

Walking into the knitting hut is like stepping into a calm and colourful tardis. Packed into this…read morelittle shop is a large range of yarns and wools, each carefully chosen by Sue, the owner. The range includes some beautiful fair trade items, such are recycled sari silk yarn, and purchases are placed into recycled Indian newspaper bags. What singles this shop out though, is not its stock, but the helpfulness of the staff. Whenever I, an absolute beginner to the knitted arts, have needed advice, Sue, or her staff, have been more than happy to help. Dumb questions like 'how do you cast off', are answered without making you feel foolish. The shop also run a series of workshops in knitting and related crafts which take place in various locations around the locality. There is also an annual outing to the Knitting and Stitching Show which is a very popular event. The shop has an online presence too so products can be ordered at a distance. The website is simple and easy to use and orders are fulfilled promptly. If you are not a knitter, a short time in the shop might convince you to give it a go. If you do knit then the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff will make this a place you return to again and again.

We're planning a trip to London next week and I hoped to be able to pop in while we're there. It…read morelooks like the shop is closed but I called and a nice man answered the phone. They're open on Saturdays from 10a to 3p which is very good news!

I love this place…read more I went on a search for knitting wool and came here on the Yelp recommendation of Joanna. I had to fit my visit into the shop's limited and somewhat odd operating hours, but fit it into my schedule, I did. And I'm sure glad I did as well. The shop is nothing special from the outside, and it's nothing particularly special from the inside. The walls are cubby holes dedicated to the seemingly haphazard storage of knitting wool/yarn. It's par for the course of any knitting/crocheting store, really. But the jewel of this place is its business owner, retired Mrs M.A. Jones. She self-professedly runs a wool shop to keep herself out of trouble. Love. Her. She is potentially the most helpful person I've met in my life. She's eager to hear about your project and to give you ideas on what yarns will be best for it. She doesn't try to upsell you, and she will recommend an acrylic wool if that's what will suit your project the most. I went in one day and bought a skein of wool. I went in the next day to buy some more, but mostly to show off what I'd done with the first skein, so eager I was for her encouragement and praise. She stocks both high-end and economical wools, so if you're cheap like me you won't have to suppress your balking at the dear wools that come with dear prices. 100 grams of a 70/30 acrylic-alpaca for £2.99 suits me just fine.
