Walking into the knitting hut is like stepping into a calm and colourful tardis. Packed into this little shop is a large range of yarns and wools, each carefully chosen by Sue, the owner. The range includes some beautiful fair trade items, such are recycled sari silk yarn, and purchases are placed into recycled Indian newspaper bags. What singles this shop out though, is not its stock, but the helpfulness of the staff. Whenever I, an absolute beginner to the knitted arts, have needed advice, Sue, or her staff, have been more than happy to help. Dumb questions like 'how do you cast off', are answered without making you feel foolish. The shop also run a series of workshops in knitting and related crafts which take place in various locations around the locality. There is also an annual outing to the Knitting and Stitching Show which is a very popular event. The shop has an online presence too so products can be ordered at a distance. The website is simple and easy to use and orders are fulfilled promptly. If you are not a knitter, a short time in the shop might convince you to give it a go. If you do knit then the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff will make this a place you return to again and again. read more
