Been coming here pretty regularly. Its got a nice vibe to it. Really homey. They have a pretty wide selection of goods, pantry staples, dairy, vitamins, hot sauce. They sell Mados! Which is this really amazing hot sauce. If you are into hot sauce and have yet to try Mados, go do that now. Seriously, worth every penny! This local business has been around for 13 years! So great to have them in the neighbourhood and for them to still be thriving! I like to come here to get bulk items, although with any bulk store, sometimes you do need to be careful with certain nuts going bad. There was a bad macademia nut I had and oof, terrible when they are rancid. Also, not the greateat experience with Walnuts either. I thought it best to keep nuts with a higher fat content in the fridge, to help maintain freshness. Prices are incredible though and they have these amazing brown bags that are specifically designed to be reused. They are open to having you use your own too. Points for Environmental Consciousness. Overall the service is friendly and helpful. Usually informative as well. Will definitely return! read more

As far as whole food stores go, Nuthouse can compete with the best of them. If it's organic and sold in bulk, they've got it. From grains to coffee, soap to cereal, this little shop is exactly what this neighborhood needed. I've only been once, but was very impressed with the variety and scope of bulk organic products. Yes, yes, yes and more yes. Finally a bulk store in my area. I was worried that it would have the "we're-a-health-store-so-we-have-to-charge-extra-for-everything" fee, but luckily that doesn't seem to be the case. The prices seem to be comparable to most of the other bulk stores I've been too in Toronto, not as cheap as I'd like (ya know, free), but cheaper then No Frills. It doesn't have as large of a selection of bulk items as say Strictly Bulk, or a Bulk Barn, but it does have all the essentials. You also have to factor in that they're more interested in quality here then cost. I think most of the items were organic, without the non-organic alternative, so of course it's going to be a little more expensive. So far the biggest draw for me is the vegan organic soups made by the chef from Fressen. I haven't tried these yet, or seen them sold anywhere else, but I'm hoping they're as tasty as they look. They're also carrying the vegan Daiya cheese that I love so much, which makes me think my Daiya cheese obsession is only going to get worse before it gets better. Sadly their lacking slightly in the coffee department, only 4 types of the Dark City coffee beans, but I'll give them a try and see if they can win me over. I finally stopped into Nuthouse during an aimless stroll, and was there for half an hour taking it all in. It's packed with stuff, and it's a lot bigger than it looks! The prices are decent, in my opinion. Great products for fair prices. Not jaw-droppingly inexpensive, but what can you expect for quality (often organic) items? The reason it went from four star establishment to a five is because of the guy that was working. I was buying some coconut oil, and he glanced it and informed me that they sell it in the bulk section for less than half the price. Without my even asking, he walked to the back and showed me where it was. He also gave me some solid advice on nutritional yeast. If you live in the area, this place is worth checking out. They sell more than just nuts here!!! I came in quickly, hoping to pick up some ... actually I don't remember what I came in for, maybe to see if they had spelt bread or something... but my 2 min stop, while the hubby was waiting in the car, turned into a 20 min ordeal because there was just SO MUCH stuff in here. Although, yes there are nuts and bread in the front, there is a big bulk section of dried goods. Some unique stuffs I've never seen before. And I found sifted Spelt flour which is a god-send. There's also a section for spices, whole and ground. I like these store because it is small, but so jam packed full of interesting things. I want to come back and peruse at my own leisure. read more

It doesn't take much to make a health food/grocery store a place you want to visit. You basically just have to have the desire to buy certain kinds of products because of your lifestyle or your beliefs. Thing is, that has always made stores like Nuthouse seem a dime a dozen to me. The thought seems to be that the customer base is built-in, so why make it special. Contrary to the usual experience at shopping at a health food/grocery store, I find the personnel at Nuthouse very kind and engaged, and always eager to answer questions. The place is generally warm, the product range is pretty vast and their prices are reasonable. Oftentimes "organic" is code for "we've jacked the price up" but not here. It's probably one of my favourite places in the area to buy, well, anything. read more

Definitely my favourite health food store in Toronto, and trust me I've been to the majority of them. Their bulk section is endless and the prices are great. The staff is so friendly and obviously passionate and knowledgable about the shop and it's products. They have taken into account all aspects of making the experience as low-waste as possible, as they support bringing your own bags and containers to stock up on the bulk items, and if not, they have paper bags that you can use. If the word 'bulk' conjers up images of dusty old ethnic shop food bins or soulless Bulk Barns, then you need to check out Nuthouse for a second opinion. Sitting in a little space out in the Bloor and Lansdowne, Nuthouse has established itself with Blansdowne locals as the best place around to pick up all sorts of interesting products. First thing you'll notice about Nuthouse is that it smells good...it smells really good...it smells like an incredibly nice mix of high-quality nuts, cereals, grains, teas, dried fruit, lentils, dried fruit, spices, cake, and coffee. It's a smell that right away makes you feel comfortable and assures you that what you're getting is filled with quality. Don't expect to see the typical bulk fare with hundreds of bins full of overly processed and mass-produced stuff; you're in the wrong place for that sorta thing. Nuthouse is full of nothing but always high quality and sometimes organic products. Ok. That might not be the very first thing you notice. Chances are, if you're walking down Bloor looking for this place, or even if you're not looking for it, the first thing you'll notice won't even be inside the store; it'll be the big, plastic walnut hanging above the front doorway. That big walnut has become somewhat of a landmark item on this stretch of Bloor, even though they've only been in business for a few months. Nuthouse isn't just about nuts. They carry all sorts of things, from organic candy and fair-trade coffee to raw cereals and handmade soap. And its healthy too. A lot of the stuff they carry is the sugar-free, vegan, raw, organic type of stuff, which makes it a super option for more health conscious people. And if you have dietary restrictions, Nuthouse has got you covered too with tons of gluten and wheat free products, like their spiced carrot cake. If that's your bag and you live in the area, you no longer need to travel far to get these kinda things. Personally, when I think of organic or locally-sourced or handmade or any other related adjective used to describe stuff in a store like this, I unfortunately also think 'expensive'. At Nuthouse though, that really isn't the case. The prices are actually fairly down-to-earth and mostly afforable. In fact, a lot of the products they sell are actually cheaper than the bulk stuff you find at No Frills, with an obvious element of quality you may not find at bigger places. Wanting to try out interesting varieties of stuff you already love, like lentils or rice or yes, even nuts? Nuthouse has got you covered. They carry a ton of different kinds, some of which you probably didn't even know existed. And that brings up one of the best things about buying in bulk in a place like this: you can buy in smaller amounts purely just because you want to try something. Buying in bulk doesn't have to be about being able to get more for less, it's about being able to also get, well, just less. The fact that Nuthouse just happens to make it also affordable is just the icing on the organic carrot cake. read more

I've been into a lot of natural health food/ bulk food stores that have made me walk straight out due their ridiculous overpricing of products you know are cheaper elsewhere for sure. This store is the complete opposite. Went in for coffee and found amazing prices; even better than the grocery store. After making my first purchase I ended up making a second because I discovered amazing deals on tea. Ditch the name brand places and come here. Before I get into this full review let me just say that I love The Nuthouse and I'm delighted to have them so close by. I stop in there to pick up all sorts of goodies frequently and will continue to do so. They are clean, friendly and carry a wide variety of wonderful products which I absolutely love. With me so far?! Here's what I don't agree with, their prices aren't compareable with other stores. With my background as a chef, I have shopped in almost every market and bulk store in this city and I find their prices a little steep. I'm not one to cheap out on food I assure you. I also live to eat delicious organic food but when I see a bag of Kale chips being sold for $7 it makes me cringe it really does. In fact most products in the store are priced at about 20-30% higher than other stores. I also understand that they are new and don't have the relationships, buying power or experience that places like Strictly Bulk do in order to lower the cost of their clientele. Other than that they are fabulous and convenient and I will continue to support them in hopes that they will review their pricing as time goes on. read more

The store is fine, I like it because you can find almost everything. BUT, I always try to go when the owner ( blond lady) is not around because she is really rude, always! No matter what I ask she always respond in a rude, and sarcastic way. What a Shame because the rest of the employees and her husband are really nice. I like this place a lot. They've got some delicious treats at the front counter and sugar alternatives and a bunch of organic bulk foods. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only thing I don't care for is the prices of their jars and bottles. I'm sure it costs them more to provide things like sri racha because it's a small company, but there's no way I would ever pay $7.85 for a bottle when I can easily grab it from the grocery store for $2-3. It calls into question the prices of everything that isn't in bulk. read more

I visited the Nuthouse when they first opened and have drifted in and out since, mainly I assumed it was a well-stocked but overpriced hipster-food store. Until one day I bought dried sage from there because I couldn't find it anywhere else. It was SO cheap! So much cheaper than No Frills! I took a closer look at the prices and found that everything is a good price! Shortly after that, and unrelated, I embarked on an exploration of non-processed food, and quickly realized that pretty much everything I might ever want to eat, minus fresh produce, is sold at the Nuthouse. See other reviews for the list of products. But basically anything. I think it might become my grocery shop of choice. I am so glad the Nuthouse is in my neighbourhood. I am always surprised by the variety of products offered, whether it be spices, pastas/grains, items for baking (multiple types of flour including GF, food colouring, Callebaut chocolate), candy and an increasing amount of fresh items, including dairy, free-range eggs, Montreal bagels on the weekends and onions. Prices are very reasonable for bulk items, though some of the fresh/packaged goods are at a premium (for freshly baked Montreal bagels steps away on a Saturday morning, I accept this gladly). It's a small store but it seems like it's well curated and condensed into the good stuff. The store is quiet and clean. There is a nice variety of bulk items: flours, grains, butters but also a unique selection of nuts and dried fruits. I noticed organic mission figs and also delicious looking honey roasted almonds and pecans and dried peaches that actually look juicy. The bulk items, like one reviewer said, look like a bunch of new foods that you'd want to try out and nibble on. The bulk was surprisingly cheap and I bought a huge chunk (prob. a pound) of Callebaut milk chocolate at an amazing price. The shopkeeper gave it to me for almost half the price that was labeled which was a welcome surprise (less than $5). What I like about the store is that it not only sells typical health store offerings, things that you buy frequently, but gourmet, high quality products that aren't offered everywhere and are usually at specialty shops.
