The advertised flower and leaf for the herb that I ordered all I got was Stem and leaf. When I brought it up to them they said that the flower is there... there literally is one flower. at the same time that I bought from them I bought from a different company because they had sold out and from the other company I got nothing but the flower as advertised. I did not expect all flower, I expected some leaf but nowhere on the website it does not say any stems. Save your money and go with a different company. I will never shop here again. read more

been coming here for years, but much more since Roger the herbalist came here, after Thuna's shut down. He is just amazing. I shop at several herb stores, but this place is old school in the best possible way and have stuff I can only, only get here. Kinda short on the hours, but hats off to them for not being workaholics, which seems to be a Toronto affliction. All staff are helpful but like I say Roger is my fave. read more

The best thing Herbie's could do is hire ACTUAL HERBALISTS to staff their front desk, and show some real politeness. Some of the best selection in the world, contrasted with the worst customer service ever. They have an online website (Monteagle Herbs) but it's impossible to get clear answers from the staff about the quality of the herbs you're going to buy, or if it's even the right herb! Their website shows standard stock photos of the herbs, but not pictures of their actual products. It makes it impossible to judge. Some herbs I've ordered in the past have been old and low quality, while others have been amazing and top notch. It's Russian roulette if you order from them online. Packages do not contain packaging dates or expiry dates. The old herbs may not be fit for human consumption due to mold, and this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. When you visit their in-store location in Toronto, the staff are ignorant, dismissive and even rude. How does an herb company that boasts such a huge selection show such low caliber customer service? Herbie has worked hard to build such a huge inventory, but has done nothing to build customer relations. I just don't get it??? If only the owner realized that making his customer service better could make him the #1 herb store in the world, he could have a real winning business on his hands. Oh well... opportunity lost. The herb we ordered had a high Alcohol content. it's says it 50% but when I inquired they said sometimes they do 60% It's very unpleasant even when mixed with water. I've been using this herb for over many years but this was a large bottle for $139 and a big waste of money. Very Disappointed. read more

I would mark higher, if the staff were more knowledgeable, but they are not. Herbie's Herbs is a great place to go if looking for a fairly decent selection of herbs - verbena, lavendar, calendula, cinnamon, feverfew etc. But if you visit the shop be prepared to take of yourself. I have never gotten actual service. If you want to deal with a proper Herbalist, I'd recommend Thuna Herbs on the Danforth. Herbie's Herbs isn't the place to go if you want a Herbalist consult, but it is decent enough to get any necessary herbal ingredients. read more

I agree with the 1st reviewer--a very wide selection with unknowledgable staff. I also stopped coming here over a year ago after one of the employees berated me when I asked to buy 1lb of Juniper powder after he had already brought out 1lb of Guarana powder that I was ready to purchase. That's $54 worth of merchandise. He complained that it was too laborious of him to return to the back-room to get the Juniper and that I should have asked for both at the same time. There is just no respect for the customer. The inaccurate product knowledge is not only confined to the website but to the employees and this can potentially be dangerous. For instance, I know that Butterbur can be very effective in treating both migraines and allergies but can be hepatoxic and carcinogenic due to its pyrrolizidine alkaloid content. Only carefully-made extracts that remove those compounds are safe for human use. The employee i spoke with, however, simply sated that any herb can be toxic in high doses and that Butterbur is no more toxic than any other plant the store sells, which is a falsehood. I'm still not going to lower my overall rating as the selection and prices are rather good. It's just that the service is so very, very terrible. read more

Needed some sweet paprika and these guys had a quarter pound for $3. It was delicious. The employees are helpful in aiding for the search (although herbs and spices are organized alphabetically), and they also wear old-timey doctor coats, which immediately makes me trust them. read more

I like Herbie's for their amazing selection of essential oils and other such 'new age crap'. I am a new age crap artist and have been since I was 10. Therefore I enjoy this store. I am not much of a herbalist, but I do appreciate their selection of stones and supplies for making homemade cosmetics from naturally healing ingredients. What differentiates Herbie's from many other places that you can buy these things, is that they don't sell a whole lot of silly fad foods. They focus on items used in healing-- not marketing. For this, I have great admiration. Don't bother coming here if you want the latest rage in natural healing or if you're a dabbler-- you have to know your stuff before coming to Herbie's. The staff are helpful and friendly but not always familiar with some of the lesser known gems in the store. By 'gems' I mean not only rocks, but the hidden healing properties of many of their products from herbs to oils. Overall, a great stop for the new age shit that is actually old age. read more

I have been frequenting Herbie's Herbs for years. Yesterday I went in and while they are only taking one customer at a time, the woman working was NOT wearing a mask (despite having a sign on the door saying all customers must wear masks AND a box of masks at the cash), nor was the customer ahead of me wearing a mask. I really want to support small business and I like their prices and herbs that I've come to rely on, but I will never be going back as a result of this flagrant disregard for the Toronto Bi-Law regarding mask wearing/face covering in all Toronto businesses. I love Herbie's Herb. The store is a place where I could spend the whole day hanging out, chatting with my favourite Herbalist Helen about health (mine or my friends) and feel all warm and fuzzy when I walk out. There's a good energy about this place. I go regularly as I enjoy looking at all their products and crystals etc... . I also enjoy their mini library corner where you can look at their books for sale, sit down and read some author they selected. Probably the suggestions of the week or something. This is a great place to find vitamins, supplements, herbs and other homeopathic remedies. Most staff are knowledgeable about their products and very helpful in finding you what you need. Selection is good and pricing is very competitive. Wish everyone there had the same knowledge base level. Would make it more inviting to shop here. read more

Ive been a customer for 5 years + and wont be going back after today. Ive experienced some snuffy attitude from both the owner and 2 particular staff members on more than one occasion but brushed it aside due to how convenient it is to run in and pick up what i need sometimes (i live close). However, todays aggression due to me returning a possible moldy bag was not warranted. I felt attacked and unappreciated. No apologies , no discussion, just some huffing and puffing. Even if i was wrong about the mold, there are more democratic ways to handle such situations particularly considering the item was only 8$ and i had spent a few thousand over the years at their store... The owner wouldnt even look at me, he was talking to me through his daughter (the only friendly staff member) and all 3 of us were a few feet from each other... To top it all off the quality is not the greatest for some items and their prices are the highest you will ever encounter. Im just dissapointed i didnt stop shopping here sooner, oh well lesson learned. Oh and some of the advice given as other posters mentioned is clearly wrong... read more

Service is definitely hit and miss, but if Roger is still there, that man is literally a Guru level herbalist and super kind. There are lots of herbs, and many are very tough to find anywhere else. Service ranges from good to indifferent from most of the staff, but if you are patient and gracious, you will get at least decent service. read more

scam, they sell "tinctures" for 12.5$ per 30 mill and dont even bother to make real ones. You pay for some brandy, no any herbal infusion. I bought a few and they all smell, look and taste just SAME. Also, I bought a pack of dried catnip for 8$ and my both cats display absolutely no interest, so I dont know whats in the bag, actually. Scammers should be put out of business. Shame. They have a knowledgeable and friendly staff that will help when you ask for help, otherwise you can fell free to browse without someone bothering you. I have gone to Herbie's over the years with many different health inquiries and have always come away satisfied. Herbie's product selection is extensive and their prices are competitive. I disagree with the above reviews, based on my long experience with Herbies. They have a full time professional herbalist on site - she is extremely caring, knowledgeable, and spends a lot of time with individuals discussing their health issues and prescribing. It's exhausting work, people who come to herbalists are generally in need of a LOT of info, and are so often in difficult health situations after having exhausted allopathic remedies. I took a friend who was newly diagnosed w/cancer to see Helen at Herbie's, and she spent over an hour talking to my friend about everything, and making very useful suggestions. I myself am an herbalist, so knew that Helen the herbalist was giving great advise, and I have even overheard Helen doing phone consults. The herbs at this store are much fresher than Thujas. I think both the apothacaries on Danforth are charming, but questionable freshness and I never know where they have sourced the plants. Yes there are staff at Herbies who do not know a lot - but what would it cost to have herbalists as store clerks! Just like at the doctor's office, you can't expect the staff to be at liberty to share medical info. Lots of us think that herbs are all harmless - not true. They are drugs in the pure original forms. So you really need a lot of knowledge to discuss them. Also I have to say that Herbie's has herbs that I have never seen sourced anywhere - and which are quite rare and important. So please try again! read more

I called the store looking for some very difficult to find herbs. I was put in the right direction and was shipped the items within 1-2 days. I was very pleased as I'd been looking everywhere for weeks to months. The emails sent from the company were detailed, specific and personally handled. First of all Canadian should be lucky to have this store, especially with vacines becoming mandatory in the US and ongoing efforts to shut down the vitamin/herb sector. Seond, the internet was a godsend for these people. Before when I needed a herbal formula I had to go into the bowels of downtown Toronto and look for a parking spot. Now I order online, pay a small postage fee, and the item is at my door in three days on average. Great store. read more

I called to ask a simple question about whether they had a particular product in stock. Right away I received a really patronizing and condescending attitude. Oh boy, this was not starting out right. I tentatively asked about the price just grimacing at the attitude I was going to receive and sure enough there was another condescending comment then she hung up the phone. Nice. I've visited Herbie's Herbs twice, and certainly do not plan on returning. Whilst my first experience was standard enough, and the young staff were friendly and helpful (if not particularly knowledgeable), it was upon my second visit that I encountered the owner, Herb. I won't bother going into the details, but I will say that I regret having the audacity to ask Herb for his assistance - a service I clearly was deemed unworthy of. After saying "excuse me" and waiting patiently for him to acknowledge me, he continued to talk and laugh with another customer. Once the customer left he finally turned his attention to me, and was patronising, blunt, and incredibly dismissive of the dry, mouldy condition of one of the products I purchased in my previous visit. He actually became aggressively defensive of his product, and even blatantly refused to do anything about it. He could not even be bothered to restock another product I wished to buy that had run out on display, stating that it would not be difficult to get more, but he was very busy at the moment and I should come back another time. I've seen a number of reviews startlingly similar to mine, and am left to wonder if he is even interested in running a successful business?! I would warn against visiting this store - alternatives may be difficult to find, but I am confident almost anywhere else would be a preferable (higher quality product, service, and cheaper) option. read more

I had trouble even giving Herbie's Herbs one star. I have shopped there several times and while their selection of hard to find herbs is good, I have often been disappointed with the lack of freshness. Some things are so dry and old, they have absolutely no flavour at all. This most recent trip, I went back to complain about the quality and was met with hostility and rudeness. They refused to exchange or refund my purchase and kicked me out of the store, even refusing to sell me any more herbs. I will never go back and I warn you not to waste your money on potentially useless product that will not be honoured by the proprietor. read more

For now I'm giving them a 3. The selection is very good. In terms of service I've dealt with the following: a grumpy old asian guy, two helpful ladies (knew where the product was or would help me to get it from the back), and then there's this other hippie kind of dude who is very helpful and has a lot of knowledge (and his knowledge wasn't always correct but out of the 100 things he told me at least 75 of them were right). I do wonder about their herb quality. For example I took some oat straw and brewed it at home and it made me feel incredibly wierd in a bad way (heavy metals??). In this day and age though it's a bargain buying mostly any supplements or herbs since there aren't a lot of regulations. I'm also not sure if there product is impure but just going by anecdote here. If I were rich I'd test their products for impurities. I am going to ask them about where their products are grown, if it's possible to visit the facilities and what kinds of quality control measures are put in place. (fact of the matter is, many of the herbs will uptake metals or be contaminated from the environment unless under strict control or good environment) read more
