One year ago I injured my left arm doing something foolish. I was trying to jimmy rig two wheels of a shopping cart over a radar sensor, however the cart locked up on me. So, go figure, what did I do? Leave the cart and haul groceries... Nope. I gave a quick and forceful lift -- looking back on it now, probably not the brightest idea. -- Instantly, my left upper arm kinda clicked and I felt pain. Oh man... I knew I did some damage, just wasn't quite sure how much.
I thought it would pretty much go away on its own with rest and Advil initially, and the gym of course - that usually worked on most occasions. Well, not this time.
I continued working out either through the pain, or just dropped the intensity, which really was not fun, but better than nothing at the time. I finally needed to try an alternative, so I put my ego aside and decided to have it checked out. I heard Janette was a great physical therapist, booked an appointment.
Janette examined my left arm thoroughly and educated me along the way. She provided me with an excellent treatment using gentle hands and care. I was then instructed to wait 2 days minimum prior to working out.
So... the moment of truth: I was skeptical, because I literally waited sooo long prior to having my arm examined. Ok, put on my favorite music, got warmed up and approached the dumbells with apprehension - hopeful but not expecting any miracles. I started off light, and then began moving my way into higher weights. I looked at the numbers of the weight that set off pain for the past year, and was ready to give it the test... Picked up the weight and completed a bicep curl with my left arm -- YES! (thought that ran through my head), I was ECSTATIC that my pain was a lot less AND I was able to complete a full set of 6 reps under a high payload!!! Totally stoked! This was just the first treatment. After a few more treatments, my left arm was back to 'normal' and I was able to resume high intensity lifting again!!
Janette, thank you! Couldn't have done it without your help. Oh, and yeah... I don't plan on lifting any more shopping carts in the future... read more
