This place is simply amazing. It's a restaurant with a twist - it's 100% self service. But this isn't some shabby cafeteria type deal, Numero Undici (Number Eleven in English) is oozing with style. There are wooden beams on the high ceiling, the walls are rough exposed stone and there are chinese style lanterns hanging over dark wood tables. Here's how it works - You walk in and order from the hand written chalk board menu. Then you get everything else yourself - cutlery, napkins, glasses - and set your own table. When your food is ready, they call you and you go pick it up. When you're done, you clean off the table yourself. The great thing about the lack of waiters is that they obviously save a lot of money. Which means LOW prices. How low? How about EUR4 for a carafe of wine? Or EUR10 for a huge plate of grilled lamb? It's all excellent quality as well. Everything is delicious. Other dishes on the menu include swordfish, gulasch, grilled pork, beef and pasta. But the main attraction here is the meat. If you're longing for a big plate of succulent grilled meat in Pisa, this is your place. It also very popular with locals - always a good sign. As they don't take reservations, I would advise coming here fairly early as it can get very busy, very quickly. And since it's off the beaten tourist trail, I would definitely class this as one of Pisa's hidden gems. Highly recommended.

    Veggies with goat cheese

I went here with some locals who like it for the quality of food at reasonable prices. I definitely agree. Nothing fancy yet the salad and dish I had were very good. I'm inspired to make the goat cheese & vegetable dish at home. Yum!

The BEST pesto gnocchi I've ever had!

Between the three of us we shared two pizzas - the margherita, and the proscuitto e funghi. Both were delicious, but I tend to like more toppings on my pizzas so I enjoyed the proscuitto e funghi one more. The crust was really light and chewy, but also thin enough to hold all the sauce and toppings. They were also quite giant! We also tried the limoncello spritz, but that wasn't our favorite. Overall, a great spot!

We ended up trying the two pizza listed as "popular/suggested". These are my thoughts. Rivistato - What a unique pizza. There is a lot going on and it's folded in half. I thought it was good but they put in this veggie that was bitter which was a tad offsetting for my taste. It's unique, I prob wouldn't get it again but it was different! (3.5/5) Margherita Al Contrario - Went for a simple classic and this was delicious. It's different than the pizza in America and overall enjoyed it. (4.5/5) Overall an enjoyable spot for pizza. Note... the pizza are pretty big and we got two pizza for two people. Tons of leftover for us. We ended up spending 35 euro for two pizza. They gave us a small discount for paying in cash!
