A very lovely spot located on a beautiful street. The mista salad was only fair because of the bitter greens they incorporated into it. The pizza was good but not great and the Branzino was dry. What a way to start my Roman visit!! This is right around the corner from the Vatican!! We happened upon this cute little restaurant following our arrival to Rome from Siena. Hubby ordered a beer and I ordered a still water. (About 1 liter or so) We decided to share some pasta and he would order some fish. I ordered a fettuccine with cream sauce with Bacon and mushrooms ( I special ordered this in my fettuccine). We were also given olive oil and a basket of bread - yumm!!!!! Headed inside to wash my hands, I was given a short tour of the quaint little restaurant and shown my meal (my hubby's fish) being cooked by the chef ... he was so amazing to me and I am grateful!! The restaurant was really nice and was very comfortable - even though we were outside in 90° weather. This site had limited inside seating but we wanted to eat amongst the Romans ...hahahaha, so we ate outside. First let me say- this owner/manager came to our table when our food arrived and deboned my husbands fish --how cool is that!!? I shared a little of my fettucinni so we both had a great meal. I tasted Irv's Sea Bream and it was the best fish I have EVER tasted!! He said the same!! We watched while this owner/manager greeted and helped each patron, got water, talked to the patrons all like he knew each person. You just cant help but feel comfortable here. Before I left, I received the double cheek to cheek Italian kiss- I felt a part an experience with his fond send off. In a town that isn't particularly​ noted for food and restaurants, I let Yelp lead the way for us this time, and it worked out well. Here you'll find nice outdoor dining, an attentive and friendly owner, and solid food. I wouldn't hesitate a minute to return if I were in Pisa. The owner is present and very much involved. We appreciated that he made suggestions and geared us towards the local fare, which is what I enjoy having wherever I go. We had the deep-fried​ anchovies and veggies to start. The anchovies were fresh, generous in portion and lightly battered. For sides, we got an order of French fries, which were crisp, but not at all greasy. We also got a side of tomatoes and onions. The tomatoes weren't the ripest, but fresh. The highlights were our main entrees. Hubby got the whole grilled seabass, which was excellent​ and only approximately​ $20 USD!! Truly amazingly well priced! I've had a similar dish at a fancy-schmancy​ Las Vegas restaurant that cost us nearly $100 USD! Even in low-key Asian family-type restaurants I'ven easily paid significantly more than double. The fish was fresh, not a bit "fishy" in taste, and was incredibly​ moist and not overly salted. So simple, yet so well executed and delicious. My entree was the Pici with Sausage and Truffle. I love pici (but must be artisanal!) so much more than spaghetti, and can't resist it in an area where pici reigns. This was a very rich and tasty dish, though there was only one shaving of truffle and I'm guessing that the truffle flavor was derived from their liberal use of truffle oil. I'm not a huge fan of truffle oil, but it worked here. Great spot for enjoying good food outdoors, and just an easy 5-minute​ walk from the Tower. You won't go wrong here! read more

We came in here a bit early before they opened and the owner allowed us to sit in the front of the small place and have a glass of wine. He seemed friendly, but after you sat down and ordered, you never saw him again. You were then served by people who didn't talk at all, or take care of you that well. They never asked us how are meal was, or if we needed anything. We ordered the lasagne which had lots of ground meat inside, but was far too soft and sweet. They clearly overcooked it. The pasta with sausage had poor flavor. At the end of our meal, the owner magically reappeared and wanted to try to sell us a dessert, and when we declined as we were too full, he seemed offended and quickly left the table. Needless to say, it seems the owner isn't that genuinely friendly, and is more focused on revenue, than providing a pleasant dining service. read more

This was our least favorite meal during our entire Italy trip not only because of the service but also the food was less than inadequate. The location is near the main attractions which is why we chose to eat here out of convenience. The female owner and server were kind to us. We were initially excited to try this place especially after seeing one of the dishes with our surname in the title. We thought it would a fun fact to share with the male owner that our last name was on the menu. However because we didn't look "American" we were interrogated "where we were actually from." It was uncomfortable for us to explain our origins, We further observed the discrepancy from the male owner providing service to many different customers (who did not look like us). He was much friendlier and asked less intrusive questions to other patrons. We got the antipasta which we could not finished and was questioned by the male owner why we are not eating the food (in a rude way). We regretted getting the grilled vegetables and roasted peppers because it was very bland. The gnocchi was "mushy" and we struggled finishing it. However our seafood spaghetti was decent but was a bit pricey. Overall, we really wanted to finish our meal as fast as we could so we could leave this place but we noticed our meals were served slower than other patrons. read more

Wow. Saw the reviews and they don't lie. They don't lie I tell ya! The host/owner greeted us and even though they closed in 5 minutes he still decided to serve us despite the mid day break. He was like the Terminator as well. Fast, and efficient and was as friendly as they come. The food was fresh and tasty and I loved everything. The gnocchi was some of the best I ever had, and the wife had a seafood spaghetti that was to die for. This is a top notch establishment. Our experience at Peperoncino is still a bit confusing. In summary, the food and wine were good, and the service was very attentive... almost too attentive. It's unlikely we'll be back, but clearly several other reviewers disagree with our perception. Perhaps we caught things on an off night? We showed up without reservations behind a group of three. While there were two empty tables inside, and five empty chairs, the group of three was turned away, and we were instantly escorted in to one of the available tables. While we were dining, about five other groups showed up without reservations; three groups were seated, one group was asked to make reservations on the next night, and the fifth group was turned away. The groups who were turned away were parties of asian diners, including the party who had arrived before us. The restaurant had only caucasian customers during our visit. We were seated near the door with a front-row view of this all, and it was strange to watch. We selected a Montalcino wine which was good. We had some ok gnocchi, a plate of excellent fried sardines, and the evening special, a grilled steak served with tomatoes and arugula. The steak was ok, with ok arugula... but the tomatoes weren't very fresh or flavorful. We finished with an excellent creme brulee. The owner was very attentive to one of us through the meal... but it seemed a bit forced and a little strange. He did offer us some limoncello which was very good to end the meal. I'd say that the meal itself was probably a 4, and we might have returned, except for the strange feel for the evening. Again, we might have caught things on an off night; hopefully our food comments will be useful if you do decide to eat here! read more

This is not the place if you want an authentic Italian dinner as it caters to tourist palettes. The calamari were salty and served with a salty tasteless "tartar", although they were tender. They did not serve the calamari with the tentacles, which is a shame. The pizza was a bit oily and the dough a bit spongy but the sausage on top tasted good. The salad was like something you would get in a box at Safeway. The person we spoke to (who seemed like the owner) was a bit condescending. read more

Fantastico! Simply amazing! We went to see the leaning tower of Pisa then read about this restaurant on Yelp. We were not disappointed, we were absolutely delighted- and stuffed! We had a group of 10, were seated in a back room- outside seating is also available- there just wasn't a spot open for all of us. The owner Donato totally took care of us. We decided we didn't want to order off of the menu- to just eat whatever he wanted us to try. We shared everything family style. It was unbelievable! Loved everything! We started out with bruschetta, some with grilled veggies on top, olives, prosciutto, a dish with boiled wheat and tomatoes, peas, squash, and herbs, some yummy fried bread, Italian bread, mussels. Ok that was just our appetizers! Oh and we had the house wine in carafes and one friend had peroni beer. So- our main courses-amazing gnocchi- my husband didn't even like gnocchi but he loved theirs! A pasta dish with meat, mushrooms, and red sauce, a seafood pasta- delicious, then we had this incredible risotto cooked with garlic, onions, Chianti wine, and Brie. I think the risotto was my husband's favorite! It's pictured and looks purple. Then of course we had to sample desserts-panacotta with berries, creme brûlée, and tiramisu. My favorite was the tiramisu but they were all incredible. I had coffee, some had espresso to finish our amazing meal. Donato's wife was the chef- we were so impressed! His daughter was our server. Thanks Yelpers for a great recommendation! After the Square of Miracles. We were ready for dinner on a nice evening in Pisa. We found this place and was immediately seated by the owner. He was such a good natured guy we knew we were in for a treat. We started with a carpaccio salad (with arugula and Parmesan and truffle oil) and 2 mixed green salads. For dinner we had the gnocchi with clams and a pizza recommended by the owner. It was a cheese, porcini mushroom and sausage pizza but what really set it off was the thin crust made just right. Normally we don't have dessert, but we watched the couple next to us order a tiramisu, raves about it so much that they ordered a second one. Then another couple sat next to us and said they were just there for the tiramisu and coffee. Ok, I can take a hint. We ordered the tiramisu and 2 cappuccinos. Everything was excellent. All the while during dinner, the owner checked in on us, joked with my wife and at the end of the meal he called a taxi for us. Such a memorable experience and the food was awesome. The restaurant across the street looked so lonely as everyone was waiting for tables here. This place is a gem and clearly people are finding out. read more

My husband and I looked up the best reviewed place to eat after visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This restaurant was like a five minute walk from the tower. It took a few minutes for us to be seated but it looked like the place was a pretty busy with only two people serving. The owner (I'm assuming) was very kind but I could tell he was a little stressed from serving so many guests. He still managed to be very attentive to each table though. I ordered the seafood spaghetti and it was soooo flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised. My husband ordered the pasta with truffle oil and mushrooms and his was delicious as well. My review starts with the attitude of the staff. All the staff members were rude and ill-mannered towards us (perhaps got to do with looks). Though I tried to be very polite and showed my kind behaviour, they were still very insolent. 1. There are not many vegetarian choices. I have had better choices in other restaurants in Pisa. 2. The staff were not aware of vegetarian options themselves. We were suggested more than once to have non-vegetarian meals. 3. The soup was bland and lack the kick in the taste. Under average taste! 4. The truffle pasta was okay, definitely under-average. I can definitely say, I have had better portions and tasteful food. 5. Arrabiata pasta was average. Not something special, as was the expectation from the other reviews. 6. Margarita pizza was average. The sauce and dough/bread in this restaurant were just average! This place is a few minutes away from the tower and has great food. They have daily specials read by the waiter upon arrival. We just had a quick bite before hitting the road so we only had Primi. We ordered the Lasagna and the Tagliatelle in Cinghale (wild boar) Ragu and Porcini Mushrooms, both were delicious. The tagliatelle soaked up the Ragu perfectly and the Ragu itself was very savory and not gamey at all. The lasagna was classic, nice crunchy top noodle layer and what tasted like fresh pomodoro sauce. I will return with a larger appetite so I can try everything else on the menu. read more

The husband is personally advising customers on the specials, is taking orders, finishes the meal at the prep table, etc. He makes sure everything happens the way that it should. I didn't get a chance to meet his wife, but don't even think about leaving without having a homemade dessert by her. No store bought or frozen foods here. Just made from scratch pastas, sauces, and desserts. They can't claim to have caught the seafood, but it was excellently prepared and not overcooked to leave it tender and succulent. Based on the excellent Yelp reviews, our group made our way to this family-run spot after taking our tourist photos at the Leaning Tower. For my lunch, I chose their meat lasagna. I wanted something light yet filling, and this was the perfect dish for that! While some parts of the dish were hotter than others, it was still a high-quality and obviously fresh meal. We all split the tiramisu for dessert, which was also a great decision. By far, this was the best tiramisu I tried during my 10 days in Italy! Our server and the owner (her dad!) were both great. Saw this on yelp when I typed in restaurants in Pisa and found this place for a quick lunch. Got the seafood pasta. Exceptional as in the US this would cost $30 and was $15. My boyfriend got the pizza and added chicken. Since we have been to Italy no restaurant has helped in adjusting anything on their menu and they were the first people to do so. On our way out of Pisa, we found this little place along the walk back from the leaning tower and were lucky to catch it before it closed before dinner. When you walk in, it looks tiny but they lead you back to a larger dining area. For a group of 7, it fit us perfectly! The house bread wasn't some of the best I've had in Italy but the rest of the food was a dream. We started off with the pumpkin soup which was a perfect mixture of salty and sweet. I went with the bolognese pasta and my boyfriend got the meat ravioli with the cheese fondue on top. All of us were really happy with our food, the only thing that was just decent was the pizza. Based on the great reviews we stopped by here for dinner one night and are we ever glad we did. This place was, by far, the best restaurant we ate at during our month-long trip through Italy. We skipped finding a new restaurant for our second (and last) night in Pisa to come here. First off, the owner is out there ready to seat you and his personality is fantastic. He joked around and made us feel at home. He was very attentive which is something that seemed unusual for us based on our numerous other dining experiences in Italy. So the atmosphere was great but the food was phenomenal! Both nights we tried some of the specials and all of it was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. On the second night my boyfriend had a pasta with clams (I'm sorry I can't remember the name) and he couldn't believe how good it was and was glad to see they did not skimp on the amount of clams at all. Both nights we were there I had the prawn risotto with some type of orange sauce. Usually when we go out to eat my boyfriend finishes off my meal for me but I could not put my fork down here until my plate was clean. Needless to say it was exceptional! I also recommend either the panna cotta or tiramisu we tried for dessert because both were very good and the perfect way to top of such a great meal. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
