    The house wine was lovely

What a GREAT experience we had here tonight for dinner - every person we dealt with were super hospitable, accomodating, friendly, warm and professional. I had delicious roasted seasonal vegetables with a tasty steak served on a hot stone w truffles. Best meal , beautiful atmosphere, wonderful conversations with the owner, and much of his family who worked there. They didn't rush us in spite of it being the festival of light event in Luca. Service was excellent. Food was perfect. Ambiance casual, yet classy. You must make time to eat at this restaurant. We also had the house red wine which was very nice! Bathroom was clean- and literally everyone who worked there was upbeat, positive and hustling since it was so busy. The team work made for a smooth evening and wonderful meal. Our waiter was Claudio and he went above and beyond to accommodate and make sure all went well. Great restaurant, excellent food!!

BEWARE!!! We were in Lucca for a 4 night stay and one night decided to go out for a nice dinner. We were tired of pasta and pizza since this was a week and a half into our trip to Italy. Located right on Via Fulingo within the historic wall is this restaurant. It is definitely a beautiful setting with flowers, umbrellas and lots of ambiance. Even a handsome guy standing on the corner flashing a big smile...it all came together and drew us in. The special was Steak Florentine and we really wanted some beef. Still unclear to us which price we ordered as there are 2 steak florentines on the menu...one at $45 and one at $55 both for 2 persons. The steak is seared inside and then delivered to the table sizzling on a hot soapstone and cut into pieces. You then finish cooking it at your table to your desired temperature. It is a cool thing and we enjoyed it. They really pushed this "special" and now I understand why. We shared some potatoes and a salad and afterwards ordered tiramisu. When the check came they charged us $79 for the steak. You have to go inside to pay and I was pretty surprised at the cost. The cashier who acted like she knew little English called in a waiter who said the reason was they cut a larger steak for us than the one priced on the menu. This seems pretty shady to me since we didn't ask them to do this. I told them I ordered what I wanted. To them it didn't matter. After leaving the restaurant I noticed that they charged us $6 for the tiramisu which was only $5 on the menu. Do you see a trend here? I went back in and the cashier who earlier didn't seem to know English all of a sudden figured out what I was saying. She handed me a dollar euro to make up the difference. At this point it was the principle of the entire thing. It's sad that a restaurant would take advantage of tourists this way. Ok, it wasn't a huge sum of money but how many others is this happening to? I haven't read the other reviews here but maybe this is why they don't have great reviews. I'd skipped this one if I were you. We are all over Italy during our 2 week visit and no where else did this happen.

    Ribolita

The steak (according to my guy) was "8 out of 10", which is REALLY good. For me, as a vegetarian/vegan that has been eating the same 5 dishes in Tuscany for the last 3 weeks, the Ribollita - soup with green cabbage, kale (cavolo nero), carrots (carote), and white beans (fagiioli) - was amazing as was the side of grilled veggies (zucchini, carrots, and eggplant). I was very happy with the food. Would definitely go back if we visit Lucca again.

Pappardelle and boar ------ don't get it

We were planning on a different restaurant but, alas it was closed. We walked on And found this place- thinking it was tuck in the off alley - it look nice enough To start We were immediately up sold on mediocre wine , ugh The owner suggested our selections boasting fresh noodles and delicious steak. --I was craving pappardelle with boar - which claimed to be fresh noodles but well - the noodles were crunchy and the boar dry. The steak and potatoes was basic but we added salt n pepper and it was ok Overall This place should step it up because it's in a prime location. And could be making way more money - if their food was up to par with some of these smaller places ---And when we checked out he overcharged us for everything ! The menu said one price and he charged another !!!!! No class. The only thing good about this place was the waiter. He was at least nice but obviously bullied by his boss

The perfect place for lunch! My grandmother and I came here for lunch at 12:30 on St. Stephen's Day. The weather was rainy and they were very nice and accommodating by helping us out away our umbrellas and helping my grandmother get us the steps into the restaurant. We had a small lunch of a porcini mushroom soufflé and two bowls of ribollita. It was simply excellent. The soufflé was light and fluffy and the ribollita came to our table piping hot! The service was warm and excellent and the interior is cozy and rustic. The perfect place to fight off the rain and enjoy a bowl of hot soup. I would definitely recommend this place!

Great variety of Lucca favorites including Farro soup and the wild boar. Good portions. Good service. Good at accommodating kids.
