My husband and I stumbled upon this adorable town outside of Tuscany called Lucca and had an amazing dinner experience. Everything was divine! We started with vino of course from a long selection of local Tuscany wines. We then split a vegetable salad that was topped with fresh balsamic and olive oil, bread, phenomenal Cacaio e Pepe and a pizza. They cook the pizza on a wood fire grill so we had to try it! One of the servers kept telling other tables about "cake" so of course we inquired and settled on chocolate. It was delicious! Service was great and accommodating to English which was helpful. Would recommend! Dining room also promotes conversation with close tables. We met a sweet pair of ladies on a girls trip and chatted it up with them over some dessert and vino. Came here for a bit of an early dinner, though throughout the night it didn't get terribly busy. Perfect casual / local place. Don't expect fancy, just expect regular. The serving staff spoke little to no English, which was totally fine, they had English menus, so it all worked out. Pizza was amazing. Bar none. Woodfired oven, fresh toppings, perfectly cooked. on and on. You can get away with 1 each, but it's a bit of a stretch, you certainly don't NEED your own - you'll just want it, because it's so good! Trattoria feel and tasty pizza! We were lucky to make it here just before the lunchtime rush as the place got packed 10 minutes after! After inspecting the three pages listing pizza choices I decided to keep to the seafood trend and went for a "Corsara": thin crust with octopus and shrimp in an excellent marinara sauce. Place is good value for money (less than €10 for a pizza and caffe) and has tasty food: what more do you need? You can even choose to pay €1 less and go for a smaller pizza if you are feeling a bit health conscious. Bonus: the little treat that came with the coffee - chocolate covered coffee flavoured goodness. I need to find where to bulk buy these! read more

We went here due to Yelp rave reviews. The pizza was really good, the house red wine was tasty and the servers were attentive and helpful, with enough English to offset my terrible Italian. I could not give 5 stars because when my wife's calzone arrived it was hot on the outside but room temperature in the middle. Our waitress felt bad and took it to be replaced. The second calzone was steaming. It's top crust was rather scorched and blackened, but under that crust it tasted great. The wood-fired pizza oven looked to have a huge fire; maybe just right for pizza is a little too hot for calzones. We did not fuss about the second one. We finished off with great take out desserts. Try the apple pie - baked on site, sweet and tart with a great crust. read more

One appetizer big enough for two people, two glasses of wine, and two meals set me back 75 euros. However they will automatically bring a bottle of wine (which you have to pay) and open it along with bread unless you tell them not to! Now onto the review. If you ever have the opportunity to visit the city of Lucca "The City Of Walls" near Pisa than you must visit this place. Great atmosphere and peaceful. It was a great change from the tourists-catered menu you get from big cities like Rome and Florence. If you don't speak Italian then you can ask for an English menu. We ordered an appetizer for two people that consisted of cheese, three different types of meat with toasted bread. Each bread came with a different type of spread. Water of course is sold separately like any other restaurant in Italy. I ordered the "Tordelli Lucchesi 1895" an old recipe that consists of ravioli type pasta with meat inside. The outside is covered in a red sauce with seasoned ground beef. Very flavorful. The other dish was a roasted duck which was very tender and very delicious. This restaurant was so authentic, I can no longer eat in one of the many restaurants you see in Rome on every alley and street with patios outside. I highly recommended it read more

While visiting Lucca, we found this restaurant based on the great reviews on Yelp. We started with the insalata verde, pomodori e mozzarella and minestrone rome classic zuppa. After this we shared the bigoli cavolo noci pasta and funghi pizza. We enjoyed our meal with local wines. The service was kind and the setting was nice. We were only one of two tables that were visitors, the rest were locals (professionals in for a business lunch). We will definitely be back when we visit Lucca again. read more

Perfect great Italian food! We got pizza the first visits and it was great wood fired pizza. Then the second time we went for lunch and got pasta. I had the lemon linguini and it was amazing! The lemon chicken as a second was great too - crispy skin but moist. Also the ricotta cake was great! Can't say enough good things about this place. I will miss it! Oh and also the hours to have food food is actually 12-3 and then 7-not sure closing time. read more

This is a gem. Set in an old drug store, locals filled as many tables as tourists. We had the price fixed lunch with wine, pasta, main dish and coffee. Order any pasta with pesto if it's available. It's very good. The roast beef carpaccio was excellent, too. It's kid-friendly and the pizzas were very good. Service was excellent. read more

Super AMAZING pizza. There are maybe 100 different varieties and they are all really unique, it is so hard to choose. We kept walking by and the place is always full, which says a lot about a restaurant without an outdoor eating area. We just had lunch here today after consulting Yelp for suggestions. We were so pleased with our meal and the service. The rugala pizza was fresh from the wood burning oven .. and left us knowing we had just eaten the best pizza we have tasted in Italy over the past two weeks. This place was so fantastic, we went there for lunch and dinner on the same day. For lunch we had the pork shank with grilled vegetables and the tordelli lucchesi . The pork was seasoned perfectly and was so tender it was falling off the bone. We also had the Nutella torta, as we saw most people ordering it, so assumed it was not to be missed. It was absolutely amazing. We saw the pizza menu for dinner, so had to go back. The pizza was the best we have had in Italy so far. I had the Quattro Formaggio with cooked Prosciutto. Went here twice during a stay in Lucca. Once for lunch of delicious pasta and and salad. Extensive menu and prompt service. Came back for some takeout- pizza, salad, and wine. We decided to go to Lucca in Italy after seeing it as the start for one of the Top Gear challenges. It looked a brilliant medieval walled town and the missus had been banging on about going to Italy for ages. (she likes pasta , wine , and young men in tight black trousers ) The flight, hotel and car hire were booked online through Travel Republic and the drive from the airport was planned like a military operation meticulously in advance down to looking on Google to see photos of the route and road junctions so that it should only take about 30 minutes from Pisa to Lucca. Unfortunately all of the photos were during daytime and when we set off in the hire car feeling very tired at 9 in the evening from Pisa Airport, everything looked completely different. After about 2 and a half hours of driving backwards and forwards past the airport, and going 30 miles going South on the Autostrada instead of North I suddenly realised that Genovo on the signs was really Genoa which from my O'level geography 40 years ago was North of Pisa. So we were now heading in the right direction but things had become very fractious and frosty inside the little Fiat . Conversation had stopped because I felt that if I spoke one more time, I would be strangled with my own seatbelt. I had the feeling I would be asking if there was a spare room at the hotel for myself As we got close the Lucca we saw a fantastic fireworks display going on which as we learnt later was every year in celebration of something. Anyway, long story short, by the time we had booked in , it was about 12.30 and we were starving because I had decided we would not have any food on the Ryanair flight. (I'm a mean husband apparently) The hotel guy said we might still get a drink in the town so we walked in through the town walls. As we were walking along the Via Elise, we noticed the Drogherie cafe/bar still open so we went in. We were welcomed and we asked about food expecting the answer to be no but they said no problem. (contrast that with pubs in the UK where you get the answer Chefs gone home after 9 in the evening) We ordered Pizzas and drank a couple of beers while waiting. The Pizzas appeared quickly and they were much better than the ones you get in the UK. We finished off with some Italian Ice cream. The service was quick but they left us alone to get on with it. Prices were very good as well. During the next few days we went there a couple of times for meals (they have a restaurant section as well) and always for a drink and Expresso late at night. They also do very nice cakes and savouries. Although their English is not perfect, they are so friendly and helpful that I cannot recommend the place enough. The food is excellent and freshly cooked and authentic. Absolutely 5 stars A+++. Can't wait to go back sometime. By the way, the missus is talking to me again now, which is good. read more

Definitely the best Pizza in lucca. I tried 6 different pizza locations and this one is the clear winner. Expect to wait about 15 minutes for dinner time service. SO MANY OPTIONS it was hard to pick! Lots of beers and wines too. Do not miss this one! read more
