I'm of the thinking that most places you eat out are truly OK; with very little to complain about, value feels achieved and appetite is satisfied. Then, every now and then, you eat somewhere which massively exceeds expectations. Numero Ocho is that place.
We arrived without a reservation, requiring a table for 7 adults and were seated immediately. The service was prompt and friendly, and tables were well presented, as was the menu and drinks menu. All menu items were labelled against various allergies like nuts, gluten etc, dairy etc.
In fact, everything was so well presented, that once we'd ordered and received our drinks, we unanimously decided that Numero Ocho must, in some respects, managed or ran by British restaurateurs, backed up by the fact that they served UK labelled Coke bottles and they served Harrogate spring water.
Once the food arrived, we realised what a treat we were in for, as everything was just perfect. Food was brilliantly presented, portions were ample without being excessive or pretentious, and dishes had been crafted with the sort of imagination and flare that you'd normally expect from a Michelin star restaurant or similar.
If you're in Polença and you want to look beyond the paella/pizza restaurants, this place in the main square is highly recommended.
Dishes we ate that came with rave reviews:
- The blackened salmon.
- The vegetable curry (far far better than it sounds)
- The black spaghetti.
