I saw the comments from reviews in the past, and I'm pretty sure the issues are all cared for by now. Some people mentioned problems getting right-sized skates, or the ice being lumpy... but we had no complaints. Skates were just fine and the ice was perfect. I had some difficulty with booking the igloo on the website and couldn't get anyone to respond via email, but I tried rebooking again until the transaction completed correctly. We rented the igloo on a Friday afternoon for 90 minutes and we had so much fun! The Zamboni machine ran exactly per the ice scrape schedule shown on their website, which gave us time to hang out inside our clean, cozy, and heated igloo. We are not avid skaters, might go once per year, but we appreciate the staff and hope to see more people enjoying the skate ribbon. read more

I have two small children and this is always a fun stop for us when visiting Riverfront Park. It's an ice ribbon in the winter and a skate ribbon in the Spring - Fall. They rent ice skates, roller skates, scooters and helmets. You can bring your own gear and use the ribbon for free, but everyone is required to wear a helmet. They have food and drink on site. Concession fare so nothing spectacular. Grilled cheese, french fries, popcorn, corn dogs, frozen treats and the like alongside fountain drinks, juices and bottled teas / beers. One of the enormous pleasures of a dad with young children: you've just released them onto the totally enclosed ribbon. You sit down and crack the top on a cold one while they circle the track. Ha! The next 27 seconds are mine! The Radio Flyer and Carousel are easy walking distance, as is the iconic clock tower and the recently updated "hairnet." They also rent little go-cart looking pedal carts and often have other carnival style rides like Tilt-a-Whirl and big bungee bounce. The skyride is also here which I would advise against. It's an expensive, short ride that does offer some nice views in the middle portion for perhaps a full 6-7 minutes but turns around at this grim section under the Monroe St. Bridge. While you're swinging there, creeping around the turn, there's a few moments you have to wonder whether a burning car won't roll down the hill, trapping you in place while an army of screaming post-apocalyptic survivors beset your plastic bubble with cudgels and zip guns. Yes. I have seen Children of Men more times than is healthy. But also YES, this is a real possibility here and time will be the tell. Just don't say I didn't warn you. read more

Completely unorganized. Ice scrape schedule is changed without notice, the website doesn't reflect the changes. Sometimes you pay at skate counter, other times you wait to pay there and then they tell you to pay at other kiosk. There's no organization or customer service. I used to figure skate at the old outdoor rink in the park, but that rink is gone and instead they have the Ice Ribbon. I just went for the first time on a busy Friday (Dec 28th). This new rink is in a different area of the park than the old rink (it is just behind the Bloomsday running statues) and is easy to walk to from River Park Square. We parked in the River Park Square garage for $6.25. (It would be ideal if the rink would validate parking, but we forgot to check). The line for the skating admission was slow even at 11:30 am, but a food cashier arrived and you can buy admission in that line too. I brought my own figure skates and admission for one Adult is $7.40 with tax for 1-hour. It was raining, so conditions were not ideal, but I still enjoyed the skating for about 25 minutes until it started sleeting. (The sleet didn't seem to deter any of the other skaters.) The ribbon section is fun and a nice change from just skating in a circle. I wanted to do a few jumps and spins and they have a small circular section for that, but rink attendants do not allow you to hold out a leg (no camel spins, spirals, scratch spins), so it's a bit limiting for figure skaters. Most people are just recreational skaters and the rink and ribbon work well for skating forward. The music is enjoyable for all ages and makes the atmosphere fun. The inside area has lots of tables and chairs and a full snack bar that is much upgraded from the old rink's snack bar. This is definitely a great improvement for the general public, but figure skaters and fast hockey skaters will need to skate somewhere else. read more

I visited during the afternoon on Saturday December 9th, the second day after it's opening. The line for admission moved extremely slowly, from my time of arrival to when I was getting my rental skates, the wait ended up taking about 45 minutes. Halfway through the wait, a staff member announced that with the exception of season passes, the food cashiers are also equipped to take care of admission. Good to know for the future, just pick any cashier in the building to get your admission and rentals paid for! The staff members were incredibly patient given the long lines and large crowd. My largest complaint for this venue is that the payment process is incredibly inefficient. Credit card transactions require a chipped card insertion, an ID, a signature, and for every transaction you receive two receipts, or three if you are getting a rental. This slow process is exponentially magnified by the sheer number of people who are paying individually. I heard some teens talking about how the facility should invest in touch screen kiosks. I think that or the ability to pay online would really improve the overall experience. Lockers are available for 1 dollar (quarters only.) I didn't have enough coins but I was able to get some after another wait in line. A change machine would be nice, but it's not necessary as long as I plan ahead next time. If you don't need a locker, there are plenty of unlocked storage cubbies outside. I thought the cubbies were oddly placed, congesting a heavy foot traffic route between the outside wall of the cafeteria and the bulk of outdoor dining tables. If I were in charge, I'd move the storage cubbies west of the skate rental booth where there is fewer traffic. Seating indoor and outdoor seemed plentiful. I was never hard pressed to find a place to sit and lace up, or stop for a sip of my drinks. There are plenty of places to stand and observe or take pictures right next to the ribbon if you aren't skating. I was impressed by the outdoor heaters. Nestled between the dining tables there are several to keep you warm as you take a break. A big bonus for skaters is the remote firepit tucked away on the inside of the ribbon. It took me a few laps around the track to notice that I had access to the exclusive heat source. The ice ribbon was wonderful. I like how it snakes from left to right, it's gradual dips and climbs, it's well lit surfaces and the festive holiday decor. The atmosphere seemed very welcoming, with hit x-mas tunes, waving spectators, and lots of friends and families having a good time. I did not purchase any food so I will not be reviewing that aspect. I did however purchase a few drinks and again I was met with warm smiles from the patient staff. My hat goes off to the staff, nobody looked upset or overwhelmed by the large number of people, they simply did their job, bright eyed and bushy tailed, accurately and in a timely fashion. Speaking of being overwhelmed, the skate rental staff obviously was, as the pile of returned skates grew to the point of taking every inch of the return desk. The pair of skates I received came straight from that pile, as the rack of skates in my size was empty. That didn't stop the staff from providing excellent customer service, by first sanitizing the boots before distributing them to me. I appreciated that. The rental sizes seemed to run a bit large, and the thinner white colored lace on my left boot was difficult to tighten. A party member of mine was given boots with a broken lace, but they were able to quickly exchange them for another pair. If I make a habit of skating here, I will definitely be purchasing my own skates comfort's sake. I like my boot a little tighter than what I could achieve with the rentals. Overall I give the Ice Ribbon a 4/5, with a point deducted for long wait times. read more

I loved it. The ribbon is not large but it was really fun. It's expensive but I felt it was worth the cost as an ice ribbon is a different experience than an ice rink. It is fun skating around outside with snow falling, surrounded by riverfront park and river park square. I think maybe it wasn't crowded - it seemed like plenty of people but when we left, the line was considerably longer than when we arrived. 1 hour 15 minutes was our skate time. It was enough for me but if you want to skate more you should get a season pass or it will be very expensive. The railing is nice too for when you are getting warmed up. I actually felt the ribbon was safer than a standard rink, people could not skate as fast and it provides traffic control. I liked it a lot more than I expected to. read more

This could be so cool. Unfortunately it's so poorly managed and the equipment is terrible (ice skates) it ruins the fun. They couldn't even get us skates that were right. One of us got 2 rights. One of us got a pair with laces that wouldn't tie, had to take those back and we're given new laces the same size that wouldn't tie. They ran out of size... just the whole process is terrible- I wouldn't go again because of that. read more

Great concept but the rental equipment is horrible. The skates are old, worn down and broken. They don't maintain the ice well either. We had fun because how can you not, ice skating with your family. But I don't think we'd ever go back. read more

I liked the outside location but I didn't like the way the skate ribbon changes elevation ( one side you go down then it flattens out and then you have to skate back up on the other side ) I think it would be much safer and more user friendly if the whole ribbon was just one elevation. They do not maintain the ice very well so it is really grooved and choppy and the rental skates are not the best ( I recommend you bring your own) then you add in elevation change and it is more dangerous I also did not like the creepy guys that hang out around it because of the location of the ribbon people can walk up to it from the sidewalk lean over the skate wall stand there and smoke , the ribbon it not very wide and if you have little kids who hang onto the wall to skate you have to make sure they don't get burned by their cigarette. read more

The ice ribbon is great for outdoor entertainment in winter in Spokane. Located on the southwest edge of Riverfront Park, it's close to everything in downtown. Great for casual skaters, though figure and hockey skaters might find it a bit limiting. It only opened a month ago, so they are still improving the system of rentals and ticketing and it seems like it could use some improvements for efficiency. Good fun for out of town guests and a few times a year for us locals, though probably too pricey for many repeat visits. read more

Love the new Ice Ribbon, however my spouse bought us session passes instead of season passes and the cashier would not upgrade us for the price difference. Now that the Ribbon is closed for at least 3 weeks, I am wondering if the season pass holders will get any sort of compensation ie. free passes for next season?? read more

I would NOT recommend this to anyone that has any experience skating. The employees that skate around with people have little to no experience and get onto you for anything and everything while allowing people to stand still and take picture. Very disappointed. Waste of time and money. read more

Thanks for ruining my daughter's birthday. We called multiple times the day before and used the "reservation system" voicemail to make a reservation for ice skating the next day. All my daughter had wanted to do for her 7th birthday is go ice skating for the first time. Our group of 10 (most had travelled from Idaho) showed up for our reservation and were told they were out of skates and that there is "no reservation system in place" even though their website clearly says there is and we had followed the instructions in order to reserve skates. The employee just kept saying she was "confused" but there was nothing she could do. Horrible customer service and we won't be back. read more
