You should see local people enjoying , and also with people from the origin country. For instance, a Chinese restaurant here should attract both Chinese people and kiwis. But in Nippon, I see most of the guests are kiwi, not from Japan, or even from Asian countries. So here comes the confusion. A Japanese restaurant should be decent, quiet in a certain way, clean, cozy. It should leave some privacy space with the customers, not that loud and full of quirky music that piled up your stomach. Maybe people find it funny to get a drum hit once coming a new customer, however, I don't quite fancy this idea. Then the menu is a bit confusing, seats a bit narrow, the grilled beef tongue is way too salty, Ginger slices of roasted pork is too thick for chewing, and the whole presentation is not Japan delicate. Of all the dishes we ordered, perhaps the roast vegetable is the best. In our mind, Tokyo Bay in Takapuna is really a good example of what a proper Japanese restaurant should be. Sorry Nippon, I just don't feel you are the right cake for me.

Great stuff! Staff for the most part are helpful but rushed off their feet so may seem a little stressed. Ordered the Chinese sauce beef sizzling plate, egg yolk prawns, special tofu, vermicelli steamed oysters, and Gai Lan stir fried with garlic. Chinese sauce beef was beautiful soft and flavourful, lacked some veges in my opinion that you'd find in that standard sizzling plate but they really packed it generously with meat! Egg yolk prawns were good, prawns battered well and tasty. Special tofu, this is my preferred way of having tofu. Loved it! Silky with crispy outer, delicious! Oysters were over steams so rather tough, the vermicelli was dry. . Not the best I've had. . The gailan was really good, had the great al dente texture and wonderfully garlicky! All in all, the bill was $220, great food for the most part and I definitely will be back for more.

Lovely Authentic Shanghai Style Restaurant even though it is named Noodle House. You will enjoy…read moremore besides good noodle. All kinds of noodle, with soup or without, most of them are authentic taste. However I do enjoy the simple noodle with fried spring onion oil, a little bit soy sauce and that's it. People from Shanghai usually take it as a snack before dinner during summer time. Smelling the spring onion oil, in a certain way, is like special treat to your nose. I bet you will enjoy it. Then you can try the typical fried pork buns with the smoky bottom adding the flavor, juicy but tasty inside. Watch your tongue while eating it hot. Fried rice cake is another option if there is still space left for a gourmet treat. You can tell basically it is rice pudding just fried, still crispy, still full of crunch biting fun by your teeth. Go for the dish on the menu, I believe it is worth trying after 4-year successful opening. People know the right place to eat something local and good value. Just wish the decoration could be improved with some touch of the classic Shanghai.
